Central Queensland man charged over alleged image of children bound with duct tape

A Central Queensland man has been charged after allegedly duct-taping two children, pointing a gun at them, and sending the image to multiple people.
Detectives from Emerald Criminal Investigation Branch were investigating illegal weapons and illicit drugs on an Emerald property in May when they seized a mobile phone.
Forensic testing on the phone revealed an alleged photograph of two children, both three years old, bound with duct tape and a gun being pointed at them.
Police said the children were known to the man, but not related.
Police allege the photograph was sent to several other people.
Detectives were able to identify the children and make sure they were safe.
A 44-year-old Emerald man, who police allege was pointing the gun in the picture, was charged on July 17 with unlawful possession of category H firearms, dangerous conduct with weapon and two counts of deprivation of liberty.
He has been given strict bail conditions and will appear before the Emerald Magistrates Court on August 26.

Car flies into barn roof after veering into yard and hitting little boy in Germany

Several people have been injured by a car veering off a road, hitting a seven-year-old boy on a trampoline and flying into a barn roof on its side. The car first collided with a parked vehicle, broke through a hedge and drove into a garden where it hit the boy on Sunday in the town of Bohmte, in northwestern Germany. The car then went over uneven ground and it was apparently catapulted into the air and ended up crashing into the roof of a neighbouring barn about 3m off the ground. The boy was seriously injured, German Police said. The 42-year-old driver only suffered minor injuries, but his wife was seriously injured. Their two sons, aged 11 and 12, and a 13-year-old passenger were also in the car and suffered only minor injuries. Dozens of firefighters, as well as a dozen ambulances and two rescue helicopters were among the emergency services deployed in response. Images from the scene showed rescuers cutting through the roof, and wreckage of a playground that the car ran through. The car had to be removed from the roof with a crane and was carted away by police. An investigation is underway.

Louis Vuitton reveals major data breach impacting Australian customers

Louis Vuitton Australia has confirmed a data breach that exposed a wide range of customer information, including names, birthdates, contact details, purchase history and personal preferences. In an email sent to affected clients on Monday, the luxury brand revealed an 'unauthorised third party' had accessed its internal systems, taking personal information from a client database. According to the company, the data involved includes first and last names, gender, country, phone number, email address, postal address, date of birth, as well as purchase and preferences data. 'We regret to inform you that an unauthorised third party temporarily accessed our system and obtained some of your information,' the email stated. While no passwords, credit card details or bank information were compromised, Louis Vuitton has urged customers to be wary of suspicious messages or contact attempts. 'Given the nature of the data involved, we warmly recommend that you remain vigilant against any unsolicited communication or other suspicious correspondence, including emails, phone calls or text messages,' the company said. 'While we have no evidence that your data has been misused to date, phishing attempts, fraud attempts, or unauthorised use of your information may occur.' The breach was first detected on July 2, and Louis Vuitton claims it acted immediately to block the hacker's access and contain the incident. 'Technical measures were immediately taken to contain the incident after its occurrence, notably by blocking the unauthorised access,' the company wrote. 'Louis Vuitton teams are mobilised to cooperate with the competent authorities.' The company added that it had notified authorities and engaged cybersecurity experts to investigate. 'We would like to reassure you that no password nor financial information — such as credit card information, bank details, or other financial accounts, was contained in the database accessed,' the email said. The luxury fashion retailer stressed that the breach has been contained and apologised for the incident. 'We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this situation may cause you,' it said. Louis Vuitton Australia has been asked how many people are impacted and why it took 20 days to alert customers. It comes amid a wave of data breaches on large Australian companies, which have led experts to advocate for the right to force companies to remove personal details from databases. A move they argue would help combat the growing impact of mass data theft. More than 25 million customer accounts have been exposed in just three cyber attacks involving major companies Qantas, Optus and Medibank. University of Queensland cybersecurity expert Ryan Ko told ABC that Australians exposed to cybercrime risk are 'basically just a sitting duck' when their data is leaked.

Four teenagers arrested after knife attack left man's arm amputated

Police have arrested four teenagers after a knife attack in Melbourne's southwest, which left a man's arm needing to be amputated. Officers were called to the Altona Meadows Central Square Shopping Centre about 8pm on Saturday. It is alleged the victim was approached by a group of males and pushed to the ground, with one of the teens allegedly producing an edged weapon and striking the victim's forearm. The Herald Sun reports the 33-year-old male victim had the lower part of an arm amputated at Royal Melbourne Hospital on Sunday. He is in a serious but non-life-threatening condition. Police allege the teenager then fled the scene with the victim's phone. A 14-year-old boy from the Wyndham area has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing injury, robbery and unlawful assault. He has been remanded to appear before a children's court. Two 15-year-old boys from the Hobsons Bay area face the same charges and have been released on bail to appear in a children's court at a later date. A 14-year-old boy, also from the Hobsons Bay area, is expected to be charged on summons. Police are continuing to search for a fifth individual believed to be involved in the alleged incident. These latest attacks come amid a spate of knife crimes at Melbourne shopping centres. A major brawl between rival gangs at a northern suburbs shopping centre in May sparked a statewide machete ban, which has already stopped stores selling them but criminalises possessing one as of September 1. Just last Monday, a 44-year-old man was stabbed in the chest and neck outside the Moonee Ponds Central shopping centre. Police said the alleged offender had a history of mental health issues. Barely an hour earlier, a 37-year-old man allegedly pulled a knife at a nearby cafe. After these two Moonee Ponds incidents, Police Minister Anthony Carbines stressed that officers were recently given more power to stop and search people for weapons without a warrant. 'We've seen a record number of edged weapons seized in the past year and that's a demonstration of the work police are doing to disrupt and dismantle crime in the community,' Mr Carbines told reporters last week. In February, two men were stabbed outside a Bunnings in Broadmeadows, allegedly over a pair of stolen headphones.
