My Perfect Weekend with actor and artist Chen Xi

Chen Xi makes time to reflect after reading and enjoys sketching in his free time over the weekends. Who: Singaporean actor and artist Chen Xi, 34, is the son of celebrity acting couple Edmund Chen, 64, and Xiang Yun, 63. He has a younger sister, 25-year-old actress Chen Yixin. Chen Xi's acting credits include Mediacorp series like Fix My Life (2023), Soul Doctor (2022) and Nightwatchers (2021). He was also nominated in the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes category at the 2021 and 2023 Star Awards. He took a break from acting when he pursued a year-long arts and cultural management masters course at King's College London, which saw him graduating in January 2025, before returning to Singapore for good. On July 14, Chen married his 33-year-old Japanese girlfriend, who is known only as Mami. The couple will also be holding a traditional Japanese wedding ceremony in her home town of Kyushu. He is currently partnering local energy company Geneco on its Lost To Be Found mental health and wellness initiative, through six black-and-white illustrations and an infinite-loop video journey. The exhibition, at wellness centre Grovve in youth space *Scape, runs till Sept 30. I see it in three parts: time with family, time for self-interest, and time for introspection. I usually begin or end the day sharing a meal with my family, either breakfast or dinner, where we will catch up on the week. My comfort meal is simple: two soft-boiled eggs and kopi. I missed it terribly while I was in the UK, so now it feels extra special, especially when I share it with my dad. Around 1pm, I like to make myself a decaf oat latte, a skill I picked up while working in cafes in the UK. On weekends, I often teach urban sketching and watercolour at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, usually in the morning or early afternoon before it gets too hot. After class, I spend time creating content or sketching, often blending the two so it is both fun and efficient. I also try to sketch for myself, just something personal, to keep my creative fuel alive. Chen Xi enjoys sketching in his free time over the weekends. Evenings are for winding down, either with a book, some light gaming, or simply resting. Lately, I have also been catching up with my online friends. We have been trying to play badminton together, though I have discovered that booking a court in Singapore is a sport in itself. One of the most memorable weekends I had was a glamping trip with my wife in the outskirts of London. It was quiet, rural and simple, the kind of city detox I did not know I needed. Making a fire as the day turned to golden hour is one of those snapshots I will always carry with me.'

How to age well? Singaporean former actor in his 60s adopts a balanced, healthy lifestyle

An easy-going, family-first approach to life looks great on Singaporean actor-turned-illustrator Edmund Chen. Not only does he look much younger than his 63 years, he feels younger, too. Advertisement In his youth, he starred in a string of Singaporean television drama series such as Sunshine After Rain (1987), the sci-fi romantic comedy Star Maiden (1988) and the police action series Patrol (1989). It was on Patrol that he met co-star Xiang Yun – still a popular actress today – and the two were married within months. To stay in top shape for these roles and others in his 20s and 30s, he followed rigid diets and strict fitness routines, pushing himself hard physically. Being strict with himself as a young man helped Chen develop a sculpted body with well-defined abs – that he maintains to this day. The celebrities shared their experience of fatherhood and the love for their fathers. PHOTOS: DERRICKHOH/INSTAGRAM, THEDESMONDTAN/INSTAGRAM, DENNISZHOUCHONGQING/INSTAGRAM, SHAUNCHENHONGYU/INSTAGRAM SINGAPORE – Several home-grown celebrities took to social media on Father's Day on June 15 to share their experience of fatherhood and their love for their fathers. Singer Derrick Hoh's daughter Nori turns three in August. He said the biggest thing that stood out for him is how parenthood brings out his insecurities. 'I catch myself questioning my parenting style almost every day. Not because I think I'm doing badly, but because I keep wondering about the kind of person I am today,' the 39-year-old wrote. Hoh placed third in the men's category in reality singing competition Project SuperStar in 2005. He added: 'Parenthood has made me more aware. Of my patterns. Of what I say, how I act, and what I carry,' he wrote. 'And I think if not for Nori, I might never have noticed these things at all.' For former actor Chen Xi, son of celebrity couple Xiang Yun and Edmund Chen, his father is his kopi buddy, best friend, mentor and more. Xiang Yun and Edmund Chen also have a daughter, actress Chen Yixin, 25. 'Happy Father's Day to the man of the house @ – the one who taught me what it truly means to show up for your family with love, strength and endless responsibility,' Chen Xi, 34, wrote. 'And of course, with an epic fashion sense is just a bonus.' Edmund Chen, an illustrator and former actor, thanked his family for celebrating Father's Day with him. 'Thank you for celebrating Father's Day with a happy breakfast and a cosy lunch,' the 64-year-old wrote in Chinese. 'Thank you for sheltering me from the wind and rain.' Home-grown actor Desmond Tan, who has a one-year-old daughter, celebrated Father's Day in black. The 38-year-old shared photos and a short video of both himself and his daughter dressed in black. 'Happy (black heart emoji) day,' he wrote. The actor, who recently starred in the TV series Devil Behind The Gate (2025), married his university sweetheart in 2021. They are expecting a second child, a boy. There were also celebrities who remembered their late dads on Father's Day. DJ-host Dennis Chew, whose father died in February, graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in May. 'Dad, I know that if you could, you would definitely have come to my graduation ceremony,' the 51-year-old wrote. 'So this photo is like fulfilling one of your wishes from heaven.' The Love 972 DJ shared an edited photo of himself in a graduation gown together with his late father. Actress Patricia Mok, whose father died in January, shared a photo of him with the caption: 'Missing him on this Father's Day.' For actor Shaun Chen, his father, who was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Malaysia in March, was a 'superhero' to him. The 46-year-old told Shin Min Daily News that his late father worked hard to raise him and his six siblings. He said his late father was a very optimistic person, and could still ride a motorcycle at the age of 84. Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.
