Summary
London'sD'Stassi Artis currently hostingMiss Subway NYC,a landmark solo exhibition by New York graffiti legendLady Pink. Staged in the heart of Shoreditch, the artist transforms the gallery into a fully tagged subway station, bringing the raw energy of the 1980s underground across the pond.
Born in Ecuador and raised in Queens, the artist began tagging trains at 15. By 17, she was featured in the featured in the landmark 1981New York/ New Waveexhibition at MoMA PS1 situated amongst the likes of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. Even as a teenager, she made herself clear: Lady Pink was a force to be reckoned with.
More than a tribute to 1980s graffiti culture, her work serves as a love letter to the subway's many characters – the saxophonists, the elderly, the homeless – the New Yorkers that called the subway their home. 'Those were the people you made it for,' she said. 'The straphangers.'
Running through late September, the exhibition features original works and new commissions, alongside archival material and personal ephemera from the artist's early years. 'Lady Pink is a true icon,' say D'Stassi Art co-founders Michael Howes and Edward Sanders. 'With this immersive NYC subway experience, we want to bring audiences into Lady Pink's world and show how her legacy continues to influence the culture today.'

'Ultimate,' 'A Little Bit Alexis' and 13 Other Fake Songs We Still Can't Get Out of Our Heads

These tunes have surpassed only existing within the worlds of their shows and movies and gone on to become cultural phenomenons all on their own No matter how many years pass, these songs have made their mark on our collective consciousness, seemingly for good. And no, it doesn't matter that they are not "real" songs and only existed within the confines of their respective television show or movie. In fact, that only adds to the magic. From Annie Murphy's showstopping performance of "A Little Bit Alexis" on Schitt's Creek to Lindsay Lohan rocking out to "Ultimate" in Freaky Friday, read on to see our top 15 favorite "fake" songs that we can't stop singing to this day. "Ultimate" - Freaky Friday No one was cooler than Lindsay Lohan in 2003 and performing "Ultimate" at the end of Freaky Friday with her her fictional band Pink Slip only helped solidify her status as queen of the early-aughts. While we're not sure what's on their set list these days, Pink Slip's return in the upcoming Freakier Friday movie is sure to provide at least one more anthem. "A Little Bit Alexis" - Schitt's Creek Throughout its six season run, Schitt's Creek provided countless laughs as audiences watched the outrageously hilarious family dynamics play out between David, Alexis, Moira and Johnny Rose. One of the most memorable moments, though, came during season 5 when Alexis, played by Annie Murphy, auditioned for the town's production of Cabaret with a live rendition of "A Little Bit Alexis," which was "the title track off of my critically reviewed, limited reality series." What followed is an incredible 30 seconds replete with choreography we've all tried to replicate. Though the show has been off the air for more than five years, this song will surely live on for decades to come. (And don't worry — there's a full 3:26 version of the song, written by Murphy herself, if you need a longer dance break.) "Smelly Cat" — Friends Lisa Kudrow's Phoebe Buffay belted out several perfectly quirky tunes throughout Friends' 10 seasons. Whether it was inside cozy Central Perk or outside on the streets of New York City, Phoebe had a song for everything. While many were eternally catchy, none have stood the test of time quite like "Smelly Cat." "The Bone Dance" - Hannah Montana How many of us used Miley Stewart's "The Bone Dance" ourselves when trying to remember the names of all the bones? "When I milk the cow, on Uncle Earl's farm, I use the Ulna bone, that is in my arm." With lyrics like that, along with her matching choreography, it was an instant classic and very useful! "Let's Go to the Mall" - How I Met Your Mother When we meet Robin on How I Met Your Mother, it's been years since her career as Canadian pop star Robin Sparkles. But it was only a matter of time before her friends found out her dark secret and introduced us to the instant classic "Let's Go to the Mall." Go ahead and rock your body 'til Canada Day. "On a Roll" - Black Mirror Miley Cyrus was back belting out made-for-TV earworm when she played Ashley O on Black Mirror with the song "On a Roll." Rocking a purple bob wig, the accompanying music video is instantly iconic "Boyz 'N Motion" - That's So Raven This song from the fictional band of the same name made me so very sad that they only existed within the realm of the That's So Raven universe. It's been 20 years since the season 3 episode premiered and I can still see those three boys dancing together to the catchy tune like it aired yesterday. "Feeling the Love" - That's So Raven (Again!) Another That's So Raven hit came from Raven's little brother and his band (which featured David Henrie before he broke out on Wizards of Waverly Place). The song might have been short but its impact is two decades strong. "Crazy, Funky, Junky Hat" - Wizards of Waverly Place As best friends do, Alex and Harper on Wizards of Waverly Place had their fair share of inside jokes and silly moments, one of which is the famous "Crazy, Funky, Junky Hat" song — shout out Keira Knightly! Years later Selena Gomez and Jennifer Stone took a trip back in time and revisited the song in a TikTok video where the two did their old choreography, though this time, with a drink in hand. "In the Moonlight (Do Me)' - Modern Family Though Haley might have been moved by her boyfriend Dylan's love song and its accompanying video, her family had a bit of a different reaction — perhaps it was due to his lyrics "I just want to do you/ Do you want to do me/ Underneath the moonlight?" The song might have gotten Haley grounded but Dylan and his eyeliner have been stuck in our heads ever since. "The Legend of the Rent" - School of Rock One of Jack Black's best roles came more than 20 years ago in 2003's School of Rock, in which the comedian plays a guitarist who pretends to be a substitute teacher for reasons. Rather than teach math or english, Dewey Finn opts to teach his students music and crucial life lessons, and during one of his lessons performs an impromptu performance of "Legend of the Rent." inspired by his recent eviction from his apartment and band. "Supernova Girl" - Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century The year is 1999 and Raven-Symoné and Kirsten Storms are bopping along as they're serenaded by Proto Zoa singing "Supernova Girl." There's spiky bleach blonde hair, a silver leather jacket and they're all in outer space. It's a pretty unforgettable moment in Disney Channel Original Movie history. "Squirrels in My Pants" - 'Phineas and Ferb' "There's 104 days of summer vacation and school comes along just to end it....," you know the rest. In addition to animated series' theme song, Phineas and Ferb was the source of many fun tunes. They include "S.I.M.P. Squirrels in my Pants" about, you guessed it, the experience of having squirrels crawling around your pants. "Pop Goes My Heart" - Music and Lyrics Movie openings don't get much better than 2007's Music and Lyrics which sees Hugh Grant decked out in full '80s glory singing the song "Pop Goes My Heart." There's long hair, dark shades and killer dance moves. "Shiny Teeth" - Fairly Odd Parents With his pearly whites secured back in his mouth, Chip Skylark is ready to film a music video for the aptly titled "Shiny Teeth" about his teeth that "twinkle just like the stars in the space." It would be hard to talk about Fairly Odd Parents and not also talk about another iconic Chip Skylark song from the series "Icky Vicky" about Timmy's babysitter, which gets an honorable mention on this list. Zac Farro Is One of One on Latest Solo Single ‘1'

