Rajeev Shukla likely to become acting BCCI president in July: Sources

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 2 (ANI): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President Rajeev Shukla is likely to become the acting president of the board in July after the current president Roger Binny, touches the age of 70 on July 19 this year, as per sources.
65-year-old Shukla will first get the acting president role for three months. With the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September, the month he would turn 66, he could stand for the post of full-time president in the elections, added the sources.
Roger was elected as the 36th president of BCCI in October 2022, replacing ex-Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, who completed his three-year tenure. Notably, Binny was the only candidate to have filed a nomination for the top post.
During his presidency, India won two white-ball titles, the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He also introduced the Women's Premier League (WPL), a women's franchise cricket league on the lines of highly-successful IPL. It was during his presidency that several steps related to proper strengthening and prioritising domestic cricket with help of better incentives, pay and having seniors participate in domestic tournaments took place.
Binny, a bowling all-rounder, has represented India in 27 test matches and 72 ODIs. He took 47 wickets in Tests and scored 830 runs with five half-centuries. In 72 ODIs, he took 77 wickets and scored 629 runs with a half-century. The right-arm pacer bagged 47 wickets in tests while also picking 77 in ODIs.
He was a crucial contributor to India's first-ever World Cup victory, being the highest wicket-taker for India in the 1983 World Cup with 18 wickets.

Rew, who hit 16 fours and six sixes in his masterly innings, fell in the 40th over off the bowling of Henil Patel and that led to a batting collapse as England were reduced to 254 for 8 by the 46th over. England needed 20 runs from three overs and 12 from two but they had just two wickets in hand. Alex Green (12) fell in the first ball of the penultimate over, the third victim for Ambrish, and England needed seven runs from the final over with the last pair at the crease. England eventually crossed the line with Morgan hitting a four off the third ball of the final over bowled by Yudhajit Guha. Earlier, asked to bat first, opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi (45), Vihaan Malhotra (49), Rahul Kumar (47), Kanishk Chouhan (45) and Abhigyan Kundu (32) made useful contribution to take India to 290 from 49 overs. This was after opener and captain Ayush Mhatre was dismissed for a duck off the first ball of the innings. However, India recovered from that jolt with the other top and middle-order batters coming good. Suryavanshi was among the runs for the second time as he had also made 48 in India's comprehensive win in the first match. For England, AM French was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/71 from his 10 overs while Jack Home (3/63) and Alex Green (3/50) were among the wickets. The home side conceded 32 extras, including 26 wides. Global players' union: Weather issues cloud Club World Cup
Players are contacting the international players' union to voice growing concern over matches played when maximum temperature allowances are exceeded during the Club World Cup, FIFPRO said Monday. HT Image The global players' union argued intense heat should have resulted in the postponement of matches between Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid and between Chelsea-Esperance because gametime temperatures rose above the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) of 28 degrees. FIFA's guidelines mark 32 degrees as the recommended limit. Dr. Vincent Gouttebarge, the medical director for the union, said the factor is readily prevalent in midday games during the summertime, and is a concern again this week and into the 2026 World Cup. "Obviously we have a threshold where the game should be postponed and rescheduled," Gouttebarge said. "The answer is quite straightforward, of course. The threshold? It is a WBGT of 28 degrees. According to our position, these games should have been postponed to a better place in the day and, if not available (to be played later), then rescheduled." PSG midfield Vitinha scored the second goal of the club's win in Pasadena, when temperatures at the Rose Bowl hit a sweltering 90 degrees (over 32 degrees Celsius). "We felt really good, even in these kinds of conditions. It is really hot," Vitinha said post-match. Doeschate confirms Bumrah's
Birmingham [UK], June 30 (ANI): India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is 'available' for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, but it is yet to be decided whether he would feature in the final XI, considering his limited utilisation for the five-match series. After the conclusion of the series opener, head coach Gautam Gambhir declared that the management would not budge on Bumrah's three-match utilisation. There were recommendations from fans and former cricketers to use Bumrah in all five Tests, but Gambhir quickly turned down the suggestion, claiming they were more concerned about his workload. Numerous reports have suggested that India won't line up without Bumrah for the second Test. Doeschate addressed the concerns about Bumrah and declared that he is 'available' but the management is yet to make a call on whether to send him to the on-field action or not. 'Yeah, he's available for the game, obviously. We know from the start he's only going to play three out of the five. He's obviously had eight days to recover from the last Test. But given conditions and workload and how we think we can best manage for the next four games, we haven't made a call on that. We're going to see what the other guys are with their workload as well. So technically, yes, he's available. But we haven't made a decision on whether he's going to play or not yet,' Doeschate told reporters in a press conference. India lined up with its pace spearhead, Bumrah, in the series opener at Headingley but still ended on the wrong side of the result. He dazzled in the first innings with figures of 5/83 but lost his magic and returned wicketless in the second. With Bumrah's threat vanished into thin air, England trounced India by gunning down a 371-run target, their second-highest successful chase in the format. With the crafty quick available for two Tests out of four, Doeschate affirmed that they have to evaluate which surface would be optimum to get the best out of the 31-year-old. 'With Bumrah, he is ready to play. So, like I said in the very first question, it's how we manage these four tests. So if we feel like there's value in playing him in this Test, we'll make that call at the very last minute. But I'm talking about whether, how the pitch is going to play. Are we better off holding him back for Lord's and maybe Manchester or the Oval? So it's all those factors,' he said. Bumrah returned to the nets on Saturday during the optional training session. The final call will be taken by India, considering how good Bumrah feels about his body going into the Test. 'But you've seen him train yesterday. He trained a little bit today. It's not like he's not fit to play. It's just trying to fit those puzzle pieces to get the most out of him, out of what we know we do have from him,' he added.
