Sweets distributed on Telangana Formation Day suspected to be cause of food poisoning at IMH Erragadda
The Non-DC ward of the hospital, where the sweets were served, reported a sudden spike in complaints of nausea, vomiting, and uneasiness shortly after 6 p.m on June 2. As of Wednesday (June 4), 74 patients remained under observation at IMH, while 18 were shifted to Osmania General Hospital for further care. Hospital officials said they are in a stable condition.
On Wednesday morning, the hospital premises slowly returned to routine as doctors resumed duties and patients' attendants waited anxiously. Meanwhile, senior health officials, including Director of Medical Education A. Narendra Kumar and Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Commissioner Ajaya Kumar, visited the hospital for a detailed review and held a brief meeting with hospital superintendent Anitha Rayirala before inspecting the affected ward.
Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha, who arrived at IMH to take stock of the situation, told reporters that preliminary findings suggest the sweets distributed on the occasion could be the cause. 'Initial reports indicate that the water supply is largely safe. There is a strong possibility that this was a case of food poisoning due to the sweets. We have terminated the diet contractor's services as a precautionary measure,' he said.
Samples of the food and water have been collected for laboratory analysis. An internal inquiry is underway, and a detailed report is expected in the coming days, the minister said.

The Minister made the remarks after a darshan of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala. Mr Kumar questioned the very presence of individuals from other faiths within an institution dedicated to Hindu deities and traditions. "How can an organization like TTD, which upholds the sanctity of Hindu dharma, allow over 1,000 non-Hindus to be on its payroll?" he asked, emphasising the need to preserve the sanctity and spiritual purity of the temple. The BJP leader further demanded stringent action, urging the TTD to immediately identify and remove all non-Hindu employees. He stressed that the employment of non-Hindus not only violates the spiritual ethos of the temple but also potentially hurts the sentiments of millions of Hindu devotees who visit Tirumala from across the globe. "Does anyone provide employment for Hindus at mosques and churches?" Mr Kumar asked. The Minister also called for a comprehensive inquiry into how these appointments were made, suggesting a potential lapse in recruitment policies or deliberate circumvention of existing regulations. This is not the first time concerns have been raised about the employment of non-Hindus within TTD. Previous instances have also drawn criticism, with proponents arguing that only devout Hindus should be employed in a religious institution of such significance. The TTD administration is yet to issue an official response to Bandi Sanjay's specific claims regarding the number of non-Hindu employees. However, the allegations are likely to put pressure on the board to conduct an internal review and provide clarity on the matter. He highlighted a recent case where a TTD AEO, A Rajasekhar, was suspended after being found regularly worshipping at a local church, questioning why action is only taken after such exposures. Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, former Chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), has strongly reacted to Bandi Sanjay's comments regarding the employment of non-Hindus within the TTD. Mr Reddy has challenged Bandi Sanjay to provide evidence for his claim of over 1,000 non-Hindu employees. He pointed out that the current TTD board had recently stated there were only 22 non-Hindu employees. Bhumana Karunakar Reddy expressed suspicion that there might be a conspiracy behind Bandi Sanjay's remarks to undermine the sanctity of the Tirumala Srivari temple. He demanded an explanation from the "alliance government" regarding Bandi Sanjay's statements. The TTD rules ( No. 1060, read with No. 1372 in 2007) mandate that only individuals professing the Hindu religion are eligible for recruitment into TTD service, and employees must adhere to Hindu dharma and traditions. The TTD board has also taken steps to transfer non-Hindu employees to other Andhra Pradesh government departments or offer them voluntary retirement schemes.

Karnataka school association urges government to retain three-language policy to protect kids' rights
Bengaluru: The Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools of Karnataka (KAMS) has appealed to the govt to uphold the three-language policy and implement key reforms to the SSLC language assessment system in the best interest of students across the state. The association said it would approach the court in case the state plans to change it to a two-language formula. It may be recalled that following developments in Maharashtra, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah said he also approves of two-language formula. The association said, "Political resistance to the three-language policy in Karnataka disproportionately affects state board students. Students under CBSE and ICSE enjoy access to three languages, often including their mother tongue or a foreign language. The state cannot impose a medium of instruction or deny parental rights regarding language education. Any denial of the third language also adversely affects non-Kannada speakers and linguistic minorities. The Karnataka School Education and Assessment Board has already submitted a proposal to the state govt to make the assessment in line with CBSE. The proposal recommends the inclusion of internal marks, reduction of pass mark to 33 instead of 35, and evaluating the first language out of 100 instead of 125 marks. "Don't disturb the three-language policy; make it a choice and flexible with freedom of choice, rather than enforcing or eliminating specific languages. These measures are essential for protecting students' rights, promoting multilingualism, and enabling Karnataka's children to thrive in a national and global context," said D Shashi Kumar, secretary of the association at a press conference Saturday.

10 families ostracised for giving up cattle grazing, probe ordered
Jamshedpur: Ten families in a village in Chakradharpur block of West Singhbhum district have allegedly been ostracized by their neighbours for migrating from their traditional profession of grazing cattle to agrarian work in the hopes of better earnings. West Singhbhum deputy commissioner (DC) Chandan Kumar on Friday said an investigation has been launched while the district officials have been asked to take legal action against Bagun Jamuda, the head of Chirubeda village under Gurulkera panchayat, who issued the decree to the other residents of the village. The bizarre incident occurred nearly 10 days ago, but the matter came to light after 40 members of the 10 families, who were facing social boycott, met DC in Chaibasa on Friday and sought justice. The families claimed that Munda, enraged with their decision to switch to agrarian work, ordered grocery store owners to not sell food items and other items of daily need to them. "He also imposed a ban on inviting us to social gatherings and asked the priests not to visit our house to perform rituals," they told Kumar. When three of the shepherd families did not obey the diktat, Munda imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on them. DC said Munda was removed from his post and officials were asked to take action against him.
