Draft data protection act receives 6,915 inputs, says govt
The DPDP Act is a comprehensive data privacy law to regulate the processing of digital personal data. It balances the rights of individuals to protect their personal data with the need for lawful data processing.
'The policies of government of India are aimed at ensuring a safe, trusted, and accountable cyberspace for all users. Capacity building and awareness are important components of the Government's IT security strategy,' said Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Jitin Prasada, in the Rajya Sabha.
Regular training programs are conducted across sectors to build IT security skills among officials and professionals. Public awareness campaigns such as Cyber Security Awareness Month and Safer Internet Day promote online safety, secure digital transactions and cyber hygiene, the minister added.
CyberShakti programme, launched in October 2024, aims to build a skilled women workforce in cybersecurity. Under Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) programme, 3,637 workshops have been conducted, reaching over 8.2 lakh+ participants, including academia, law enforcement, government personnel, women, and the general public
Also, multilingual awareness materials such as handbooks, videos, posters, and advisories (including on deepfakes) are widely disseminated.
Some of the key measures taken by government to strengthen cybersecurity are the establishment of National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC) for protection of critical information infrastructure in the country (Section 70A of IT Act, 2000); Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) designated as the national agency for responding to cyber security incidents (Section 70B of IT Act); National Cyber Coordination Centre (NCCC) implemented by the CERT-In detects cybersecurity threats, facilitates coordination among different agencies by sharing with them the information to mitigate cybersecurity threats.
The DPDP Act provides a comprehensive framework for the protection of digital personal data of individuals while making Data Fiduciaries accountable for personal data breaches. Data fiduciaries are required to implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to prevent personal data breaches by taking reasonable security safeguards.

30 deaths in five years from 12 helicopter accidents, Centre tells Rajya Sabha
NEW DELHI: A total of 30 fatalities have occurred in 12 helicopter accidents across India over the past five years, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday. In a written response to a query by Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, seeking details of helicopter accidents and fatalities in the last five years and the remedial actions taken by the government, Mohol submitted specific state-wise data. He stated that one accident in Chhattisgarh led to two deaths, four mishaps in Maharashtra resulted in seven deaths, and seven accidents in Uttarakhand claimed 21 lives. On the remedial measures undertaken, the Minister said, 'The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has reiterated safety norms for helicopter operations in the country including Chardham Yatra, focussing on access control, improving parking arrangements, regulating strict adherence to SOPs. The DGCA has initiated additional surveillance and safety audits of helicopter operations for the Chardham Yatra.' In a separate written reply to YSRCP MP S Niranjan Reddy on the steps taken to regulate the surge in air ticket prices during festivals and emergencies, Mohol informed the House that the DGCA has also set up a Traffic Monitoring Unit (TMU) to monitor airfares on a monthly basis. He said, 'In order to enhance the transparency in airfare, DGCA has set up Tariff Monitoring Unit (TMU) that monitors airfares on selected 78 routes on a random basis to ensure that the airlines do not charge airfares outside the range declared by them, under the provision of sub-rule (2) of Rule 135 of the Aircraft Rules 1937. This covers about 27% of the domestic traffic.' The Minister added that the government is playing the role of a facilitator by creating an enabling environment to support the growth of the sector.

Congress govt in Tgana to meet President to seek assent for BC quota bills
Last Updated: Hyderabad, Jul 28 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy would seek President Droupadi Murmu's appointment to meet her to request assent for the Assembly bills providing 42 per cent reservation to Backward Classes, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said on Monday. Briefing reporters after a meeting of the state cabinet Monday night, Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the Congress government has decided to garner support from all friendly parties at the national level, including Members of Parliament across party lines for providing 42 per cent reservation to Backward Classes (BCs) in local body polls and in education and employment opportunities. 'The chief minister is seeking appointment of opposition leaders in Parliament on August 5, 6 and 7. The Congress party along with its friendly parties and their members in Parliament, Telangana MLAs,MLCs and BC intellectuals will go to Delhi and request the President (for assent)," Prabhakar said adding ministers also would seek President Murmu's appointment. Top leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge are also seeking the President's appointment, he added. The bills were passed in March and sent to the Governor and it is pending assent from the President. Prabhakar sought support from all the political parties in Telangana in order to secure Presidential assent to the bills. The Telangana government earlier this month issued an ordinance facilitating 42 per cent reservation to Backward Classes in local body polls by amending an Act that was passed by the State Assembly in 2018. On June 25, the Telangana High Court directed the state government to hold elections for local bodies within three months. Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede: Karnataka govt revokes suspension of former Bengaluru top cop, 3 other officers
The Karnataka government Monday revoked suspensions of former Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda and three other officers who were suspended following the M Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede that claimed 11 lives on June 4. However, IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash remains suspended. Among the suspended officers, Vikash had approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) seeking relief from his suspension. The CAT granted Vikash's petition and revoked his suspension. The state government subsequently challenged the CAT order, which is currently being heard by the Karnataka High Court. Besides Dayananda, the government reinstated former deputy commissioner of police (Central) Shekhar H Tekkannavar, C Balakrishna (former assistant commissioner of police, Cubbon Park sub-division), and A K Girish (former police inspector, Cubbon Park police station). The suspensions were imposed immediately after the stampede at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where celebrations were held on June 4, following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title victory a day earlier. The government's suspension order cited 'substantial dereliction of duty' that caused 'misery, loss of precious life and embarrassment for the government.' The government had blamed the police for failing to implement adequate safety measures during the celebrations and for providing insufficient public information regarding necessary precautionary steps. In Monday's order, the government noted that following the stampede, it had ordered a magisterial inquiry and set up a one-man judicial commission under retired High Court judge Justice John Michael D'Cunha. 'Since both the Judicial Commission and Magisterial Committee have completed their enquiry into the stampede incident and submitted their reports to the Government on 10.07.2025 and 11.07.2025, respectively. Further, the officers have also submitted representations read at ref (5) requesting to revoke their suspension. In view of the above, the order of suspension of the above-said officers has been reconsidered by the Government,' the government order reads.
