Over 50% of drug abuse cases in Perak involve youths
Perak PEMADAM chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi revealed that out of 14,534 reported cases, 7,488 involved young individuals, calling the trend alarming. He stressed the need for stronger preventive measures, including community involvement.
'To prevent the situation from worsening, all parties, including the community, must play their part,' he said after officiating the PEMADAM Mini Carnival and flagging off the Perak PEMADAM Run and Explorace 2025 at Polo Ground. The event drew over 1,500 participants.
PEMADAM has also enlisted 150 student volunteers to combat drug abuse in higher education institutions. 'These young people serve as awareness agents on campuses, helping spread anti-drug messages effectively,' Mohd Azlan added.
The association has launched an official website to provide information and facilitate online volunteer registrations. - Bernama

"On July 28, at 5pm, the Daisy started its voyage and was supposed to arrive at its first checkpoint at Pattani Port, Thailand," he stated. However, the yacht encountered a storm in the waters off Pulau Yu at 2.30pm on Tuesday and is believed to have capsized, with only Ates Demiroren managing to save himself. The rescued victim is currently reported to be weak and is receiving treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital. The Marine Department, the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), and the Turkiye Embassy have been informed of the incident for further action. "All matters involving the Turkish nationals will be managed entirely by the Turkiye Embassy, and the rescued victim will be transported home once his condition improves," he added. Lithuanian Prime Minister Paluckas Steps Down
RIGA (Latvia), July 31 (Bernama-dpa) - Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas said on Thursday he would step down amid growing pressure arising from allegations of conflicts of interest and nepotism, reported German Press Agency (dpa). "I have decided to resign from the office of prime minister," Paluckas announced in a statement, adding that he would submit his resignation to President Gitanas Nausėda shortly. Paluckas has increasingly come under fire due to allegations of dubious business dealings and faced calls for his resignation, including from one of the two coalition partners in his centre-left government. bootstrap slideshow Investigations are ongoing into past and present business dealings involving the 45-year-old, who, up until now, denied any conflicts of interest and dismissed the allegations as deliberate attacks by political opponents.
