NFL vet has turned into NASCAR pit crew star
The former South Carolina State linebacker now serves as the jackman for NASCAR driver Ross Chastain's No. 1 Chevrolet ZL1 crew.
'After being in the NFL and college football, it gave me the perfect ingredients to cross over to NASCAR. Here, that same professionalism and athleticism applies," McFadden told the Winston-Salem Journal. 'The understanding of how things are done is similar, and that's how I worked my way up to being a jackman.'
McFadden made his mark at South Carolina State University, an HBCU known for producing NFL players. After tallying 12 tackles in 2007, he broke out in 2008 with 88 tackles and five sacks. His performance earned him MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors and confirmed his ability to lead and disrupt offenses.
He began his professional career in 2012 when the Pittsburgh Steelers signed him to a reserve/future contract. Although released during final cuts, the team added him to the practice squad. He earned a promotion to the active roster in November but was later released and re-signed to the practice squad.
In 2013, McFadden joined the Oakland Raiders' practice squad. He moved to the St. Louis Rams in 2014, earning a spot on the active roster in October. He remained with the team until September 2015, when he was released during final cuts.
Now, McFadden is finding success in NASCAR as Chastain continues to climb the ranks.

While the San Francisco 49ers were busy adding and releasing players earlier this offseason, one of the most surprising moments of the last few months came just before the start of the new league year when they released veteran fullback Kyle Juszczyk. "It gave me so much perspective to kind of step back and see how good I had it — and then get the chance to come back to it. So few people have that opportunity. We jokingly called it a living funeral. I got all my goodbye texts — 'how much we loved you and appreciated you' and all that type of stuff, but then I got to come back. "So I got to feel that love from everybody. And I'm locked up for two years. I don't have to deal with this next year and I'm thankful for it now that it's over.' Juszczyk originally came to the 49ers in 2017 after spending the first four years of his professional career with the Baltimore Ravens, who took him in the fourth round (No. 130) of the 2013 NFL draft out of Harvard. And since then, the Crimson product has loved being part of the franchise, and that's why he chose to return to San Francisco. "It's so much," Juszczyk said. "Everything you just said, being able to walk into the building, and I literally know everyone. I know the chefs, the custodians, the PR team, the community team. I know all the players, like it's just a familiarity. My home is there. We bought a house back in 2017, and like, that's home. And to be in California, to be on what I think is a really good team, a team that I think has a really great opportunity this year. So there's just too many good things." In his mid-30s, Juszczyk is still one of the top fullbacks in the game, and that should continue into the 2025 season, where he'll be asked to block for Christian McCaffrey again, after the former first-round pick missed most of last year due to injuries. While there was quite a bit of turnover for the 49ers this offseason, having Juszczyk back as a steady presence on the field and in the locker room is very important. San Francisco risked losing him for a few days, but they should be glad that he's back for another two years in the red, white and gold. Bengals young defender predicted to disappoint this 2025 NFL season
The Cincinnati Bengals are aiming to get back to the playoffs in the 2025 NFL season, but they'll need their young defensive players to step up. Still, Bleacher Report expects one of their new additions on defense to face a tough challenge. Cincinnati extended Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase this offseason, meaning that, along with Joe Burrow's new contract, the Bengals have a lot of money tied up on offense. That means the team needs to make the most of their draft picks, since rookies come in on inexpensive contracts. Advertisement At the 2025 NFL Draft, the Bengals went defense with their first-round pick, selecting Texas A&M's Shemar Stewart 17th overall. Over three seasons at Texas A&M, Stewart posted 4.5 sacks, 65 tackles, and one forced fumble, numbers that may not inspire much confidence. Furthermore, there's the possibility that Cincinnati won't have their standout pass rusher for the 2025 season, as he stated in May that he is unhappy with how the contract extension process is going and could be on the way out. 'With the lack of communication post-draft made it imminently clear to my party — meaning my wife, my son and my agent, a small group of people — that I had (to) inform that this might not work out," Hendrickson said in May (h/t The Athletic). "I don't think it was necessary. I think we should have all hoped for the best until proven otherwise.' Advertisement If Hendrickson isn't in the Bengals' defense to start the season, it puts more pressure on Stewart to be a productive player come Week 1. All rookies go through a learning experience, but Cincinnati might be putting the young pass rusher in a difficult spot where he has to adapt quickly. That could lead to him being a bust this season. Advertisement But as we peruse ESPN's top 10 tight ends in the NFL ahead of the 2025 season, there's no Bucs player to be found - no Cade Otton. Is that deserved? Maybe. Otton is good. He's good for the Bucs. But is he elite? Certainly an argument could be made that he's not. Especially with his history of drops. Otton was a fourth-round pick by the Bucs in 2022 out of then-Pac-12 powerhouse Washington. He had an impressive rookie campaign with 391 yards and two touchdowns, but suffered from drops. He posted just 42 catches on 65 targets with five drops, leading all tight ends. The next season wasn't much better, with three drops on 67 targets, and he got worse last season. In 2024, Otton posted 59 catches on 87 targets with 600 yards and four touchdowns but eight drops. Advertisement If Otton can clean up his pass catching, he'd be a far more effective offensive tool for Mayfield and the Bucs. In ProFootballFocus' rankings earlier this season, Otton was No. 20 overall, which actually sounds a little high, honestly. "Otton's Achilles' heel is drops. He has the third most (11) at the position across the past two years. His 63.1 PFF receiving grade in 2024 was a career high and also marks the first time he generated more than 1 yard per route run (1.31). If he can hang on to the ball (also three fumbles the past two years), Otton has the skills to rise on this list."
