Kesha recalls 'terrifying' rise to stardom
The 38-year-old pop star enjoyed her first major success in 2009, when she featured on Flo Rida's hit single Right Round, and Kesha has now admitted that she struggled to adjust to her new reality.
The singer told People: "I went from being someone that sleeps in a sleeping bag at a punk house half of her life — everyone called it the Drunk Tank — and then a year and a half later I'm opening for Rihanna.
"It was terrifying, but it was so fun."
Kesha's family didn't have much money during her younger years, but she always found inspiration and hope in music.
The pop star - whose new album is called Period - said: "When I was little, we were on food stamps. I remember thinking, 'What makes people really happy when they're having a hard time? Happy songs do that.'"
Kesha has actually relied on music to help her through some of the dark times in her own life.
And the singer is conscious that she now has the chance to uplift people who are going through similarly difficult times.
She explained: "The interesting thing about being an artist is you can be the person going through hell and also the person that walks into the studio, like, 'I'm going to make sure you get through this. We're going to write a banger because it brings us joy.' It's almost like I'm picking myself up out of the sad moments I'm in.
"I feel like it's my responsibility as an artist and a songwriter to just be honest about my human experience."
Kesha has already been through lots of ups and downs in her career. However, the pop star no longer pays attention to her critics.
The Blah Blah Blah hitmaker said: "I honestly don't care what people think about me.
"I have nothing left to prove. I've already heard any horrible thing someone could hear about themselves: 'You're too fat, you're too old, you suck.' I'm immune to it, sadly. But maybe it's my superpower, because that is freedom. I'm just going to be myself. So party on, haters."

Orlando Bloom reportedly ‘unapologetically' flirting with women months before Katy Perry split
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom secretly parted ways earlier this year — and reports reveal that Bloom was acting very single in Miami just months ago. A source tells Page Six the Pirates of the Caribbean actor was in Miami, Florida, flirting with women on a recent trip. 'Orlando was definitely with girls in Miami,' says a source. 'He's been not subtly out and about,' according to our source, who called Bloom's flirting 'unapologetic.' And another source tells the outlet that the couple had parted ways long before that. The star was in Miami on April 9 to celebrate the launch of a new MSC cruise ship. We hear he was also there during the Miami Grand Prix, which ran May 2 to May 4, along with celebs like Timothée Chalamet and Tom Brady. Reps for Bloom and Perry issued the following statement to Page Six, confirming 'that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting. They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is – and always will be – raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.' On June 10, Page Six exclusively reported that the couple's relationship was done. 'It's over,' a source told Page Six. 'They are waiting 'til her tour is over before they split.' Perry is on her Lifetimes tour that began on April 23 and runs through December 7. But on June 24, TMZ reported that Bloom was heading to Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's Italian wedding as a single man. The actor and the Firework singer first met in 2016 at a Golden Globes after-party. They got engaged on Valentine's Day in 2019, and welcomed daughter Daisy Dove in August 2020. Sources previously told People that stress over the poor reception for Perry's new album, 143, had caused 'tension' in the relationship. 'Katy was deeply frustrated following the reception of her new album,' a source told the outlet. 'It made her very stressed. Orlando was understanding, but it did cause some tension.' On Wednesday, Bloom took to Instagram Stories to repost a carousel of quotes from Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist Carl Jung. 'Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate that seem important to oneself,' one quote read, which was originally shared via the Instagram account @SAPIENKIND. Another cryptic quote said, 'Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.' The pair previously split for a year in 2017. Page Six reported that at Bezos' wedding, single Bloom was having a great time. 'He was partying hard,' said a source, jokingly adding, 'and sweaty.'

Old Guard 2 director Victoria Mahoney hails Charlize Theron's dedication
Charlize Theron dedicated "1,000 percent of herself" to the action scenes in The Old Guard 2. The 49-year-old actress teamed up with Victoria Mahoney to make The Old Guard 2, and Victoria has praised Charlize for her whole-hearted approach to the project. The director told Deadline: "The thing about Charlize is, she comes hard, and she dedicates 1,000 percent of herself to every sequence, whether it's trauma or action, and it's visible. "People know that, for many years we've all seen it, and we've witnessed it. But there is something really electrifying to see it up close in person, and she doesn't leave anything on the field, as we say." Victoria hailed Charlize as the "engine on the Old Guard franchise". The director also suggested that the Oscar-winning actress actually helped to lift the performance levels of the film's cast and crew. She explained: "I worked in pre-production for months with our fight choreographer, Georgi Manchev to make certain that the action throughout the movie had some sense of emotion. "Obviously, and specifically the alley fight between Charlize's Andromache character and Veronica Van's Quynh character. It was vital that it had levels and layers and grounding in the heart, and this is why I mention this, I was excited when Georgi told me that Charlize was really moved the first time they auditioned the alley fight for her. Because, you know, it isn't easy to make audiences feel when two people are fighting. My belief is, if audiences don't feel anything in a fight scene, then what are we doing? "So, what happens when someone like Charlize comes hard like that to any role is that everyone on the ground, you know, crew rises up to meet her and help make her dreams come true. And I'm really proud of what we all accomplished, and, let me tell you, Charlize is the engine on the Old Guard franchise – without a doubt." Meanwhile, Henry Golding recently hailed Charlize as a "rare commodity in Hollywood". The 38-year-old actor stars alongside Charlize in The Old Guard 2, and Henry lavished praise on his co-star, observing that Charlize is one of the most professional people he's worked with. Speaking to People, Henry explained: "You know what it is? She leads from the front. She's like a rare commodity in Hollywood. "She is the female counterpart to a Tom Cruise. She's the producer. She's on set first thing in the morning, last at night, and she's creating what she wants and she's in there with the action. She's in there with the choreography." Henry believes that Charlize and Tom are unique figures in the movie business. He said: "She and Tom Cruise are some of the last of the movie stars."
