Andhra Pradesh govt to train 1.25 lakh Yoga instructors
Disclosing the programme schedule in a press release on Sunday, Special Chief Secretary (Health, Medical and Family Welfare) MT Krishna Babu said that the government would train 2,600 master trainers and 1.25 lakh local trainers to cover 70 lakh people.
A massive awareness campaign, including a door-to-door drive and rally on May 27, is also on cards.
In the second week (May 28-June 3), events will take place at Undavalli Caves, Swarnala Cheruvu, Puttaparthi, SV Zoo Park and Thotlakonda. In the third week (June 4-9), demonstrations will be held at the Tribal Museum, Siddavatam Fort, Samarlakota temple, Chintapalli Beach, and Shilparamam. Programmes will cater to tribals, NGOs, teachers, the elderly, and youth organisations.
The fourth week (June 10-15) events will be held at Mangalagiri Eco Park (Guntur), Kondareddy Buruju (Kurnool), Sri Kalahasti, and Vishwanatha Sports Club (Visakhapatnam), with themes focused on students, industrial workers, the business community, the disabled, and unemployed youth. In the final week (June 16-21), yoga sessions will be organised at Vadapalli temple (Konaseema), Maredumilli (Araku), Sriharikota (Tirupati), and Ahobilam Temple (Nandyal).

Committee set up to monitor fertility centres
HYDERABAD: In response to the recent surrogacy racket involving multiple arrests, the Health department on Saturday constituted a committee to inspect all private IVF clinics and fertility centres in the state. The committee, functioning under the supervision of the Health Commissioner, will assess whether these establishments comply with legal, clinical and ethical standards in reproductive medical services. The racket came to light after the arrest of several individuals, including the founder-director of Universal Srushti Fertility Centre, Athaluri Namratha alias Pachipala Namratha, her son Pachipala Jayanth Krishna, centre manager C Kalyani Atchayyamma, Gandhi Hospital anaesthetist Dr Nargula Sadanandam, lab technician Gollamandala Chenna Rao, and agent Dhanasri Santoshi. They have been accused of purchasing babies from vulnerable women and presenting them as children born through surrogacy. In an order issued by Health Secretary Christina Z Chongthu, the department noted that certain IVF clinics were operating in violation of the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2011, and the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021. Concerns were raised over the lack of mandatory registration, procedural transparency, and breaches of ethical guidelines, particularly regarding gamete donation, embryo transfers and surrogacy arrangements. According to the order, the three-member committee will include the Health Commissioner, the CEO of the Rajiv Aarogyasri Health Care Trust, and the Director of Medical Education. The committee is expected to submit its report to the government within 10 days. It has been authorised to summon any official or expert to provide information relevant to the inquiry.

Government to provide additional nutritional supplements for tuberculosis patients in Karnataka
The Health Department has issued an order to provide additional nutritional food in the form of nutrition powder for the first two months of treatment to tuberculosis (TB) patients who are weak owing to the disease. If a newly diagnosed TB patient has a body mass index (BMI) of less than 18 at the start of treatment, they are eligible to receive 6 kg of nutrition powder per month for the first two months. This distribution must be done through anganwadi centres for eligible beneficiaries in all districts, except Chitradurga, Ballari, and Tumakuru, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Karnataka Mining Environment Restoration Corporation (KMERC). 'From August 1, 2025, it must be ensured that the TB patients who are newly diagnosed and consuming the nutrition powder have their body weight measured and recorded in the Ni-kshay software and in the TB treatment card. The supplied nutrition powder must be stored properly without compromising quality,' stated the order, which has been issued to ensure better care and support for TB patients in Karnataka.

T.N. CM Stalin inaugurates medical camps under ‘Nalam Kaakkum Stalin' scheme
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday (August 2, 2025) inaugurated medical camps across all 38 districts in the State organised under the 'Nalam Kaakkum Stalin' scheme, aimed at taking healthcare to people's doorsteps. 'This is the first stage programme I am participating in, outside Fort St. George, after being discharged from the hospital,' said Mr. Stalin, who had been under treatment at a private hospital in Chennai owing to certain health issues last week. 'The initiative is aimed at safeguarding the welfare of the people of the State. The people's welfare is my welfare,' he said at the inaugural event organised by the Health Department at St. Bede's Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School complex in Santhome. Mr. Stalin said as part of the programme, 1,256 camps are being conducted, and priority is given to rural areas, areas where special medical facilities are fewer, and places with higher Scheduled Caste population. There are 200 medical staff, including doctors, in each camp, and they offer 17 specialised medical services, he said. The Chief Minister also said the camps will prioritise people from economically weaker sections, those with diabetes and blood pressure, heart patients, lactating mothers, and pregnant women, among others. The test reports would be given to the beneficiaries in a file, and they would act as their medical history, which can be used anywhere, Mr. Stalin said. 'Our aim is to ensure that medical facilities, which are available in urban areas to those who can afford them, are also made accessible to poor people. In Tamil Nadu, the medical infrastructure is spread across villages,' Mr. Stalin said. 'Camps like these are held to offer medical services closer to those who are not able to access hospitals. People should make use of it,' he said. Mr. Stalin requested the doctors to treat people coming to them as 'medical beneficiaries', and urged them to take utmost care of them. 'Tamil Nadu should be numero uno in all fields. On that basis, it should be the top State in offering medical services and protecting the health of people,' he said.
