Dave Chappelle roasted Donald Trump for taking over as chairman of the Kennedy Center—weeks after a past joke about the president went newly viral on social media.

Chappelle was discussing the importance of jazz icon Duke Ellington's legacy when he said: "We gotta keep this tradition alive—this is one of the best traditions we got going in America. And you see what Trump did at the Kennedy Center? You're next, he'll come over here.

The joke got a laugh from the crowd before Chappelle spotted Baldwin, famous for his own Trump impression, in the audience.
"Alec, I should have asked you to do that impression tonight," he said.
Trump's move to take over at the Kennedy Center sparked cancellations from some artists in protest, including Issa Rae, Rhiannon Giddens and the musical Hamilton, NPR reported.

Donald Trump still has a political bone to pick with Queen Bey. The president, who has previously voiced criticism of celebrities who showed support for his election counterpart, Kamala Harris, took to social media on Saturday, July 26, to renew his unfounded claim that pop star Beyoncé was allegedly paid $11 million to endorse Harris' presidential bid. In the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election, the "Cowboy Carter" songstress made her endorsement of Harris official when she appeared at the former vice president's abortion rights rally in her hometown of Houston in October. She also cleared the usage of her 2016 song "Freedom" for Harris, and the tune became the Democratic nominee's official campaign song. "I'm looking at the large amount of money owed by the Democrats after the presidential election and the fact that they admit to paying, probably illegally, $11 million dollars to singer Beyoncé for an ENDORSEMENT (she never sang, not one note...)," wrote Trump in a fiery Truth Social post, also citing alleged endorsement payments to media mogul Oprah Winfrey and civil rights activist Al Sharpton. USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for Beyoncé for comment. "Can you imagine what would happen if politicians started paying for people to endorse them. All hell would break out!" Trump concluded. "Kamala and all of those that received endorsement money BROKE THE LAW. They should all be prosecuted! Thank you for your attention to this matter." Trump's digital tirade comes just two months after he accused the Grammy-winning singer and other celebrities of being paid to publicly support Harris' candidacy. In a May Truth Social post, the GOP president announced plans for a "major investigation" into the Harris campaign's celebrity endorsements. At the time of Trump's original allegations in May, the Federal Election Commission had no record of an $11 million payment to Beyoncé from Harris' presidential campaign. Additionally, the agency does not have rules explicitly prohibiting candidates from paying for endorsements. It is unclear where Trump got the unsubstantiated $11 million figure. The Harris campaign last year rejected a rumor that it paid Beyoncé $10 million for her endorsement that spread on social media shortly after the music star's October 2024 appearance with Harris. Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles, also pushed back at the $10 million rumor in a November 2024 Instagram post, calling it "false information" and a "lie." She added that the singer "actually paid for her own flights for her and her team." A Big Apple rally in support of on-his-way-out 'Late Show' host Stephen Colbert drew fewer than two dozen people Sunday — with even the NYPD cops on scene quickly calling it a day since most of the demonstrators left after just a few minutes. Organizers said the 'We're With Colbert' gathering outside the CBS Broadcast Center on Manhattan's West Side said it was meant to be part of a nationwide call for 'integrity.' The White House had some strong words to say about The View co-host Joy Behar after she said Trump was 'so jealous' of former President Barack Obama. During an earlier press conference, in an attempt to distract from questions about the Jeffrey Epstein files, Trump accused Obama of 'treason' and his administration of trying to 'steal' the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. In response, Obama spokesperson Patrick Rodenbush called Trump's claims 'outrageous,' 'bizarre' and a 'weak attempt at distraction.' On The View, Behar also had some thoughts. 'First of all, who tried to overthrow the government on Jan. 6. Who was that again? That was not Obama,' she said, referring to the deadly insurrection on the United States Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, which was mostly led by Trump's supporters. 'The thing about him is he's so jealous of Obama, because Obama is everything that he is not: trim, smart, handsome, happily married and can sing Al Green's song 'Let's Stay Together' better than Al Green. And Trump cannot stand it. It's driving him crazy,' Behar added. White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers then clapped back at the View co-host in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, which read, 'Joy Behar is an irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. It's no surprise that The View's ratings hit an all-time low last year. She should self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump's historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off air.' Over the past week, Trump has been firing off attacks at late night hosts after it was announced that Stephen Colbert's The Late Show would be coming to an end in May 2026. CBS, which is owned by Paramount Global, cited a 'financial decision' amid a declining linear TV landscape for the cancellation. However, there has been other speculation swirling as the news came shortly after Paramount agreed to pay $16 million to settle a lawsuit from Trump, who sued over former Vice President Kamala Harris' 60 Minutes interview. Sources previously told THR that Paramount believes the lawsuit posed a threat to Skydance's deal to acquire the company, as it seeks approval by the FCC under the Trump administration. Colbert has openly criticized the settlement on his CBS show. Following the news, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to positively gloat about The Late Show being canceled, writing, 'I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!' Colbert later clapped back at the president, saying on his show, 'How dare you, sir?
