BCs benefited largely in Alliance government rule, says APIWA Board Chairman
The Backward Castes (BCs) were mostly benefited during the last one year of Alliance government regime, said Andhra Pradesh Inland Waterways Authority Board (APIWA) Chairman Dr Z. Shivaprasad.
Addressing a press conference organised on 'Development of BCs during the coalition rule in the year' at Telugu Desam Party (TDP) office in Nellore on Wednesday, Dr. Shivaprasad said, 'The Alliance government is shaping the BC Protection Act to create fear and prevent attacks on the BCs. It has allocated ₹47,457 crore for the development of BCs in the 2025-26 State budget. Among nominated posts, Legislative Assembly seats and local bodies, the BCs were given the maximum posts.'
He said, 'Assembly Speaker Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu, Union Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, TDP President Palla Srinivasa Rao, eight ministers in the State cabinet, and 38 legislators were from the BC communities only. During 2014-19, the TDP government had spent ₹3,700 crore for BC Corporation. Today, the Alliance government has allocated large amount of funds.'
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government had stopped funds for BC Corporation and cancelled subsidised loans. It had only considered the BCs as vote bank, he alleged.
He said that the TDP government had earlier increased BC reservations in local bodies from 20% to 34%, and now passed a resolution in the Legislative Assembly to implement 33% reservation for the BCs.
Earlier, the TDP government had provided state-of-the-art equipment to 4.2 lakh poor BCs dependent on handicrafts through the Adarana scheme.
Now, the Alliance government has allocated 10% of the liquor shops for Geeta workers. A special corporation has also been formed for the welfare of goldsmiths.
It has repealed GO 217, which will affect the employment of 20 lakh fishermen. It is credited with increasing the compensation for hunting bans at ₹20,000 under the 'Matsyakarula Sevalo' scheme and salaries of Nayi Brahmins in temples to ₹25,000. It has abolished the GST on the handloom sector. It is also providing free electricity to power looms.

Municipal engineering workers' protest for wage hike enters fourth day
The indefinite strike by the municipal engineering employees working in various departments entered fourth day on June 28. The employees are demanding a wage hike and implementation of welfare schemes. Municipal engineering workers engaged in parks, town planning, street lighting, and computer operators and vehicle depot mechanics participated in the strike, organised by the Municipal Corporation Workers and Employees Union, affiliated to Centre of Indian Trade Unions(CITU), at Dharna Chowk in Vijayawada on June 28 (Saturday). Addressing the protesting workers, CPI (M) leader Ch. Babu Rao criticised the TDP-led NDA government in the State for failing to address the concerns of municipal workers. 'The prices of essential goods, electricity charges and taxes are increasing, but wages for these employees remains the same,' Mr. Babu Rao said. He demanded to know how many times the salaries of MLAs and Ministers were increased. 'Everyone wants drinking water, street lights and likes to see the greenery enhanced in parks. But the government does not care about those who ensure that these facilities are being provided,' Mr. Babu Rao said, adding that to the government, the plants in the park seem to be more important than the lives of these workers who take care of them. The protesting employees also alleged that many government welfare schemes remained elusive to them. They are not eligible for schemes such as Thalliki Vandanam, social pension, pension for differently abled, they said while adding that they do not have exemption from electricity charges too. The Union president Donepudi Kasinath said that the government should follow Government Order 36, issued during the previous regime, and increase the employees' honorarium to anywhere between ₹21,000 and ₹24,000 per month.

YSRCP's allegations are baseless: TDP
TDP Anantapur district president Venkatasivudu Yadav on Saturday (June 28) said YSRCP leaders are levelling baseless allegations against the NDA government because they are unable to digest the fact that poll promises are being fulfilled. Speaking to media persons here, Mr. Venkatasivudu Yadav said the YSRCP leaders are trying to divert the attention of the people from the scams and scandals of the previous government that are coming to light in the past one year. 'The YSRCP leaders should stop their propaganda against the government,' he said. Listing the various welfare programmes by the government, he said the government is extending 'Talliki Vandanam' to every child of the eligible beneficiary families and will implement the 'Annadata Sukhibhava' from July. He said the government increased the social security pensions and had also issued DSC notification to fill 16,347 vacancies. 'The government will soon launch the free bus ride to women scheme also,' he said. Mr. Venkatasivudu said the government repaired 20,000 km of roads at ₹1,200 crore since coming to power with an aim to make the State pothole free. On the development front, the government brought ₹4.95 lakh crore investments to the State, providing jobs to 4.50 lakh people.

Puducherry: Resignation of three nominated BJP MLAs accepted by Speaker
The Puducherry Assembly Secretariat has issued a notification accepting the resignation of K. Venkatesan, V.P. Ramalingam, and R.B. Ashok Babu from the Legislative Assembly as nominated legislators. The three members belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were appointed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs immediately after the All India N.R. Congress-BJP alliance won the 2021 Assembly polls in the Union Territory. The legislators had submitted their resignation letters to Speaker R. Selvam on the 'instructions' of the BJP high command on Friday (June 27, 2025) evening, sources in the party said. The MHA would soon issue an order appointing three new members as nominated legislators. The party is likely to give representation to a Dalit member as well as a member from the Karaikal region, the sources said. 'Now that the Speaker has accepted the resignation of the three members, the process to appoint new members has also started. The order is expected to come anytime, and the members will be sworn in early next week,' said a BJP leader. Meanwhile, the party leadership has been in huddle since Friday evening to elect a new president and also find a replacement for A.K. Sai J. Saravanan Kumar, who had also submitted his resignation from the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy-led Cabinet on Friday. Mr. Rangasamy, the founder-leader of the AINRC, had told the media on Friday evening, after consulting Lt. Governor K. Kailashnathan, that the resignation of Mr. Kumar was accepted by the government. Mr. Kumar is among the leaders considered for the post of president of the BJP in the UT, a party source said, adding that the nomination process for electing the party's Puducherry unit chief will be carried out on Sunday (June 29, 2025). Protest held The supporters of Mr. Kumar, meanwhile, staged a demonstration on Friday night in the town, protesting the decision of BJP to replace him. Mr. Kumar was the only leader belonging to the Dalit community in the first National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Puducherry. The supporters raised slogans demanding that Mr. Kumar be made the president of the BJP's Puducherry unit. The protesters later dispersed after the intervention of close associates of the former Minister.
