Trying to lose weight? Expert says changing this morning habit can make a big difference
eat
, but what you
drink
—or don't?
According to
Professor Franklin Joseph
, head of
Dr Frank's Weight Loss Clinic
, a common and often overlooked morning mistake is quietly derailing thousands of people from reaching their health goals. The culprit? Ignoring hydration.
The Morning Mistake That's Slowing You Down
In a recent interview with
The Sun
, Professor Joseph sounded the alarm on a widespread habit: heading straight for coffee or breakfast without drinking water first. 'Most people wake up and go straight to the kitchen or grab a coffee without a second thought,' he said. 'But if you're not preparing your body for the day properly, you're missing a huge opportunity to boost fat burning, improve energy, and control your appetite naturally.'

The body, he explained, loses water overnight through breathing and sweating. Skipping hydration in the morning places you in a state of mild dehydration from the moment you start your day. This seemingly small oversight can snowball into a sluggish metabolism, increased sugar cravings, and brain fog.
Water First, Food or Coffee Later
The fix? Simple, but crucial. Joseph recommends drinking at least 400 to 500ml of water within 30 minutes of waking up. It's not about sipping slowly either—this early hydration helps reset your internal systems, energizes your cells, and helps regulate hunger throughout the day.

For those looking for an added boost, the professor suggests adding a pinch of sea salt or an electrolyte supplement. 'Electrolytes can make a big difference,' he said. 'They support hydration at a cellular level, helping you feel sharper and more energized—especially if you wake up feeling groggy or are physically active.'

Your Coffee Might Be Working Against You
And while a cup of coffee may seem like your go-to wake-up call, Professor Joseph offers a strong word of caution. 'Caffeine first thing in the morning spikes cortisol levels—the body's main stress hormone—which can interfere with fat loss, increase belly fat storage, and make you feel more anxious.'
That doesn't mean you have to quit coffee entirely—but it may be wise to delay it by an hour or two. Hydrating first allows your body to stabilize and start the day on the right metabolic track.
Rewire Your Morning, Reclaim Your Goals
In the crowded world of weight loss advice, this insight cuts through the noise with refreshing clarity. You don't need a trendy diet plan or a 5 a.m. bootcamp to make meaningful progress—just a commitment to treating hydration as the first step of your day.

AI is being used to design custom proteins that help immune cells find and kill cancer
Scientists have used artificial intelligence to design custom proteins that act like a 'GPS' for the immune system, guiding T cells directly to cancer cells and helping them destroy tumors with remarkable precision. The new research, published Thursday(July 24) in the journal Science, demonstrates how generative AI can create tiny proteins that dramatically enhance the cancer-killing power of human immune cells. In lab tests, T cells outfitted with these proteins swiftly located and killed melanoma cells, a fast-spreading and often deadly form of skin cancer. The idea builds on successful techniques like CAR T-cell therapy but adds a major twist: Instead of relying on naturally occurring cell receptors, which can take months to isolate and test, the scientists used AI to design new proteins from scratch in just days. The use of AI tools Live Events To create the molecular guides, the researchers used three AI tools. First, a generative model called RFdiffusion was used to analyze the structure of a specific cancer target known as NY-ESO-1, a protein found on many tumor cells. Then, another model proposed amino acid sequences that would fold into the right shape to bind the target. A third model helped narrow tens of thousands of options down to just 44, which were tested in the lab. One design stood out, and it worked. The study builds on a wave of recent breakthroughs in computational biology, including technologies that led to the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for protein structure prediction. Earlier this year, Jenkins' team also developed AI-designed proteins for improved snakebite antivenoms. Clinical trials are still years away, and many questions remain about how the proteins will perform in the human body. But the researchers are optimistic.

Hemant cabinet nod to rename Atal clinics after Mother Teresa
Ranchi: The Hemant Soren-led cabinet on Thursday decided to rechristen all PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee Mohalla Clinics in the state as Mother Teresa Advanced Health Clinics, drawing sharp reactions from oppoisition from BJP . According to the state health department, currently, 140 PM Atal Mohalla Clinics are operational across the state. The clinics were first rolled out in 2019 during the BJP's tenure when Raghubar Das was the chief minister. Though the health department officials refused to comment on the renaming, they said the overhauled clinics would be upgraded with the efficacies enhanced along with advanced facilities at the mohalla level as part of the department's health services' overhaul plan across the state. Criticising the move, BJP accused the govt of playing "dirty politics", taking the name of legendary personalities to digress from the real issues plaguing the people of the state. Reacting to govt's decision to rename Atal clinics, BJP's spokesperson Ajay Sah said, "It is a testimony to the state govt's petty mentality and distorted political thinking. If it wants to honour Mother Teresa, it should start new schemes in her name. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Nvidia's AI Strategy Is Clear - But Is Wall Street Paying Attention?
