Thiruvananthapuram: Fort police arrested a 25-year-old man with 500g of ganja while he was trying to sell it in small packets at a residential area near Konchiravila on Thursday evening.
Local residents noticed his presence in the locality for the past couple of days and alerted the police about his suspicious activities. When the police reached the spot, the accused tried to escape by jumping over a wall. However, the police team chased and arrested him.
Police identified the arrested person as Murshid, 25, of ARA 11th Lane at Ambalathara. The accused was remanded after being produced before a court on charges under Section 20 (B) II A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act-1985.
Police said the accused used to buy ganja in bulk from Andhra Pradesh and brought it here for sale. "This is the first time the accused was arrested in a drug case, but he admitted to the police that he was into drug peddling for the past couple of years. The mobile phone of the accused was seized to check his call details and chat history. A detailed probe will be conducted to unfurl the other links in the drug racket," added the police.

ASR police seize ₹17 lakh worth properties of ganja smuggler

The Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) District police on Friday seized properties worth ₹17 lakh of Perumal Srinu which were funded through ganja smuggling, said Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar on Friday (August 1, 2025). In a press release issued here on Friday, Mr. Bardar said that Mr. Perumal Srinu had acquired properties worth approximately ₹17,11,805 using proceeds from smuggling operations across ASR, Vizianagaram districts in Andhra, Odisha, and Dammapeta in Telangana. These properties were registered in the names of his wife and relatives in an attempt to conceal their illicit origin, the SP added. Following a detailed financial investigation, the police initiated legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Seizure and freezing orders have been issued under Section 68F of the Act to prevent the transfer or disposal of these tainted assets, he said. Mr. Bardar also reiterated the department's zero-tolerance approach toward drug-related offences. He urged the public to verify the legal status of any property before purchase, warning that assets acquired through criminal means are subject to seizure under the law.

Gang held with MDMA while travelling with children to evade police

Thiruvananthapuram: Four persons, who were travelling in a car with three children to evade police checking, were arrested with 500gm of MDMA worth Rs 40 lakh in an operation conducted by district anti-narcotics special action force (Dansaf) team on Wednesday evening at Kovalam Junction. The accused were transporting the drug from Bengaluru. Based on a tip-off, the Dansaf team intercepted the car. They initially claimed that they were returning from Kanyakumari after a trip. However, during examination, police seized the drug from the car. According to police, the children, who are under the age of 10, belong to the woman who was part of the gang. The Dansaf team later handed over the children to Childline officials. The accused would also be charged under a section of Juvenile Justice Act for using the children to smuggle the drug, the police said. The arrested men were identified by police as Syam, 35, of Vattiyoorkavu, Sanjay, 26, of Rajaji Nagar and Muhammed Noufal, 23, of Aryanad. The arrested woman's husband is working in the Gulf region. The three men are accused in several other NDPS cases as well. Kovalam police registered a case under sections 22 (b), 20 (B) IIA and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act-1985.

Kompally drug bust: Court rejects bail pleas of intel officer's son, key accused

Hyderabad: A Ranga Reddy district court has rejected the bail petitions of senior intelligence officer's son, Rahul Teja, and the prime accused, Annamaneni Surya, in the Kompally drug bust case. Teja, while seeking bail, claimed innocence and argued that he was falsely implicated in the case solely because of his familial relation to Surya. According to the court order in Surya's bail plea, authorities from the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) alleged that Surya, along with other accused, pooled money to purchase narcotic substances such as cocaine, LSD, and ecstasy, with the intent to distribute them to consumers. Surya's arrest led to the seizure of 10 grams of cocaine, OG ganja, and ecstasy pills. Notably, the drugs were found hidden inside packaged women's footwear. Teja's bail was also rejected, with the court observing that he is a repeat offender. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Your Current Make-Up Routine Might Be Aging You Learn More Undo EAGLE sleuths informed the court that Teja was previously booked under the NDPS Act by the Dichpally police in Nizamabad district in 2024. D uring the hearing, Teja's counsel argued that no contraband was recovered from his possession and that his implication was based solely on Surya's confession, allegedly due to their familial relationship. However, the court, after hearing both sides, refused to grant bail. In contrast, the court granted conditional bail to two other accused—Surabhi Jaswanth and D Pavan Kumar—citing a previous high court order under which co-accused Yashwanth Ramana and Navadeep Reddy were released on bail. Meanwhile, the bail applications of two other accused, including P Mohan, son of a DCP-rank officer, and C Harsha, are still under consideration by the Rangareddy district court.
