WEF to set up Energy, Cybersecurity Centre in Andhra Pradesh

VIJAYAWADA: In a significant step towards positioning Andhra Pradesh as a global hub for innovation and sustainable development, the State government has partnered with the World Economic Forum to set up the WEF - Andhra Pradesh Centre for Energy and Cyber Resilience in Amaravati.
This initiative is a part of the government's broader 'Swarnandhra Vision 2047'.
The State government on Thursday issued an which outlines the establishment of this pioneering Centre under the WEF's global Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) Network.
It will be India's first thematic centre on energy transition and green industries, in collaboration with WEF's Centre for Energy and Materials (CENMAT) and AI-led digital transformation and Cybersecurity, in collaboration with WEF's Centre for Cybersecurity. The initiative follows meetings with WEF at Davos and would position Amaravati as India's leading centre on green energy, sustainability and cybersecurity.
The project is being spearheaded by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, with the goal of boosting Andhra Pradesh's international presence and attracting investments in clean energy, AI, and digital infrastructure.
The key objectives of the Centre are to raise Andhra Pradesh's global profile and build international partnerships, support the growth of green industries and improve cybersecurity, implement pilot projects in clean energy, smart grids, and use of AI in areas like farming and governance, train people in cybersecurity and new technologies, and connect the State with global platforms like the WEF's Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos.
The state government has sanctioned Rs 36 crore for a period of three years to support the Centre's activities. The Centre will be governed by a high-level committee chaired by the HRD & IT Minister Nara Lokesh, a release said.

QIP March: SBI kicks off Rs 25,000 crore share sale to boost capital base

Mumbai: State Bank of India (SBI) began its ₹25,000-crore share sale to institutional investors at the end of trading hours on Wednesday in the largest equity capital raise by a domestic entity - and the first in eight years by the most-valued government asset. ADVERTISEMENT Bidding for the share sale would continue until the early hours on Thursday. The indicative offer price is between ₹806.75 and ₹831.70 a share, bankers told ET. The indicative price is the implied discount - up to 3% in this case - to the share's closing price of ₹831.7 on the NSE on Wednesday. If the bank raises the entire ₹25,000 crore, it will be the largest share sale after Coal India's ₹22,560-crore qualified institutional placement (QIP) to select bulge bracket buyers in 2015. The bank's board approved the placement on Wednesday. This is the third QIP by SBI. The previous round was concluded in 2017, raising ₹15,000 crore. While state-run Life Insurance Corp (LIC) is expected to bid for a sizeable chunk, financial institutions, large domestic mutual funds and large international investors are also expected to participate, said people aware of the development. In the previous QIP, LIC had bought nearly 40% of the stake on offer. Reduced Government Stake ADVERTISEMENT In 2017, SBI's QIP was priced at 287.25 has a 9.3% stake in the bank as of March 31, and is the largest shareholder after the central government. North Block owns 56.9%, as per the bank's annual report. ADVERTISEMENT After the QIP, the government's holding is expected to reduce to around 55%, according to analysts. SBI's QIP is expected to boost the bank's common equity tier I (CET-1) ratio by around 60 basis basis point is a hundredth of a percentage point. ADVERTISEMENT The objective of the capital raise is to augment CET-1 or core equity capital, rather than raise funds for growth, SBI chairman CS Setty had said in a post-earnings meet in May. He had said the current capital base can support credit growth of around Rs 8 lakh crore. "Even without raising additional capital, the growth will not be impacted," Setty had said. The bank's CET-1 ratio stood at 10.81% at the end of March, higher than the minimum regulatory requirement, while overall capital adequacy ratio (CAR) was at 14.25%. But it is lower compared with peers. Kotak Mahindra Capital Co, ICICI Securities, HSBC Securities and Capital Markets (India), Citigroup Global Markets India, Morgan Stanley India Co and SBI Capital Markets are bankers to the QIP. ADVERTISEMENT Separately, SBI's board approved raising up to Rs 20,000 crore through issuance of bonds compliant with Basel III capital norms. The approval is to raise funds via tier II and additional tier I bonds to domestic investors during the current financial year, according to the bank's exchange filing. SBI had raised a total of Rs 15,000 crore through tier II bonds and Rs 5,000 crore through additional tier I bonds in the previous financial year. Tier II bonds were raised in two tranches at 7.42% and 7.33%, respectively. Additional tier I bonds were priced at 7.98% in October last year.

Fraudsters pose as SBI staffers, cheat man of Rs 42 lakh in investment scam

Noida: A man filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime police, alleging that he was cheated of more than Rs 40 lakh in a fake stock market investment scheme run through WhatsApp by persons posing as officials from SBI Securities. In his FIR, the complainant named Suraj Gupta and Richard Mendonka as the two people behind the scam. According to the complaint, he first received a message on May 18 that SBI Securities was launching a closed WhatsApp group for block trading and IPO applications at discounted rates, with "promised daily profits of 5–10%". The message instructed him to contact a WhatsApp number for further details. After initiating contact, he was told that the trading plan was part of a "premium profit plan" only for selected people. The representatives allegedly claimed that the group was approved by SEBI for trading and said there would be no upfront charges; only a 0.03% commission per transaction. MC doesn't plan to spend a rupee on parking pass rollout in Chandigarh

1 2 Chandigarh: In a move aimed at simplifying parking and boosting revenue without spending a rupee, the Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC) has fast-tracked a proposal to roll out monthly parking pass system for all paid parking lots across the city. The plan? Rs 500 for four-wheelers and Rs 250 for two-wheelers — one pass, unlimited access. To make this happen, the MC plans to partner with a bank that will handle the tech side of things — from payment gateways to app development — ensuring a smooth, tamper-proof system. Senior MC officials, including the municipal commissioner and representatives from the parking and engineering wings, recently met with bank officials to fine-tune the proposal. The plan includes issuing stickers to pass holders, allowing them to enter parking lots without the hassle of collecting slips. Non-pass users will continue with the traditional ticketing system. The initiative is expected to be discussed and approved in the upcoming General House meeting later this month before being rolled out citywide. A senior MC official said, "We're offering a citywide pass at a very reasonable rate. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like あなたの家の適正価格を知ろう HOME4U 詳細 Undo A survey is already underway, and about 70% of respondents have shown interest. We're optimistic about the response." The passes will be available both online and at e-Sampark centres for public convenience. The selected bank will also develop a mobile app to streamline the process and prevent misuse. The Numbers Behind the Move According to MC estimates, around 5 lakh four-wheelers and 1 lakh two-wheelers use paid parking lots in Chandigarh every month. Even if just 50,000 commuters opt for the new pass, the MC could generate Rs 30 crore annually — a significant jump from the current monthly profit of Rs 50 lakh. Currently, the MC sells around 5,000 passes a month, each valid for just one parking lot at ₹420. The new system promises not just convenience for commuters but a major revenue boost for the city — all without additional expenditure.
