Ozzy Osbourne's 'made it' message as Black Sabbath prepare for final show

Daily Mirrora day ago
Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne and a host of megastars are gearing up for a supershow on Saturday
Ozzy Osbourne beamed for the camera as he posed for a powerful snap ahead of the Black Sabbath concert at Villa Park on July 5. In a collaboration post between Aston Villa Football Club and Ozzy, the Prince of Darkness posed with a host of rock and metal stars ahead of the superconcert.
The musician, Bill Ward, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler will be joined by the world's best heavy metal bands for the July 5 show before Ozzy retires from performing. The caption of the Instagram post read: "'It's taken us 57 years to get to the Villa, we made it. Back to the Beginning' - Ozzy Osbourne."

Black Sabbath performed a farewell tour from 2016 to 2017, with all the founding members minus Bill going on tour. Last year, Ozzy took to his The Madhouse Chronicles podcast to admit the band's career felt "unfinished" as they didn't tour with Bill.
He wanted a proper original lineup reunion, with all the band members sharing their interest in the idea. The huge comeback was finally revealed in the Back To The Beginning's announcement earlier this year.
Ozzy first retired from live singing in 2023 because of his numerous surgeries and his Parkinson's Disease.
'As you may all know, four years ago, this month, I had a major accident, where I damaged my spine,' he said on social media. 'My one and only purpose during this time has been to get back on stage.
'My singing voice is fine. However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy sessions, and most recently, groundbreaking Cybernics (HAL) Treatment, my body is still physically weak.'

Along with Black Sabbath, the Back To The Beginning supershow will include sets from Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Slayer, Tool, Gojira, Anthrax, Lamb Of God, Halestorm, Mastodon and Rival Sons.
An all-star super-group will be playing, with The Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan, Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello, Megadeth's David Ellefson, and Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst taking to the stage.
The event will be hosted and compered by Game Of Thrones icon Jason Momoa. Sharon Osbourne recently said of the show: "Then you're going to see one icon playing with another icon, doing a Sabbath song and one or two of their own songs, and people playing with each other that you never you'd see.

"Tom Morello is going to play with the drummer from Tool and they're going to have Billy Corgan with them. Then you'll see Slash and Duff and whoever they choose to play with.
"David Draiman is going to come up and sing, Jonathan from Korn is going to be here and he could be playing with Chad Smith or whoever!'

Escape to the Chateau's Angel Strawbridge on feeling 'isolated' after first child's birth Angel Strawbridge has candidly opened up about her experience of motherhood. Angel and Dick did not fit in with the 'chateau set' (Image: ITV ) Angel Strawbridge, famed for the Channel 4 show Escape to the Chateau with her husband Dick Strawbridge, previously opened up about experiencing isolation after the birth of her first child. In a frank discussion, Angel also revealed her initial discomfort with her French neighbours following their move abroad. The couple caught the public's attention through their adventures refurbishing the Chateau de La Motte Husson in France. ‌ Dick, who had two grown-up children prior to his marriage to Angel in 2015, extended his family with the birth of their two children, Arthur, aged 12, and Dorothy, now 11. ‌ On the Sweat, Snot and Tears parenting podcast, Angel got personal about the solitude she felt becoming a mother to her son Arthur. Chatting with hosts Annie and Wendy, she reflected on life's upheavals, particularly those that occur when starting a family. Upon being probed about significant shifts in her life, Angel addressed the emotions she grappled with during her initial foray into motherhood. Because then I just was like: right, your whole life changes completely." Angel further articulated how bearing a child had altered her outlook, fundamentally shifting her mindset by the time they took the monumental step of relocating to France. "By the time I moved to France I was in a different mental state from before I had children," she divulged. ‌ "I was ready. And I think that's the big thing. I think if you're gonna do a move to somewhere like this, you really have to be ready for it." The celebrity also mentioned how relocating had impacted her social life, though she acknowledged some of this was due to the Coronavirus pandemic, reports Devon Live. Dick and Angel Strawbridge have a huge fanbase (Image: Instagram/Escape to the Chateau ) ‌ Identifying herself as a "social butterfly", she admitted that while her children had adapted well to the French school system, she felt out of place among the upscale group of neighbours she privately dubbed the "Chateau Set". "I felt really uncomfortable, it was weird," she mused. Angel concluded by saying that she and Dick were in agreement that attending the extravagant dinner parties hosted by their affluent neighbours just wasn't for them. ‌ Angel and Dick's paths crossed later in life when they met through a shared television agent in 2010, leading to their marriage in November 2015. Escape to the Chateau was a huge hit for Channel 4 (Image: Instagram/Escape to the Chateau ) Since tying the knot, they've gained international acclaim for their restoration escapades, with Escape to the Chateau and its spin-offs becoming huge hits for Channel 4. ‌ Nevertheless, the show was cancelled two years ago amid reports of a falling-out between the couple and Channel 4 producers. In the meantime, the duo has been keeping their followers informed about their ongoing ventures and travels via social media. Sweat, Snot & Tears is a parenting podcast produced by Netmums. Canadian tourist slams 'not worth the trip' UK city but Brits hit back

