Kayden Minear makes Pro Motocross debut in Thunder Valley, qualifies 12th
That strong run encouraged Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing to give the Australian rider an opportunity to race against the professionals.
'We talked about it for a while, but [last week's results] signified how good I'm riding at the moment and that gave them a little kick in the butt to get me up into the pro ranks,' Minear told NBC Sports during Friday's Media sessions. 'I know [the field is] deep, but I ride with the pros every week. I know what I'm capable of.'
Minear will ride this weekend in Thunder Valley and next week at High Point Raceway in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania, before switching gear in preparation for the Loretta Lynn's Amateur Nationals. Depending on his results in these rounds, fans may see him on the bike again at the end of the Pro Motocross season.
Minear was 19th overall in the first qualification session and improved in Q2 to land 12th overall on the chart.

Canadian Summer McIntosh won the 400m freestyle to open her bid to win a record-tying five individual gold medals at the World Swimming Championships. McIntosh, an 18-year-old who bagged three golds at the 2024 Olympics, clocked 3 minutes, 56.26 seconds, beating China's Li Bingjie by a comfortable 1.95 seconds. American Katie Ledecky took bronze. Earlier Sunday, German Lukas Martens took the men's 400m free by two hundredths over Australian Sam Short in 3:42.35. Martens, the Paris Olympic gold medalist, broke the world record in the event in April, clocking 3:39.96. He took down the longest-standing individual world record set by fellow German Paul Biedermann in 2009. In Sunday's preliminary heats session, Americans Torri Huske and Claire Weinstein scratched out of the 100m butterfly and 400m freestyle, respectively. Huske, the Olympic 100m fly gold medalist, withdrew from the event to prioritize the 4x100m free relay, according to USA Swimming. She can still race the 50m and 100m frees later in the meet, plus more relays. Huske was among the U.S. swimmers who became sick at a pre-worlds training camp in Thailand. A majority of U.S. swimmers were affected to varying degrees by acute gastroenteritis, or a stomach bug. Weinstein also made the team in the 200m and 800m frees. WASHINGTON (AP) — Alejandro Davidovich Fokina broke big-serving Ben Shelton a half-dozen times and eliminated the No. 4 seed by a 6-2, 7-5 score in the D.C. Open semifinals Saturday to follow up his upset of No. 1 seed Taylor Fritz a night earlier. The 12th-seeded Davidovich Fokina, a 26-year-old from Spain, will face No. 7 seed Alex de Minaur on Sunday for the title at the hard-court tournament. De Minaur advanced to his second Washington final by beating Corentin Moutet 6-4, 6-3. Davidovich Fokina will be seeking his first ATP trophy in his fourth career final. No matter the outcome, he has guaranteed himself a debut in the top 20 of the rankings after arriving in D.C. at No. 26. The semifinal win was de Minaur's 20th victory on a hard court in 2025, the most on the ATP tour. The Australian, who is 13th in the rankings, moved into his 19th career final; he's 9-9 so far.
