City industrialists hail MP CM's visit amid Pb's policy gaps, fading sheen

Time of India08-07-2025
Ludhiana: The visit of Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav to the city Monday created a buzz in the industry, with leading business heads attending an interactive session with him on investment opportunities in the state.
They also openly voiced their concerns about the challenges faced in Punjab on the occasion. Several prominent industrialists who have already invested in MP shared their success stories, while others expressed keen interest in exploring opportunities there, citing more favourable policies and incentives.
The event turned out to be a gathering of Ludhiana's industry stalwarts — Rajinder Gupta, chairman of the Trident Group, along with the honchos of Vardhman Textiles, Ralson Tyres, Deepak Fasteners, Bhagwati and others.
Many industrialists noted that MP had managed to secure over Rs. 15,000 crore in investment commitments from Ludhiana-based companies, thanks to its proactive outreach and ease of doing business.
SC Ralhan, president of the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), was candid in his critique of the situation in Punjab. "The policies in Punjab are not conducive to the setting up of industry anymore. Power tariffs are high, and sudden shutdowns are causing huge losses, especially with sensitive and expensive machines," he said.
Highlighting the acute shortage of labour in the region, Ralhan said, "Over the past two years, labour availability has become a serious issue. The Punjab govt must set up residential clusters in industrial zones to retain workforce. Drawing a comparison with MP, he praised the MP govt for offering timely and useful incentives. "A clear shift is happening. Earlier, it was the big units that invested in MP. Now, even MSMEs will begin moving there due to the policies that the govt has brought in," he said.
Sushil Mittal of Bhagwati Lacto Vegetarian, who has already invested in MP, said the state's administration has gone out of its way to support investors. "Every businessman looks at benefits, and MP is offering those benefits. There are more subsidies, less red tape, and a proactive approach. We've set up a food park there and now plan to start a biogas project as well," he added.
KK Seth, chairman of the Federation of Industrial and Commercial Organisation (FICO), said the visit has generated strong interest within Ludhiana's iconic bicycle industry.
"Eight bicycle companies are ready to go in together with an investment plan. The land prices are quite reasonable, and 25% of our investment is covered through subsidies. If the MP govt gives us a commitment of 10 lakh bicycles through their public distribution schemes, it becomes a viable project for us," he said.
Gurmeet Singh Kular, president of FICO, said the interaction with Dr Mohan Yadav left a strong impression. "He appeared to be a very positive and practical CM. Land prices for Rs 800 per square yard, 40% capital subsidy, and six operational airports make investments there attractive," he said.

Vigilance probe on ‘Aadudam Andhra' reaches final stages

Tirupati: The ambitious 'Aadudam Andhra' sports initiative, launched to foster grassroots sports development in the state during the previous YSRCP government, is now un-der a cloud of controversy following allegations of financial mismanagement, poor-quality sports equipment, and po-litical meddling. A comprehensive vigilance inquiry, launched to probe the alleged misuse of public funds, is expected to reach final stages in August. The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (Saap) has point-ed to a massive scam worth Rs 60-65 crore in the imple-mentation of the programme, which was rolled out in De-cember 2023 in the name of promoting sports such as cricket, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, and badminton from village to district levels. Saap chairman A Ravi Naidu, speaking to The Hans India, stated that the district-level vigilance inquiry has been completed and a state-level probe is currently in progress, with the final report expected anytime in August. 'We have identified irregularities in procurements, cash incen-tives, food supplies, medals, and publicity. The final report will shed light on the lapses and name the individuals re-sponsible,' he said. The state government had sanctioned Rs 25,000 per man-dal, municipality, and assembly constituency, and Rs 10,000 per ward and village secretariat to conduct the sports events, amounting to Rs 81 lakh for Chittoor district and Rs 83 lakh for Tirupati district alone. However, the kits provided — including bats, balls, shuttle rackets, t-shirts, and corks — have been widely criticised by players for their substandard quality. Several partici-pants across various levels reported that the equipment was unusable after just a single game. Complaints of the leftover kits not reaching local schools, as per government orders, have added another layer of concern, sparking questions over their possible diversion. Adding to the controversy are claims of political interfer-ence in the selection of winners during the programme's contests. There are accusations that the YSRCP govern-ment allegedly influenced the results to benefit its party loyalists. Vigilance officials are also examining reports that cash prizes earmarked for winners were either delayed or not credited at all, pointing to possible misappropriation of funds. Vigilance authorities are now finalising their comprehen-sive report, which will be submitted to the government very soon. Sources indicate that the findings could trigger administrative or legal proceedings against those found guilty.

Jagan synonymous with vendetta politics, says Janardhan Reddy

Tirupati: Roads and buildings minister B C Janardhan Reddy slammed Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy as the 'brand ambassador of vindictive politics,' stating that the former CM sees everything through a lens of revenge because he himself ruled with vengeance. Speaking to the media on Monday, Reddy said the people of Andhra Pradesh clearly know who resorted to political vendetta in the past five years. Referring to the demolition of Praja Vedika and Chandrababu Naidu's arrest, Reddy asked whether those weren't acts of political vengeance. 'Today, law is taking its course on the wrongdoings of the past. We exposed the liquor, land, and sand scams even before elections,' he said, accusing the YSRCP of looting thousands of crores, especially in the liquor scam. The minister said nearly Rs 4,000 crore was siphoned off under the previous regime and hinted that the investigation would soon reveal where the money went and who benefited. 'If the probe proves guilt, no matter how powerful, punishment is inevitable,' he added. Janardhan Reddy denied any personal vendetta in the ongoing probes, asserting that people voted the coalition to power for governance free of revenge politics. He criticised Jagan for predicting that the government would collapse in three years, questioning, 'Who is he to decide? People already dethroned him once. We have four more years to serve.' Listing the coalition government's initiatives, he mentioned the Super six schemes, increased pensions, Deepam, Thalliki Vandanam, and upcoming free bus travel for women. He also took a dig at YSRCP's electoral downfall: 'If Jagan's governance was great, why did they fall from 151 to 11 seats?' On the R&B front, the minister said the department was left in shambles by YSRCP, with 25,000 km of pothole-ridden roads, which the coalition repaired with Rs 1,200 crore. The government also cleared Rs 2,500 crore in dues left by the previous regime and is preparing DPRs for new roads. Responding to ex-MLA R K Roja's comments, he said criticism of women is unwelcome but reminded that Roja herself had used abusive language against opposition families while in power. City MLA Arani Srinivasulu accompanied the Minister during the interaction.
