BTN analyst shares positive remarks on Michigan State hoops entering next season
Former Purdue Boilermaker and current Big Ten Network analyst Rapheal Davis shared some positive remarks on the Spartans for next season this week. Davis took to social media platform X to note he's expecting big things from Coen Carr, Jeremy Fears Jr. and Carson Cooper this upcoming season.
Here's the exact post on X from Davis:
This is the first time this offseason that Davis has provided positive insight on the Spartans from his point of view. He recently was praising the growth he was hearing for Carr and has also previously said he's expecting a breakout season for Fears.
Michigan State is coming off a Big Ten championship winning season, where they also reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans, though, lost a number of key contributors off last year's team, including Jaden Akins, Jase Richardson and Tre Holloman.
It's clear Davis is high on Michigan State entering next season and would assume he'd consider them a solid value pick to make some noise in the Big Ten. It'll be interesting to see if Carr, Fears and Cooper can live up to this hype this season, and truly elevate their game to lead the Spartans to another strong year on the hardwood.

Spartans target, 3-star DL Nehemiah Kolone commits to BYU over MSU, Oklahoma State
A Michigan State defensive lineman target has announced his commitment to a Big 12 school instead of the Spartans. Nehemiah Kolone of Stillwater, Okla. announced his commitment to the BYU Cougars on Monday evening. Kolone committed to the Cougars over his other two finalists of Michigan State and Oklahoma State. Kolone is a three-star defensive lineman with a recruiting rating of 86.93 in the 247Sports composite system. He is ranked as the No. 104 defensive lineman and No. 947 overall prospect in the 2026 class. Michigan State was once considered the favorite for Kolone's commitment but he most recently visited with BYU in late June and one can assume that visit went well. This commitment from Kolone to the Cougars could also be telling of another potential defensive lineman prospect being in the mix for the Spartans since they are still in need of one more commit at that position. So we will need to monitor the Spartans on the recruiting trail to see if someone else could be joining their class based on the commitment from Kolone to BYU on Monday. Spartans listed as one of favorites for college hockey 2026 national championship
The winners of the Gavin McKenna sweepstakes are the betting favorites to win next year's college hockey national championship. But Michigan State is right behind the Nittany Lions. With the news that Penn State is expected to land the commitment from superstar prospect McKenna, the Nittany Lions have become the favorites at Draft Kings to win the 2026 national championship. But Michigan State is right behind with Boston University as the next best odds. Penn State is posted at +500, Michigan State and Boston University are posted at +800, Michigan is next at +900, and then Minnesota, Denver and Boston College follow that at +1200. Per College Puck NXT, these are the first odds posted for the 2026 college hockey national championship. So it's clear that the McKenna news has pushed the Nittany Lions to the top of the betting board. This time last week, Michigan State would have probably been the listed favorite and had they landed McKenna, they would have been the odds on favorites by a lot. Still, it's clear the betting professionals expect a lot out of the Spartans next year and it should be another strong season on the ice for the Spartans if they live up to their potential. Michigan-Michigan State rivalry ranked among best in all of college football
The annual battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy has been ranked among best rivalries in all of college football Everyone has their opinions on the top rivalries in college football so where would you rank the battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy? Well, one news service considered it one of the best in all of the sport. The Athletic has released its top 25 rivalries in college football, with the annual battle between Michigan and Michigan State cracking the list. At the top of the rankings were some of the obvious choices of Michigan-Ohio State, Alabama-Auburn, Oklahoma-Texas and Army-Navy, and a little bit further down the list was Michigan-Michigan State at No. 16 in the rankings. Michigan-Michigan State came in one spot behind the recently renewed rivalry of Texas-Texas A&M and one spot ahead of Auburn-Georgia. It was also two spots ahead of Michigan-Notre Dame and ranked as the No. 5 inter-Big Ten rivalry. Check out the complete rankings in the social media post below: In my opinion (which is of course a little bias), I'd consider Michigan-Michigan State to be higher on this list. It certainly has more hate and passion to it then USC-UCLA and Nebraska-Oklahoma -- which doesn't even get played very often anymore. But still, this does pay solid respect to the annual game that carries a ton of magnitude in the state of Michigan and hopefully on the national level again soon enough.
