Sports stars and influencers also paid their respects, as did an animal charity.
Music legend Elton John described Ozzy Osbourne as a "dear friend" tonight - as the showbiz world came to terms with the frontman's shock death.

Black Sabbath singer Ozzy, who suffered from Parkinson's disease, died just weeks after a phenomenal farewell gig at his beloved Villa Park in Birmingham.

And Sir Rod Stewart also took to social media while defiantly accepting his own journey towards the exit door, saying he and Ozzy will be reunited for a gig in the sky.

Singer-songwriter Sir Elton, 78, posted on Instagram: "So sad to hear the news of Ozzy Osbourne passing away. He was a dear friend and a huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods - a true legend.
"He was also one of the funniest people I've ever met. I will miss him dearly. To Sharon and the family, I send my condolences and love. Elton xx."

Crooner Sir Rod, 80, who recently performed at Glastonbury, also posted on Instagram. He said: "Bye, bye Ozzy. Sleep well, my friend. I'll see you up there - later rather than sooner."
Former boxing world champion Frank Bruno MBE wrote: "RIP Ozzy Osbourne. We met several times years ago. He called me "Big man" when he asked me if I liked Rock music.
"I said "Soul & Reggae was my thing". He said "Give me a day big man and you will love Rock music". A character, a funny man and a legend who we will not see the likes of ever again."

Flavor Flav posted pics of him and Ozzy and the Public Enemy rapper, who has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, told of his heartache at his compatriot's passing.
He wrote on X.com: "Real heart broken over the passing of Ozzy Osbourne. We go way back and it was a real honor to watch him get inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last year."

Alongside a throwback pic and a more recent snap of them together, he added: "Sending my love and prayers to Sharon and his kids and whole family. RIP."
The black and white picture, which showed them both making the peace sign, had been posted on Ozzy's official Facebook page - which has 12 million followers - back in 2017.

American music, politics and popular culture publication Rolling Stone referred to Ozzy as "the singular metal legend whose Black Sabbath virtually invented heavy metal and in later years became a reality TV pioneer".
Former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore Tweeted a picture of fans at Villa Park with an Ozzy display saying 'Up the Villa'. The post read: "Rest in peace, Ozzy."
Welsh YouTube prankster Ben Phillips said on Facebook: "It is heartbreaking to hear that the great Ozzy Osbourne has passed away at 76 years of age."

The social media star, who has more than 4.5million subscribers on the video platform, added: "Farewell Ozzy Osbourne: The Prince of Darkness Has Left Us – The End of an Era in Rock Music."
And Lisa Lange, Senior Vice President of animal charity PETA, said tonight: " Ozzy Osbourne was a legend and a provocateur, but PETA will remember the 'Prince of Darkness' most fondly for the gentle side he showed to animals.

"Most recently cats, by using his fame to decry painful, crippling declawing mutilations. Ozzy may have been the singer, but his wife, Sharon, and his daughter, Kelly, were of one voice when it meant protecting animals.
"Ozzy will be missed by animal advocates the world over." Ozzy famously bit the head off a live bat on stage during a gig - while performing at Des Moines, Iowa, in 1982 - believing it to be rubber after it had been thrown on stage.
Real name John Michael Osbourne, Ozzy released 22 studio albums between 1970 and 2022 - nine with Black Sabbath, and 13 solo albums, with the last in 2022.