A Canadian woman who is travelling around the UK and trying to keep costs down has shared her thoughts on one city in England - and says it's 'not worth the trip' Kamilla Szpakowski, a Canadian digital creator, has been exploring the UK on a shoestring budget and documenting her journey on Instagram under @ The 23-year-old has spent five months last year dedicated to " low budget travel" and sharing her insights with her followers. During her travels across the UK, Kamilla encountered one city that she found charming but ultimately wouldn't recommend to fellow budget travellers. Despite its picturesque architecture, ghostly tales, and amiable residents, York didn't make the cut for her. In an Instagram video, Kamilla questioned her audience: "Would you believe me if I told you this cute little city was not worth the trip?" She expressed disappointment in the city's affordability. ‌ READ MORE: Kickers' 'durable' Back to School shoe range that 'last all year' Kamilla pointed out that while York may be delightful and photogenic, it doesn't cater well to those watching their wallets. "Although York is super cute and picture-perfect it is not for the budget traveller," she remarked, reports the Express. ‌ She shared her frustration about the unexpected costs, saying, "When I was doing my research on things to see [and] do in York I already knew there weren't going to be many places we could go in and enjoy but I was not expecting for places like the York Art Gallery to be advertised as free to actually cost £7 when I got there." Though Kamilla initially believed York Art Gallery was free of charge, a quick check on their official website reveals that entry fees apply: £7 for adults, £4.20 for kids aged five to 16, and a discounted rate of £6.40 for those aged 17 to 24 or with a student card. However, there are some who can enjoy the gallery at no cost, including local children under 16, Art Fund members, Friends of York Art Gallery, and various other concessions detailed on the gallery's website. Kamilla remarked: "The York Minster is beautiful from the outside but unfortunately costs £18 to enter which I think is just way too much. The food was also very expensive. The burger I got was £11 with no fries!" Despite encountering some pricey attractions, the travel blogger found joy in several complimentary experiences. Among these were visits to the iconic Shambles, said to be the inspiration behind Harry Potter's Diagon Alley, and the local market. She also admired the stunning architecture of York Minster and Clifford's Tower from the exterior. Kamilla enjoyed a leisurely walk along the historic York City Walls, spanning 3.4km of ancient masonry, and meandered through the scenic Museum Gardens.

Black Sabbath at Villa Park review: moving reunion as Ozzy rocks out

Never mind those over-hyped Oasis gigs, there was only one truly historic rock comeback show over the weekend as Birmingham's Villa Park football stadium hosted Back to the Beginning, an all-star heavy rock gathering that reunited the full original line-up of the local heroes Black Sabbath for the first time in 20 years, and the last time ever. This sold-out, all-day charity benefit event was essentially the retirement party for the band's 76-year-old singer and international treasure Ozzy Osbourne, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2019, and now has limited mobility. It is no exaggeration to call Black Sabbath the Beatles of heavy metal, their hugely influential legacy reflected in the multigenerational cast list of superstar head-bangers who came to pay tribute at Villa Park, all working for free. Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Anthrax, Slayer, Alice in Chains and many others performed short sets of about 20 to 30 minutes, each including at least one Sabbath or Ozzy song. • The best concerts in London and the UK to book in 2025 Not every set was a killer, but credit is due to Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, the only woman on the bill, for rocking harder than most of her male peers. Metallica were also reliably propulsive, exhilarating and adrenalised. 'Thank you Black Sabbath,' growled James Hetfield, 'for giving us a purpose in life'. Between the main bands, a fluid supergroup featuring members of Judas Priest, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more also played, joined by surprise guests including the Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and the rising pop-rock star Yungblud, who brought high-energy swagger to his reworking of Sabbath's 1972 power ballad Changes. The Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello served as musical director for the whole event, and gave a few shredding performances himself, pairing up with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler for riotously funky versions of Walk This Way and Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love. The Villa Park video screens also aired fond video tributes to Ozzy and Sabbath from famous well-wishers, including Sir Elton John, Dolly Parton and Jack Black. Black Sabbath have survived multiple splits, temporary reunions and premature retirements over their six-decade career. They last played in Birmingham with two huge 'farewell' shows in 2017, but Back to the Beginning inevitably had a more concrete air of finality, given Ozzy's health issues. Even so, the singer seemed in pretty fine voice when he finally appeared on stage to huge cheers, performing two short sets from a black leather armchair adorned with skulls and bat wings. Even a fallen emperor needs a throne. Ozzy opened with five songs from his post-Sabbath solo career, including a gothically camp Mr Crowley and the rollicking audience sing-along Crazy Train. After a short break, he reappeared with his Sabbath co-founders: the guitarist Tony Iommi, the bass player Terence 'Geezer' Butler and the drummer Bill Ward. There was a palpable sense of hatchets being buried and rifts healed at Villa Park, with Ward back in the fold after his acrimonious exclusion from previous tours. Sabbath's four-song set was all too brief, but still a pleasing reminder that seminal classics such as Paranoid, War Pigs and Iron Man retain their potent fusion of jazz, blues, funk, proto-punk aggression and doomy occult imagery. Climaxing with a blaze of fireworks, this was a mostly excellent and ultimately rather moving event. The artist formerly known as the Prince of Darkness may be hanging up his horns, but he is not going gently into that good night. ★★★★☆
