Plane crash in Italy sees jet plunge from sky onto motorway killing two as cars drive through flames

The plane can be seen plummeting in a near-vertical descent before smashing into the tarmac and erupting into flames.
Terrifying footage has captured the moment a light aircraft nose-dived into a busy Italian road before exploding into a massive fireball, killing two people.

The horror crash unfolded just after midday on Tuesday in Brescia province when the 'ultralight' plane plunged out of the sky, narrowly missing dozens of cars on the Corda Molle, reports the Mirror.

In chilling video clips, the plane can be seen plummeting in a near-vertical descent before smashing into the tarmac and erupting into flames. Miraculously, no vehicles were struck, although two cars were engulfed by the fireball as it spread across the motorway.

Both drivers managed to keep control of their vehicles, with two motorists treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Traffic on the motorway was halted for hours as emergency crews raced to the scene, extinguishing the blaze and securing the area.
Victims of the crash have been named as 75-year-old Milanese lawyer Sergio Ravaglia and his partner Anna Maria De Stefano, 50, who were onboard the aircraft.
One shaken eyewitness, Enzo Bregoli, told Corriere della Sera: 'Suddenly, the pilot seemed to lose control. The ultralight spun around and fell straight down onto the road, nose-first. The moment it touched the asphalt, it immediately caught fire. If he had just tried to turn, it could have hit me.'
Another driver, Cladio Nolli, described the terrifying moment her car was swallowed by the inferno: 'I saw a burst of flame without understanding what had happened. I crashed into the truck in front of me, passing through the flames. Then there was a loud bang – it was a ball of fire. I never thought something like this could happen to me.'
Officials say determining the cause of the crash may prove difficult as 'ultralight' planes are not required to declare their destination before take-off. The aircraft had departed from Gagnano Trebbiense in the Piacenza region shortly before the accident.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is now underway.

Moment pilot arrested as police storm plane full of shocked passengers

Those onboard were left stunned after federal agents headed into the plane's cockpit just moments after it landed. This is the moment when police arrested a pilot over alleged child abuse images after storming a plane full of passengers. ‌ Those onboard were left stunned after federal agents headed into the Delta plane's cockpit just moments after it landed in San Francisco, California. ‌ As reported by the Mirror, the pilot was then arrested over alleged possession of child sex abuse images and later charged by several agencies, including Homeland Security and the Contra Cosa Sheriff's Office. ‌ The arrest took place on Delta Flight 2809 shortly after 9.30pm local time on Saturday. Earlier that day the flight left Minneapolis and had its landing delayed due to heavy fog around the airport. Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin said the pilot was arrested on charges over child sex abuse materials. First class passenger Sarah Christianson told The San Francisco Chronicle: "A group of people with badges, guns, and different agency vests/markings were pushing their way up through the aisle to the cockpit." ‌ Speaking to the outlet, she said that officers"stormed the cockpit, cuffed the co-pilot, arrested him, walked him down the aisle, and ushered him off the plane through the cabin doors located between first and coach." Ms Christianson said passengers were shocked and said the incident was "unnerving." ‌ Christianson said in another interview that she was reduced to tears following the ordeal. She added: "It was scary. It was traumatic to watch. As soon as my husband picked me up from baggage claim, I jumped in the car and cried. Because who knows what's happening to that poor person? Why that happened? What did we just see?" Officers remained on the plane to collect the pilots belongings as he was led away. He has not been identified. The Mirror has contacted the Contra Cosa Sheriff's Office for comment. A video showing the moment of the arrest was uploaded to X/Twitter and has been viewed hundreds of millions of times. ‌ A JetBlue pilot was arrested on board the plane earlier this year in a separate incident. Jeremy Gudorf, 33, had been due to fly the plane when a routine check of people onboard led to his detention. The warrant for his arrest came from North Carolina and Massachusetts State Police responded to a request to detain Gudorf from US Customs and Border Protection. US State Police have confirmed the arrest took place in February earlier this year.

EastEnders reveals who stole Kat's phone as Zoe's imminent return 'sealed'