Zak Starkey reveals biggest regret after turning down huge Ozzy Osbourne request

Drummer Zak Starkey has revealed he is still suffering with regret after turning Ozzy Osbourne down as he shared a personal message he received from Sharon Osbourne Zak Starkey has revealed his one lasting regret as he spoke out following the death of Ozzy Osbourne. The Black Sabbath icon died earlier this week, aged 76, with tributes pouring in from the world of music and beyond. ‌ Ozzy's beloved family announced the sad news on Tuesday, as they shared how the Prince of Darkness was 'surrounded by love' at the time of his death. Since then, Ozzy's friends, family, fans and fellow musicians have spoke out about the loss of the rock legend. ‌ Zak, who is The Beatles icon Ringo Starr's son, was among those taking to social media to share tributes to Ozzy. The drummer, who has played with the likes of The Who and Oasis, posted an email he had received from Ozzy's wife and manager Sharon Osbourne. ‌ She had reached out to Zak ahead of Black Sabbath's tour in 2013 and asked if he would join the band. Sharon's message read: "Zak, Black Sabbath is headlining Download on June 10 and then Lollapalooza in August. "The guys need a drummer for their album, which will be recorded in September with Rick Rubin producing. We would probably need you for 2-3 weeks for the album. Also, they need a drummer to play at Lollapalooza which is on August 3 in Chicago.' ‌ Sharon added a touch of humour as she joked: 'Also, Ozzy wants to have sex with you while he is singing 'Iron Man'. Big Kiss, Sharon." However, Zak revealed he turned down the offer due to other commitments with The Who. He performed with the band at the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony in London as well as their Quadrophenia and More tour, which spanned across 2012 and 2013. ‌ Opening up on how he feels about turning down Ozzy, Zak shared: "Regrets I've had a few – this is one – (not the sex part!). Ozzy will always be one of the greatest, natural, brilliant singers of all time. "I send much love and strength to his family at this sad, sad time. If u aren't familiar with the 'Never Say Die' record – get into it – it's so far out.' Ozzy played his epic farewell show in his hometown of Birmingham just over two weeks before his death. He was joined by huge stars across rock at his Back to the Beginning concert where he took to the stage as a solo artists and with Black Sabbath for one last time. ‌ It saw him raise "a ton of money" for charity as Guns N' Roses, KoRn, Tool, Slayer, Pantera, Metallica, Alice In Chains, Gojira, Anthrax and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler all performed. Ozzy's death was announced by his devastated family, with a statement telling fans: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. "He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis."

Wimbledon star worth millions wants to go on a date with a tennis fan – 'DM me'

Leylah Fernandez took to social media with a bold request, turning her attention to dating after a disappointing Wimbledon display by calling on her fans to ask her out Wimbledon star Leylah Fernandez is on the lookout for love and has invited one of her followers to 'shoot their shot' by asking her out on a date in Montreal. The Canadian tennis ace took to Instagram to share a video with her 349,000 followers, encouraging them to slide into her DMs as she tends to stay away from dating apps. ‌ The 22-year-old addressed them by writing: 'This will be fun, right? This isn't a joke. I fully intend to go on a date in Montreal so go ahead and DM me… time to shoot your shot. PS: you may have to meet my dad beforehand (good luck with that).' ‌ She elaborated on her bizarre 'competition' in a follow-up clip, saying: "In Montreal, I would like to go on a date. You know what I really want to do and that I haven't done is going on a date. I am not a big fan of dating apps. ‌ 'So, I actually am gonna do things my way. I am gonna go on one date for one hour in Montreal. If you wanna be my date, DM me, let me know about yourself. See you there!' Fernandez, who according to Forbes had earned $6.5million (£4.8m) last year as the 18th highest-paid female athlete, later offered an update after getting past rising Australian star Maya Joint in her opening round match at the Citi Open in Washington DC. "There've been a lot of responses,' said the former World No. 13. 'I think the first day, there were maybe over 100 messages. I've got a lot of options. My dad point blank asked me if I'd gone on a date yet, and I told him I hadn't. "I've never really had the time, and no one's really asked me, which, I don't know why! He suggested I post a video on Instagram and have a date in Montréal where you feel at home and you feel comfortable. "I got responses from other athletes, including ones I went to the Olympics with, and they told me, 'I know how you feel,' or, 'When I was 22, I hadn't gone on a date yet, either.' ‌ "At this age, we're all either studying or going to sports competitions, so reading those messages not only makes me feel better and like I'm not the odd one out, but it's also pretty cool that we're able to have those conversations together." The request comes just weeks after Fernandez's underwhelming performance at Wimbledon. The world No. 36 easily defeated Great Britain's Hannah Klugman with a 6-1 6-3 victory in the opening round, reports the Express. However, she suffered an unexpected second round exit after losing to Laura Siegemund in straight sets, 6-2 6-3. Fernandez also teamed up with New Zealand's Lulu Sun for the doubles event. ‌ But they too endured an early exit, losing in the first round to Demi Schuurs and Asia Muhammad, who themselves were eliminated in the next round. Fernandez has had a shaky few months, with early departures from the French Open and Wimbledon indicating that she's not currently playing at her best. However, she set up a round-of-16 clash with world No. 4 Jessica Pegula by beating Joint. The hard-court tournament could provide Fernandez with an opportunity to find her groove before she heads back to Montreal. And victory would certainly give her something to chat about with any potential date back in her home country.

