Thiruvananthapuram: A 23-year-old man was arrested with ganja and several sedative tablets during a routine patrol at Maruthoorkadavu on Saturday night. The arrested person was identified by police as Anandhu, 23, of Snehapuri at Pappanamcode. Police said that a patrolling team saw the accused standing near a transformer at Maruthoorkadavu bridge. Seeing police, the accused tried to escape from there, but he was stopped by officers. As he gave contradictory answers to the officers' questions, they checked him and found over 20 tablets, including nitrazepam, and 10g of ganja in his pocket. The accused was remanded after being produced before a court on charges under sections 22 and 20 (b) (ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act-1985. "He was addicted to the drugs and was also involved in its sale. He was waiting for some customers when the team took him into custody. The call details of the accused will be examined to find the other links in the network," said police. TNN

Thiruvananthapuram: In a joint inspection conducted by the Dansaf team and Neyyattinkara police on Monday, a doctor and his friend were arrested with MDMA and a packet of ganja upon their arrival at Neyyattinkara from Bengaluru. The inspection was conducted based on a tip-off and the accused admitted to police that they were using and selling drugs for the last couple of years. The arrested persons were identified as Sudhev S P Nair, 34, of Neyyattinkara and Manoj P, 39, of Athiyannoor. The team seized 1g of MDMA and over 10g of ganja from the duo. The accused were remanded after being produced before a court on charges under Sections 22 (b), 20 (B) IIA and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act-1985. "After completing engineering, Sudhev went for MBBS in Bengaluru and it was recently that he passed out. He started using drugs while studying there and became addicted to it. Later, the sale of the drug was considered a way to make money. Manoj was his classmate in school and was a daily wage worker. Manoj is also a drug user and a part of Sudhev's drug business," police said. The mobile phones of the accused and a stethoscope were seized from them. "The call details and chat history of the accused will be examined to find out other links in the drug racket," police added.

T'puram: Mannanthala police seized eight spent bullet casings and drugs from a person residing at Parottukonam during a raid at his house on Wednesday night. Police identified the arrested person as Nithin S, 32. Police conducted the raid based on an information shared by district anti-narcotics special action force team that he was in possession of the drugs. During the raid, the police seized the bullet casings along with 218g of ganja and 44 nitrazepam tablets (8 g). The casings were sent to the forensic science laboratory for a detailed examination. Since the drugs seized were below commercial quantity, the accused was granted bail when produced before a court on charges under Section 20 (B) IIA and 22 (a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act-1985. "During questioning, he claimed that he collected the casings from under a tree at Kullu, during a trip. It was not believable. Once we receive the forensic report, we will register a new FIR," said police. Nithin was involved in several other NDPS cases and also hurt cases, police added.

Thiruvananthapuram: Thumba police arrested two individuals, who were identified as key links of a drug racket, with MDMA during a raid at a hotel in Attipra on Sunday. Police identified the arrested individuals as Ananthu, 29, of Panayil Veedu at Pangappara and Arya, 27, of Anjima Bhavan at Chadayamangalam. According to police, they stayed at various hotels across the state and sold drugs supplied to them from Bengaluru by others who are part of the racket. Police seized 10g of MDMA stored in several small packets that were concealed in the woman's hair during the raid. The duo had been staying at the hotel in Attipra for the past two days and the hotel staff, who became suspicious of the frequent visits of young men and women to their room, alerted the police. The accused were remanded after being produced before a court on charges under Section 22 (c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act-1985. "We have seized their mobile phones and the call details, chat history, etc., are being examined to find the other links in the racket. The racket brings drugs in huge quantities from Bengaluru for sale here. The accused will be taken into custody for detailed interrogation. Thiruvananthapuram: Fort police arrested a 25-year-old man with 500g of ganja while he was trying to sell it in small packets at a residential area near Konchiravila on Thursday evening. Local residents noticed his presence in the locality for the past couple of days and alerted the police about his suspicious activities. When the police reached the spot, the accused tried to escape by jumping over a wall. However, the police team chased and arrested him. Police identified the arrested person as Murshid, 25, of ARA 11th Lane at Ambalathara. The accused was remanded after being produced before a court on charges under Section 20 (B) II A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act-1985. Police said the accused used to buy ganja in bulk from Andhra Pradesh and brought it here for sale. "This is the first time the accused was arrested in a drug case, but he admitted to the police that he was into drug peddling for the past couple of years. The mobile phone of the accused was seized to check his call details and chat history. A detailed probe will be conducted to unfurl the other links in the drug racket," added the police.
