SINGAPORE – Several home-grown celebrities took to social media on Father's Day on June 15 to share their experience of fatherhood and their love for their fathers.
Singer Derrick Hoh's daughter Nori turns three in August.
He said the biggest thing that stood out for him is how parenthood brings out his insecurities.
'I catch myself questioning my parenting style almost every day. Not because I think I'm doing badly, but because I keep wondering about the kind of person I am today,' the 39-year-old wrote.
Hoh placed third in the men's category in reality singing competition Project SuperStar in 2005.
He added: 'Parenthood has made me more aware. Of my patterns. Of what I say, how I act, and what I carry,' he wrote. 'And I think if not for Nori, I might never have noticed these things at all.'
For former actor Chen Xi, son of celebrity couple Xiang Yun and Edmund Chen, his father is his kopi buddy, best friend, mentor and more. Xiang Yun and Edmund Chen also have a daughter, actress Chen Yixin, 25.
'Happy Father's Day to the man of the house @edmundchen.sg – the one who taught me what it truly means to show up for your family with love, strength and endless responsibility,' Chen Xi, 34, wrote. 'And of course, with an epic fashion sense is just a bonus.'
Edmund Chen, an illustrator and former actor, thanked his family for celebrating Father's Day with him.
'Thank you for celebrating Father's Day with a happy breakfast and a cosy lunch,' the 64-year-old wrote in Chinese. 'Thank you for sheltering me from the wind and rain.'
Home-grown actor Desmond Tan, who has a one-year-old daughter, celebrated Father's Day in black.
The 38-year-old shared photos and a short video of both himself and his daughter dressed in black.
'Happy (black heart emoji) day,' he wrote.
The actor, who recently starred in the TV series Devil Behind The Gate (2025), married his university sweetheart in 2021. They are expecting a second child, a boy.
There were also celebrities who remembered their late dads on Father's Day.
DJ-host Dennis Chew, whose father died in February, graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in May. 'Dad, I know that if you could, you would definitely have come to my graduation ceremony,' the 51-year-old wrote. 'So this photo is like fulfilling one of your wishes from heaven.'
The Love 972 DJ shared an edited photo of himself in a graduation gown together with his late father.
Actress Patricia Mok, whose father died in January, shared a photo of him with the caption: 'Missing him on this Father's Day.'
For actor Shaun Chen, his father, who was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Malaysia in March, was a 'superhero' to him.
The 46-year-old told Shin Min Daily News that his late father worked hard to raise him and his six siblings. He said his late father was a very optimistic person, and could still ride a motorcycle at the age of 84.

Channelling Hannibal Lecter, Anthony Hopkins roasts Kim Kardashian's ‘face shaper'

You know your product is 'sick' when Hannibal 'The Cannibal' Lecter himself gives it his seal of approval. US celebrity and influencer Kim Kardashian's multibillion-dollar company Skims recently rolled out a US$48 (S$61.80) piece of headgear that it claims will sculpt the face – scoop up the cheeks, neck and chin and hold them in place – as you sleep. It bears a close resemblance to a post-surgery compression garment, with its chin wrap and Velcro closures. Reactions to this 'shapewear' for the face have been swift, sharp and sweeping, so much so that award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins – who played prolific serial killer Hannibal Lecter in the movie The Silence Of The Lambs – has joined in on the fun. Many have compared the face wrap to the muzzle-like, brownish mask strapped around the head of Dr Lecter in a scene from the movie, in which a senator questions him about her missing daughter. Channelling that scene, Hopkins posted his 'review' of Kardashian's latest promotion. 'Hello, Kim. I'm already feeling 10 years younger,' Hopkins, speaking with Dr Lecter's indecipherable stare and metallic voice, says in the video, which has been viewed more than 37 million times. In the video's caption, Hopkins wrote, in a call-back to one of his memorable double entendres in the movie: 'Thank you, Kim. Don't be afraid to come over for dinner.' Kardashian's tongue-in-cheek response to Hopkins' video was: 'I'm screaming!!!!' Beyond this comedic tit-for-tat, the Kardashian headgear has set off a fierce debate about advertising and women's insecurities. Some have hailed it as the future of non-invasive facial sculpting, but others have accused Kardashian and her US$4 billion company of making claims not grounded in science and making women more insecure about their looks. Skims is trying to rebrand the face wrap, typically used after intensive cosmetic surgery, as a 'must-have' that can be used every day to 'shape and sculpt' the face. But medical professionals have questioned these claims. Dr Anna Andrienko, an aesthetic doctor specialising in cosmetic procedures, told the BBC that while these garments 'may offer some temporary sculpting or de-puffing effects due to pressure and heat retention', the results are far from permanent. 'These face wraps do not deliver lasting contouring or skin-tightening results,' she said. 'At best, they can reduce fluid retention short term. At worst, overuse may lead to skin irritation, breakouts or circulation issues if worn too tightly or for prolonged periods.' Casual observers say the product is contributing to 'bad self-esteem among young people'. It adds to the many questionable beauty trends that have had people scraping, pulling and pinching at their faces or taping over their lips at night just so they can feel good when they wake up in the morning, they say. 'What that says to me is that this pressure to look beautiful has become so consuming that there is not even a moment of our day – while we are sleeping – that has not been commodified for the project of becoming more beautiful,' said Ms Jessica DeFino, a beauty critic and writer of the Review Of Beauty newsletter.

