Thai, Cambodian Troops Exchange Fire At Disputed Border As Tensions Escalate
The clash came shortly after Thailand closed northeastern border crossings with Cambodia and said it was withdrawing its ambassador and expelling the Cambodian ambassador.
Thai and Cambodian troops exchanged gunfire at a disputed border point near the ancient temple site of Prasat Ta Muen Thom in Thailand's Surin province early on Thursday, escalating tensions between the two neighbours.
Armed clashes broke out between Thailand and Cambodia along a disputed area, where both countries are accusing each other of firing the first shots after weeks of simmering tension and diplomatic spats.
The clash came shortly after Thailand closed northeastern border crossings with Cambodia and said it was withdrawing its ambassador and expelling the Cambodian ambassador to protest a land mine blast in which a Thai soldier lost a leg.
Following this, Cambodia responded, stating that it was downgrading diplomatic relations with Thailand to their lowest level and recalling all Cambodian staff from its embassy in Bangkok.
Thai authorities said the soldiers were injured, with one losing a foot, by a landmine while on a patrol on July 16 on the Thai side of the disputed border area between Ubon Ratchathani and Cambodia's Preah Vihear Province.
The embassy said in a Facebook post that Thais should leave Cambodia 'as soon as possible" unless they had urgent reasons to remain.
Relations between the Southeast Asian neighbors have deteriorated sharply since May when a Cambodian soldier was killed in an armed confrontation in one of several small patches of land both countries claim as their own territory.

Bhopal: Metro On Track For October Debut, CM Mohan Yadav Takes Test Ride
Last Updated: The Bhopal Metro will operate at speeds of 40–60 kmph, with a design speed of 90 kmph. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inspected the under-construction Bhopal Metro on Sunday and expressed hope that the priority corridor from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS will become operational by October this year. Yadav took a test ride on a three-coach metro train from Subhash Nagar station to AIIMS and from AIIMS to Rani Kamalapati station. He reviewed onboard features and facilities. 'The Bhopal metro project is progressing rapidly. A few incomplete works will be completed within one and a half to two months. The government is working swiftly to give a gift of metro train service to people by October," he told reporters while pointing out that metro train service in Indore has received a positive response. He said the test run of the Bhopal metro is underway, and the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) has completed the inspection. 'The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will soon inspect the metro works. Once the CMRS gives clearance, the priority corridor of the Bhopal Metro will be opened for public transport," he added. Yadav stated that the Bhopal metro project is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 6,941.40 crore. The priority corridor from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS is being built at a cost of approximately Rs 2,225 crore and is nearing completion. 'Our target is to start metro operations on this priority corridor by October 2025. The roadmap aims to fully operationalise both corridors- orange and blue lines- before 2030," he said. Yadav said the design speed of the Bhopal Metro is 90 kmph, with an operational speed of 40 to 60 kmph. A total of 27 state-of-the-art metro train sets have been planned for the metro project, out of which seven have already arrived in the state capital. The metro will not only ensure convenient travel but also contribute effectively to environmental protection and pollution control, he added. Sharing updates on the Indore metro, Yadav said the government aims to start the full section from Super Corridor to Malviya Nagar (Radisson) intersection by the end of this year. Amaravati, July 28 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, on the second day of his five-day Singapore tour, will focus on port-led development, urban planning and international sports collaboration. According to a press release, Naidu is slated to hold a meeting with Singapore's Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng on Monday morning, discussing energy, science, technology, and industrial cooperation between Singapore and Andhra Pradesh. 'On the second day of his five-day visit to Singapore, Naidu will hold meetings with several organisational heads, including representatives of the Singapore government. The discussions will centre around urban development, sports, and port-led industrial growth," said the release. The chief minister is scheduled to meet Airbus representatives, followed by an interaction with Honeywell officials to discuss industrial technology collaborations. Naidu will participate in a Business Round Table titled 'From Skills to Competencies, accelerating Workforce Transformation'.
