Kayden Minear makes Pro Motocross debut in Thunder Valley, qualifies 12th
LAKEWOOD, Colorado: Kayden Minear swept the motos of the SMX Next division last week at Hangtown Motocross Park in Rancho Cordova, California, and with his perfect score of two points, bettered the result of the riders in second, Landen Gibson, and third, Leum Oehlhof, by an even larger margin. That strong run encouraged Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing to give the Australian rider an opportunity to race against the professionals. 'We talked about it for a while, but [last week's results] signified how good I'm riding at the moment and that gave them a little kick in the butt to get me up into the pro ranks,' Minear told NBC Sports during Friday's Media sessions. 'I know [the field is] deep, but I ride with the pros every week. I know what I'm capable of.' Minear will ride this weekend in Thunder Valley and next week at High Point Raceway in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania, before switching gear in preparation for the Loretta Lynn's Amateur Nationals. Depending on his results in these rounds, fans may see him on the bike again at the end of the Pro Motocross season. Minear was 19th overall in the first qualification session and improved in Q2 to land 12th overall on the chart. 2025 Thunder Valley Motocross 250 Qualification: Chance Hymas tops Haiden Deegan in Q1
LAKEWOOD, Colorado: Chance Hymas (2:19.406) has shown bursts of speed in the first two rounds and he's fast again in Round 3 at Thunder Valley Motocross Park Qualification 1. The real story is whether he can avoid mistakes in the motos. Haiden Deegan (2:20.603) was 1.2 seconds slower in the runner-up position. Ty Masterpool (2:23.045) was another 2.4 seconds behind in third as the riders try to figure out the new configuration and conditions. Fourth-place Jo Shimoda (2:25.258) and Garrett Marchbanks (2:25.908) rounded out the top five. 2025 Thunder Valley Motocross 450 Qualification: Eli Tomac fastest in Q1
LAKEWOOD, Colorado: Heavy rain on Thursday and persistent moisture on Friday kept riders off track until Saturday morning and with NBC providing live coverage that flipped the 450 and 250 divisions, the premiere class was first to test out the course. Eli Tomac was 1.5 seconds faster than Jett Lawrence in the first qualification session but rapidly changing track conditions should allow Jett Lawrence to close the distance. Justin Cooper confirmed his recent strength with the third fastest time in this session. Aaron Plessinger looks to keep his top-five moto streak alive and he landed fourth. RJ Hampshire rounded out the top five. Women's Pro Motocross (WMX) Round 3 moved to Saturday in Thunder Valley, broadcast on Peacock
LAKEWOOD, Colorado: Heavy rain on Thursday and persistent moisture throughout Friday forced the movement of Round 3 of the Women's Pro Motocross (WMX) series to Saturday. The round will be shortened to one moto, which will follow the men's program. The silver lining to the rain showers is that Peacock decided to broadcast the moto live, immediately following the 250 Class Moto 2, which was to be the final race of the afternoon. To accommodate live network coverage on NBC, the order of the men's program was reorganized to allow the 450 division to ride first. The WMX program will include one practice session of 10 minutes following the consultation races at approximately 1:55 p.m. ET. Staging for the single moto will occur at 6:30 p.m. ET with the gate drop scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. The moto will be 15 minutes, plus one lap. 'Without having the rain delay and cancelation [of Friday's sessions], I don't know that [the debut on Peacock] would have happened this year,' WMX coordinator Christina Denny told NBC Sports. 'I'm so happy that MX Sports, Bondo [lead producer Chris Bond], Peacock, and NBC Sports are going to give us this opportunity.' Thunder Valley Motocross Park reconfigured some of the turns for the 2025 Nationals, leaving those sections of the track particularly vulnerable to developing heavy ruts, so the decision to cancel all on-track activity was made to preserve the course. After sweeping Round 2 at Hangtown Motocross Park last week, Lachlan Turner holds a six-point lead over Round 1 winner Mikayla Nielsen. 'It's pretty cool to be on TV,' Turner said. 'I can watch it later.'