EastEnders latest episode saw Kat Moon's phone stolen by a masked thief before she could listen to Alfie's voicemail message, and now Zoe Slater's return could be very soon There was a twist involving one of the Mitchells on EastEnders on Monday night. ‌ Kat Moon was just about to listen to her husband Alfie Moon's voicemail message, which she didn't know revealed all about the recent return of her daughter Zoe Slater, when she was mugged. A masked man on a bike sped past and grabbed the phone out of her hand. ‌ Later in the episode we learned the thief was none other than Harry Mitchell. He was shown playing around with a phone before chucking it in a bag in frustration. ‌ As he did this, the camera panned to the inside of the bag, with multiple phones shown. One of them had Kat and her young twin sons as a wallpaper, showing that it was Kat's mobile and Harry was the thief on the bike. But will he return the phone, and will Kat ever hear the voicemail? In the message, Alfie had wrongly believed Kat knew he was off finding Zoe after her abrupt return weeks ago. ‌ Zoe refused to see Kat and fled abroad, with Alfie soon heading off to try and bring her home. He was forced to tell Stacey Slater he'd lost her last week, after a trail ran cold following Stacey giving her money to Kat for the pub, instead of giving it to Alfie to pay off some men in the hope of locating Zoe. Both Stacey and Alfie have kept it all from Kat and instead, Stacey allowed Kat to think Alfie was helping her cousin Hayley and Alfie's daughter Cherry. So Alfie faced a race against time to get the phone and delete the voicemail to stop Kat learning the truth. But instead, Harry stole the phone which means the message will remain on there unless it deletes after a certain amount of time. So whether Harry returns the phone or she gets it back somehow all remains to be seen. ‌ Surely the message is a ticking time-bomb, as is the truth about Zoe. Will this phone theft and the message somehow trigger Zoe's comeback? After all, we know Zoe is returning to Walford very soon. Michelle Ryan, the actress who plays Zoe, has already begun filming summer scenes. With it very nearly August and her filming for weeks, it's safe to assume Zoe will be back in Albert Square, for the first time in two decades, very, very soon. ‌ Within a few weeks it's thought she will be back on the show, given the gap between filming and transmission. So something has to happen relatively soon that will trigger Zoe's Walford comeback - but will it be linked to Harry and the phone theft? Might he answer a call or listen to the message and realise the importance of Kat getting her phone back? Might Zoe make contact? Viewers will just have to tune in and see what happens next. He is then seen getting out of his vehicle and pouring what looks like water into potted flowers. He then proceeds to the pump and fills the five-litre cans with gasoline before leaving the station. Bursa Provincial Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Branch later identified the suspect and arrested him on suspicion of starting a wildfire in the country that has been burning for days. He is now being investigated as it is alleged he sparked a fire in the village of Kışmanlar. The suspect appeared to have burns on his arms and legs, and his phone was reportedly found burned in the woods by police. Aytekin, who has a history of numerous crimes and said he was kicked out of his home by his family, confessed to starting the fire in his initial statement, CNN Turkey reports. It comes as raging wildfires continue to rip through the country. Firefighters battled blazes across Turkey on Monday as the country sweltered in a summer heatwave, with wildfires leading to at least 14 deaths in the country in the past week. Around 20 villages have been evacuated, officials said. More than 3,500 people were forced to leave their homes. Shock moment beachgoers surrounded by smoke as raging wildfires in Italian hols hotspot Temperatures had already soared to a record high of 50.5 degrees Celsius in some parts of the country. The heatwave has fueled the forest fires on the dry ground that have spread rapidly in windy conditions. Authorities warned that a "risky week" lies ahead as temperatures continue to soar beyond record levels. Firefighters tackled blazes around Bursa in the northwest on Monday, the country's fourth-largest city and a major industrial centre, for the third consecutive day. Their efforts were hampered by strong winds fanning the flames, according to Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli. The flames have scorched 7,413 acres around the city so far, according to Bozbey. At least 84 fires have been recorded nationwide over the past 24 hours, with major blazes still active in Bursa, Karabuk, Usak and Kahramanmaras. In Karabuk, wildfires raging since Tuesday have forced the evacuation of 1,839 people from 19 villages. New wildfires broke out on Turkey's Mediterranean coast on Friday, as the government declared two western provinces in the country to be "disaster zones". East of Antalya, fires broke out in Adana and Mersin on Friday. 8 A wide-angle view shows smoke and flames rise as firefighting efforts continue after a forest fire Credit: Getty 8 People look at burning trees during a wildfire in western Bursa province Credit: Reuters Images showed flames and smoke billowing into the sky close to high-rise apartment buildings in Antalya, where local and foreign visitors flock during the summer months. Homes were evacuated in the city centre and the outlying district of Aksu as the fire advanced, news agency DHA reported. Firefighters struggled to extinguish the blazes before strong winds could spread the fire, which closed a major coastal road. Further along the coast, homes in the city of Manavgat were also threatened. Local residents with hoses and buckets rushed to assist firefighters as water-dropping helicopters and planes also battled the flames. Police water cannons and municipal water trucks were also enlisted in the firefighting efforts. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that the country faced "a truly great disaster" after 25,000 people got involved in the emergency effort. In a televised speech after a weekly cabinet meeting, he said 96 per cent of the fires were caused by human activity such as cigarette butts and picnic fires. There were also a few cases of sabotage, he said. 8 Flames rise from a forested area in the Gursu district Credit: GEtty