'I quit': Zhao Lusi voices out alleged ill-treatment by management agency, Entertainment News

Chinese actress Zhao Lusi has voiced out alleged mistreatment by her management agency Galaxy Cool Entertainment. In a Weibo post on Aug 2, the 26-year-old claimed that the company had manipulated her into signing the withdrawal of 2.05 million yuan (S$366,400) from her personal studio's account. She wrote: "Because I was unwell, I was forced to cancel some brand endorsements to reduce the pressure from filming. You said you would be responsible for my illness, but I was the one who made monetary compensation in the end." This January, Lusi revealed she is suffering from depression after photos of her in a wheelchair at the accident and emergency department of a hospital circulating online sparked public concern. She also shared then that she was assaulted by an unnamed individual from her management company in 2019 for failing an audition. Some of Lusi's notable works are Love Like the Galaxy (2022), Hidden Love (2023) and The Story of the Pearl Girl (2024). Her upcoming drama includes Love's Ambition, which also stars Hong Kong actor William Chan. She was filming Chinese drama Almost Lover when her health condition worsened and filming was stopped indefinitely. Lusi added in her latest post that despite the compensation, there haven't been any discussions with her about reinstating her studio's operation. She wrote: "I had given 2.05 million yuan, but there's no outcome to the discussion, do I still continue to fork out money in the future? Despite multiple discussions, there's still no agreement about reinstating the studio's operation, how many staff are there left in the team? "I waited eight months for an outcome, and this is the outcome? Dissolving the drama production team is the outcome? ... My compensation is the outcome?" She claimed that she had tried to discuss with her company about terminating her contract, but someone there has allegedly been avoiding the conversation, telling Lusi to lie low as she could be cancelled in the industry. "I don't need you to blacklist me. I quit," she added. Lusi also included two medical reports in her post, with the clinical examinations for depression and anxiety putting her in the severe range. Lusi's agency 'silently withstanding immense pressure' Galaxy Cool Entertainment responded in a Weibo post yesterday (Aug 3) that they were "shocked" by Lusi's claims and that they have been communicating with her. The statement added: "We have never engaged in any illegal behaviour or breach of contract. Especially after Lusi's illness, out of consideration for her physical and mental well-being, our company has prioritised her wishes and actively coordinated all matters." They also wrote that they have been "silently withstanding immense pressure" to prevent negative impact and losses and that Lusi is welcomed to contact them for a resolution if she has any questions about their work. "We hope that Lusi will refrain from posting ambiguous content online that could mislead the public," they added. The agency has also reportedly unfollowed Lusi's personal Weibo account. 'Nothing is forever' Lusi subsequently reposted the statement claiming nobody in the company had attempted to contact her and that a staff member has been going around the industry claiming she is feigning her illness. Lusi also livestreamed on Douyin yesterday, where she assured fans multiple times that she is okay. She said: "There were many people who started spreading rumours, such as how I did this (made the posts) because I am ill... I just want to show everyone that I am undergoing treatment and don't want anyone to speculate about me... I am okay, I am very calm right now." She added she made those posts because she doesn't want to put up with how she was treated anymore. Lusi also said: "After years in this industry, not saying I've earned a lot of money, but I still have some savings. So don't worry about me. If I am really unable to continue [in showbiz], I am thinking of opening a small noodle business. It's really alright, nothing is forever."
