Thelo Aasgaard urged to move up a level as Rangers close in
He played for Luton last season, but couldn't prevent their relegation to English League One.
Solbakken handed Aasgaard his international debut earlier this year and Norway are already in pole position to qualify for the World Cup after four wins out of four in their group, including a 3-0 rout over Italy.
And just last month, the Norway boss made clear he would not consider picking Aasgaard if he played in English football's third tier.
He said: "It goes without saying that it is difficult to play for the national team if you play in League One. League One is too low a level.

"Championship is no problem, with his development, that level is good enough, but with League One, that's where it stops.
"It's not up to me to choose who he signs for. There are many leagues he can play in. He is a versatile midfielder with good qualities both offensively and defensively."
And Aasgaard revealed he was handed a personal pep talk by Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland when he made his international bow against Moldova, when he played and scored in a 5-0 win.
He said: "To play with world class players like Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard was incredible for me.
"Erling had a long chat with me before the game and gave me instructions. He told me to take risks and shoot when I got the chance.
"He urged me to play my own game.
"I have made no secret that playing in the World Cup is my ultimate goal."

A fortnight out from the first Test against the Wallabies and the Lions struggled to put away a side that finished eighth in the Super Rugby table and had lost five of their last six matches. Even the arrival of a heavyweight bench could not provide the lift Andy Farrell's men needed at Allianz Stadium and a dismal second-half made for grim viewing with Alex Mitchell's 55th-minute try at least providing some breathing space. He was taken to hospital after suffering chest pains while watching football on TV at home. Souness also needed shoulder SURGERY after completing the last charity channel swim - but he was determined not to let the side down and duly did his bit for a good cause. But a video early in the swim shows how tough he found it, admitting he felt terrible in the break between his first leg of the day and his second.
