Bhopal: Metro On Track For October Debut, CM Mohan Yadav Takes Test Ride
The Bhopal Metro will operate at speeds of 40–60 kmph, with a design speed of 90 kmph.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inspected the under-construction Bhopal Metro on Sunday and expressed hope that the priority corridor from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS will become operational by October this year.
Yadav took a test ride on a three-coach metro train from Subhash Nagar station to AIIMS and from AIIMS to Rani Kamalapati station. He reviewed onboard features and facilities.
'The Bhopal metro project is progressing rapidly. A few incomplete works will be completed within one and a half to two months. The government is working swiftly to give a gift of metro train service to people by October," he told reporters while pointing out that metro train service in Indore has received a positive response.
He said the test run of the Bhopal metro is underway, and the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) has completed the inspection.
'The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will soon inspect the metro works. Once the CMRS gives clearance, the priority corridor of the Bhopal Metro will be opened for public transport," he added.
Yadav stated that the Bhopal metro project is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 6,941.40 crore. The priority corridor from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS is being built at a cost of approximately Rs 2,225 crore and is nearing completion.
'Our target is to start metro operations on this priority corridor by October 2025. The roadmap aims to fully operationalise both corridors- orange and blue lines- before 2030," he said.
Yadav said the design speed of the Bhopal Metro is 90 kmph, with an operational speed of 40 to 60 kmph. A total of 27 state-of-the-art metro train sets have been planned for the metro project, out of which seven have already arrived in the state capital.
The metro will not only ensure convenient travel but also contribute effectively to environmental protection and pollution control, he added.
Sharing updates on the Indore metro, Yadav said the government aims to start the full section from Super Corridor to Malviya Nagar (Radisson) intersection by the end of this year.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state government is moving quickly to enhance civic amenities, the chief minister added.

Now, Delhi Assembly runs solely on sunlight, first in the country
The Delhi Legislative Assembly on Sunday became the first legislature in the country to be powered entirely by solar energy, following the commissioning of a 500-kilowatt rooftop solar power plant. Alongside this, the Assembly launched the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA), marking a shift towards paperless legislative functioning. The two initiatives were inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, who called the Assembly's transition a model for sustainable and digital governance. 'This is not just an infrastructure upgrade, but a shift in institutional values,' he said, adding that the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs will provide all possible assistance to the efforts and initiatives of the Delhi Legislative Assembly in this regard. Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta emphasised that the solarisation of the Assembly is a cornerstone in a broader institutional shift towards sustainable and digital transformation. 'The present Assembly building was constructed in 1912 and was home to the country's first Parliament,' Gupta said. Highlighting the balance between tradition and progress, he remarked, 'Virasat aur Vikaas saath chalega (Legacy and development go together).' Gupta added that the solar power plant, installed on the rooftop, is expected to reduce the Assembly's monthly electricity bill by around Rs 15 lakh, or approximately Rs 1.75 crore annually. The savings, he said, would be redirected to developmental work. It will also potentially generate surplus electricity through net metering. The NeVA platform, developed under the Centre's 'One Nation, One Application' initiative, will be fully implemented from the upcoming Monsoon Session. A successful trial run was conducted with MLAs ahead of the inauguration. The trial offered firsthand experience of the digital interface, which includes smart delegate units with microphones and voting panels, RFID/NFC access, multilingual support, real-time document access via iPads, an automated AV system with HD cameras, and a secure, power-backed networking environment. The House will also see the introduction of the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, by Education Minister Ashish Sood. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is also scheduled to table the Finance and Appropriation Accounts for 2023-24, which will present the financial position of the national capital. Gupta will also present two audit reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG): one on state finances for 2023-24 and a separate report on the welfare of building and construction workers in 2022-23. Sood, who also holds the Power portfolio, will also lay the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission's annual accounts and a notification on Green Energy Open Access regulations.

Union cabinet secretary challenges seven-year-old CAT order in IFS officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi case
DEHRADUN: In a rare and significant move, the Union Cabinet Secretary has approached Uttarakhand High Court, to seek the quashing of a seven-year-old Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) order concerning Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi. The petition also challenges contempt notices issued to the Cabinet Secretary by the Nainital Bench of CAT on May 21. The Uttarakhand High Court is set to examine a long-standing dispute involving Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi, concerning the downgrading of his annual performance review and alleged suppression of corruption cases he investigated during his tenure at AIIMS, Delhi. The case dates back to 2018 when the Nainital bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) dismissed an application filed by the then Cabinet Secretary regarding the downgrading of Chaturvedi's Annual Performance Appraisal Report (APAR) for 2015-16. The Tribunal had ruled that the Cabinet Secretary was a necessary party to the case since he had approved Chaturvedi's selection and many of the officer's grievances were directed against him. In a recent development, the Cabinet Secretary has approached the High Court seeking to quash CAT's February 2023 order, which directed the Cabinet Secretary, Health Secretary, Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), and AIIMS to provide documents related to the closure of certain high-profile corruption cases. These cases were initiated during Chaturvedi's tenure as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of AIIMS from 2012 to 2014.