Zac Farro can't replicate his own reality on his latest solo single, '1.' The song will appear on the Paramore and HalfNoise member's forthcoming solo album Operator, out July 18 via his own Congrats Records. ''1′ is a song about someone being completely and utterly unique,' Farro said in a statement. 'One of one, no carbon copy. When you're truly yourself it inspires others to be more themselves.' The record leans into psychedelic funk as he sings, 'All others scatter/It's mind over matter/I wanted to tell you how/It's you I can't live without/There's only one/Only one you.' '1' is the second offering from Operator, following the country-folk single 'My My.' 'We said, let's show up at the studio and see what happens. I've always had such a vision, even sometimes the name of an album, before I go in,' Farro said about the record he cut in Nashville with Josh Gilligan and Matt Chancey. 'This one was like, if we're together, the magic will reveal itself. And it did.' Operator follows Farro's work on HalfNoise's most recent record, City Talk, released in November 2023, and Paramore's latest full-length This Is Why, which arrived in February 2023. The album joins the Congrats Records indie release roster alongside Hannah Cohen's Earthstar Mountain and Grand Man, an unearthed album from Hayley Williams' grandfather Rusty Williams. 'I thought that it was a crime that these songs were sitting there on the shelf,' Farro said at the time. 'As a writer, he surprises me all the time because his voice is so good,' Williams told Rolling Stone about her longtime bandmate in 2023. 'He writes melodies that I get jealous of, and I'll be like, 'Goddammit, why didn't I say this in the song?'' Second day of York Racecourse's Music Showcase brings excitement

IT'S amazing to think that Ronan Keating first hit the headlines in 1993 when still a teenager with the formation of Boyzone. His worldwide fan club, based not only on his music but also as a judge on X Factor is one of music's largest and the fact he plays the Knavesmire on the second leg of a world tour- and this is one of just two in the UK- is a considerable coup for the York Racecourse team. His appearance on stage after the last race, will be a memorable climax to the Music Showcase weekend which also brings the Sky Bet Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival to a climax. York took the decision a month or so ago to increase the prize money on their two featured Saturday races, and they have been handsomely rewarded with, just like Friday night in excess of 100 runners declared. The £150,000 Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes (2.40pm) is seen as a stepping stone to next month's Group 1 Juddmonte International, which was voted the worlds best race in 2024 being run over the same mile and a quarter distance. This race was first run in 2006 and Twice Over, who won in 2011 is the only one to have completed the double, while Alflailia became the first horse to win this race twice when beating Kings Gambit and Passenger a year ago. Amazingly no jockey, so far, has won it more than once. A top-class field of seven line up headed by Almaqam who was last seen winning the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown in May. The race is a clash of the generations with three-year-old Stanhope Gardens, fifth in the Derby at Epsom and Irish raider Green Impact, sixth in the Irish Derby at The Curragh heading the younger age bracket. The £100,000 Sky Bet Dash (2.00pm), has attracted a maximum 22 runner field- but all eyes will be on Elmonjed, trained by Yorkshireman-in-exile William Haggas who won the equally valuable Constantine Handicap at last year's Sky Bet Ebor Festival. A draw in Stall 10 will only offer encouragement for his supporters. The second big sprint is unique as the jump jockeys, used to three miles plus around Aintree, Cheltenham and more locally at Wetherby, get their chance to exit from the stalls in the Jump Jockeys Nunthorpe (3.20pm) to face the shortest distance possible, just five furlongs. 20 of them will test this new skill to including Joe Williamson aboard Soul Seeker- first and second in this race for the last two years. York record holder, Copper Knight, is to be ridden by Jamie Hamilton, who tries to land his 8th victory on the Knavesmire at the thirty-third time of asking. Racing begins at 1.25pm with all the York facilities open for business, be it the new areas for food and drink in the Bustardthorpe End or in the centre of the course for picnics. But one thing is sure, the sporting action may well be a roller coaster that will all help build the atmosphere pending Mr Keating's arrival.
