
UAE participates in Extraordinary General Assembly of Arab Civil Aviation Organization in Rabat
RABAT (WAM) The United Arab Emirates took part in the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organisation, held on Thursday at the ACAO's headquarters in Rabat, Morocco, with the participation of all Arab member states. The meeting aimed to reinforce Arab unity and coordination, and to consolidate a stronger collective presence on the international aviation stage.The discussions focused on enhancing the representation of Arab countries in the upcoming session of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Council, as well as on joint efforts to amplify the Arab voice in shaping key decisions that will impact the future of global civil aviation.Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, stressed that strengthening Arab cooperation in the aviation sector remains a core priority for the UAE. He reiterated the country's commitment to promoting an active Arab role within international organisations, which plays a central role in setting global aviation policies.
Al Suwaidi added: 'These gatherings offer a valuable platform to align strategies, unify efforts, and reinforce coordination among Arab states. They contribute significantly to consolidating Arab positions and influencing international civil aviation decisions in a manner that serves the shared interests of all member states.

GCC population hit 61.2 million by 2024 end
12 July 2025 12:15 MUSCAT (WAM)The latest data released by the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-Stat) revealed that the population of the GCC countries reached 61.2 million by the end of 2024, an increase of more than 2.1 million people compared to 2023 figures, representing a growth rate of 36 centre's statistics, issued on the occasion of World Population Day, observed annually on July 11, indicated a swift recovery in population numbers across GCC countries from the impact of the COVID-19 2021, the population has increased by around 7.6 million people, representing a growth rate of 14.2 percent. This reflects the rapid resumption of population growth following the slowdown experienced by some countries during the data also showed that the population of the GCC countries constitutes 0.7 percent of the world's total number of males in the GCC countries reached approximately 38.5 million, accounting for 62.8 percent of the total population, while the number of females stood at around 22.7 million, representing 37.2 percent of the total population. The gender ratio in the GCC countries reached 169 males for every 100 females in 2024, compared to a global ratio of 101 males for every 100 females in the same year.

MBRF-APA deal to boost publishing sector
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Arab Publishers' Association (APA) in Egypt to promote knowledge dissemination, reinforce publishing and distribution networks, and support industry creators through strategic support and innovative opportunities. The MoU was signed at MBRF's headquarters by Jamal Bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, and Mohamed Rashad, President of APA, to establish a strategic partnership and reinforce collaborative frameworks in the fields of publishing, printing, and training. As part of the agreement, both parties will actively collaborate in key areas, including translation rights management, intellectual property exchange, and printing. It also outlines plans for organising training workshops to empower publishing industry professionals, and showcasing Arab publishers' works on MBRF's Digital Knowledge Hub. Furthermore, the MoU enables both entities to launch innovative events and activities to achieve shared objectives and deliver mutual benefits.
