Jammu MC chief reviews cleanliness to ensure comfortable stay of pilgrimsin city
The JMC chief visited Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas, Vikram Chowk, Jewel, Kacchi Chowni, Parade Area, Karan Nagar, Amphalla, Rehari and Narwal and other areas witnessing huge footfall of pilgrims.
He took stock of the sanitation operations and interacted with the staff and officials deployed at these locations. He checked the condition of streets, public areas and waste management facilities. He also reviewed the attendance of sanitation workers across different wards and expressed displeasure over the absence of some staff members. He directed the health officer to take strict disciplinary action against the absentee employees to ensure that no lapses occur in maintaining cleanliness.
He also examined the deployment of vehicles, waste collection points and treatment facilities and instructed the teams to remain vigilant and responsive, especially at sensitive and crowded spots. He emphasised that maintaining a clean, hygienic and welcoming environment for pilgrims and residents is the top priority for the Jammu MC.
Meanwhile, Reasi deputy commissioner Nidhi Malik, who also serves as the vice chairperson of the Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Board (SSKSB) on Monday inaugurated the Shrawan Mahotsav at the revered Shiv Khori Shrine.
The event was organised in collaboration with the tourism department and the Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Board, adding grandeur and coordinated planning to the religious event.
The Mahotsav commenced with a grand Kavad Yatra, which started from the Darshani Deodi at Ransoo Base Camp and culminated at the holy cave shrine of Lord Shiva. The deputy commissioner along with devotees, carrying ornately decorated Kavad on their shoulders, chanted religious hymns.
The Shrawan Mahotsav will feature cultural and religious programmes like the Kavad Yatra to be held every Monday of the month. The Shiv Puran Katha will be held from July 27 to August 4 and a bhajan sandhya will be organised on August 4.

After walking for 111 days Pilgrim from UP reaches Pahalgam for Amarnath Yatra
Anantnag (Jammu and Kashmir), July 15 (ANI): A man from Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri has been walking for the past 111 days in an extraordinary pilgrimage to the holy cave of Baba Amarnath in Jammu and Kashmir. Harnam Prasad, who is on a 7000 kilometer pilgrimage, has reached Pahalgam, carrying a 17 kg Kanwar on his shoulder. Harnam Prasad took on the pilgrimage from his house in Lakhimpuri, offering his prayers in Rameshwaran Jyotirling in Tamil Nadu, Srisailam Mallikarjuna Temple in Andhra Pradesh and visiting several religious places in Mathura, Vrindavan before reaching Pahalgam. 'I have been walking for one hundred and eleven days. I am taking a padyatra from Rameshwaram Jyoti Linga, to Baba Barfani Amarnath. On my way I have visited Srisailam Mallikarjun. After that, I went to Vrindavan Mathura and straight from Mathura I went to Delhi and visited Khatu Shyam Baba. Taking his blessings, I went straight to Jammu and Kashmir through Jammu and Punjab Haryana,' Harnam Prasad told ANI. Harnam Prasad lifted 17 kg Kanwar (sacred water pots) on his shoulders midway, from Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur, and said with them he will cover a total of 1700 km of 7000 km pilgrimage, before doing 'abhishek' of Lord Shiva and Nandi Maharaj with the sacred water. 'I lifed the Kanwar in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, with them I'll cover seventeen hundred kilometers of 7,000 kilometers padyatra and perform abhishek on Mahadev on Nandi Maharaj,' he said. Prasad said that he only wishes for our blooming country to flourish and it should be Hindu nation. 'My only wish is that our nation should be Hindu nation, Gaumata should be our Rashtramata and Akhand Bharat should be built,' he said. On Sunday, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced that the ongoing Amarnath Yatra has surpassed the 2-lakh mark, with devotees continuing to throng the holy cave shrine. In a post on X, LG Sinha expressed his joy, stating, 'With Baba Amarnath Ji's blessings, the holy pilgrimage has crossed the 2 lakh mark today. This is a sacred journey of a lifetime, and I welcome all the devotees to discover and experience the divinity. Har Har Mahadev!' The 38-day annual Amarnath pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre-high holy cave shrine in south Kashmir began on July 3 and will conclude on August 9. (ANI)

Amarnath Yatra: Fresh batch of over 6000 pilgrims leaves from Jammu base camp
Jammu, July 15 (UNI) Amid rains, a fresh batch of more than 6000 pilgrims of Shri Amarnath Yatra amid the chants of 'Bam Bam Bhole' this morning left for the holy cave shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas here from Bhagwati Nagar based Yatri Niwas. Officials said that the pilgrims left from the Jammu base camp in a fleet of 248 vehicles. 'A fresh batch of 6388 pilgrims this morning left for Shri Amarnath Yatra cave shrine in Kashmir from Jammu base camp amid tight security arrangements,' they added. They said that 3887 pilgrims left for Pahalgam and 2501 for Baltal in a fleet of 248 vehicles comprising Light Motor Vehicles and Heavy Motor Vehicles. The yatra has already crossed the two lakh mark. The 38-day annual pilgrimage started from both routes on July 2 with the flagging off of the first batch from here by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The yatra will end on August 9. So far, around 2 lakh pilgrims have visited the shrine. UNI VBH ARN