England's unashamed icon: Chloe Kelly renews starring role at Euro 2025

It was Chloe Kelly's wedding anniversary on Thursday. We know this because she posted about it to her 1 million Instagram followers, because everyone saw her personalised shin pad adorned with her wedding photo, and because she joked last week that she still hadn't got her husband, Scott, a card. But then Kelly has always had a rare gift for catching the eye. Her shirt-waving celebration at Wembley remains the defining image of the Euro 2022 triumph. Her trademark headband renders her instantly recognisable in a squad full of above-average-height blond women. Her hop-skip penalty run-up is unique. In a profession where many are naturally wary of being seen to court attention, Kelly is luxuriantly comfortable with being the focus of your gaze. As her teammate Esme Morgan puts it: 'She just doesn't really care what people think.' Being England's unashamed icon and an effortless content generator comes with clear off-pitch benefits. Be real: who here can name the wedding date of any other Lioness? Who here can imitate a typical Lauren Hemp penalty run-up? How many Jess Park goal celebrations have you seen commemorated in a tattoo? But of course the benefits can be felt on the field too, and so far this month England have been merrily reaping them. There is a counterfactual history of England's Euro 2025 to be written in which Kelly does not post her astonishing social media tirade against Manchester City at the end of January. In which she does not get the move to Arsenal that rescues her career, does not win back her England place, does not rescue the quarter-final against Sweden or score the winning goal against Italy. And – quite frankly – it is a history in which England's players are watching Sunday's final from their sofas. Frozen out by Gareth Taylor at Manchester City, out of contract in the summer, handed one league start all season, Kelly was ready to walk away from the game. City were prepared to let her go on loan to Brighton. Kelly wanted to join Manchester United. City were unwilling to lose her to a rival. Result: deadlock. And with just hours remaining of the January transfer window, a deadlock Kelly realised she was going to have to break herself. 'While I can't control someone's negative behaviour towards me, I can control how long I am prepared to tolerate it,' Kelly wrote in an Instagram post very clearly self-penned. 'To be dictated whom I can and can't join with only four months left of the football season is having a huge impact on not only my career but my mental wellbeing. Our dreams can be crushed while we live in silence.' Kelly's outspokenness was immediately rewarded with a last-gasp move to Arsenal. And yet to burn her bridges with City so publicly was a decision fraught with risk, but also a measure of her need to dictate terms rather than have them dictated to her, to act rather than let things drift, to determine her own fate. After the Italy game, someone asked Kelly who had made her the person she is today. 'Myself,' she answered. But of course this will surprise nobody familiar with Kelly's game. Aged 20, she stunned Arsenal by leaving permanently for Everton, walking out on her first club and her home town in search of first-team football. In her first full season at Everton she played through an ankle injury as the club languished near the bottom of the WSL. It was, as she would later admit, 'selfish because I should have let someone else play who was 100%. But unselfish because I needed to help the team.' It was telling, too, that when she was dropped by Sarina Wiegman for the February internationals, she told the media she would 'fight to get my shirt back'. Not the shirt. My shirt. And even if Wiegman's decision was quickly reversed after an injury to Beth Mead, there was a brutal clarity there, a simple task with a simple outcome. Problem: you're not playing enough. Solution: start playing more. Bonus solution: win Champions League. Of course, before Sunday's final there will be significant pressure on Wiegman to find a place for Kelly – and her revelatory Arsenal teammate Michelle Agyemang – in the starting XI. 'Don't fix what isn't broken, it's working,' the former Lioness Rachel Daly said on her podcast on Wednesday, a statement that raised the question: is it really working? But Daly did also make a good point about the value of players who can change a game late on, when legs are tiring and the stakes are at their terrifying highest. Sign up to Moving the Goalposts No topic is too small or too big for us to cover as we deliver a twice-weekly roundup of the wonderful world of women's football after newsletter promotion And perhaps Kelly's particular skills – pinpoint crosses into the area, quick feet, dead-ball deliveries, a burst of pace, a powerful shot, the ability to ride challenges – are particularly suited to the later stages of games. She grew up playing in the five-a-side cages of west London, a true street footballer. 'She seems to thrive on those moments when the team needs her,' Morgan says. They call themselves the 'finishers', the 'positive clique', complete with finger-clicking celebration and even their own WhatsApp group. And whatever situation England find themselves in on Sunday, they will need Kelly, just as they will need Agyemang, Aggie Beever-Jones, Grace Clinton. It is why Wiegman spends so much time working with the fringe players, why the starters often make a point of staying out after training to support them while they do their extra fitness work. At the start of this year, you would have got pretty long odds on Kelly playing a starring role this summer. But of course Kelly has previous here too. Three years ago she missed almost an entire season with a cruciate ligament injury, and didn't take the field again until April. We all know how that summer ended. Kelly knows better than most than it's not how you start. It's how you finish.
