Tripura: Nine BJP functionaries injured in attack by Tipra Motha Party workers
A police officer said that around 30 BJP functionaries, members and supporters were assembled at a house at Taksapara village under Asharambari Assembly Constituency to listen to the Prime Minister's monthly Mann Ki Baat Programme.
'When the Mann Ki Baat Programme was going on, a large number of TMP workers attacked the gathering injuring nine BJP functionaries with two of them seriously. Local people took the injured to the Khowai district hospital,' the official said.
The TMP attackers also damaged eight bikes and two cars belonging to the BJP functionaries. A huge contingent of security forces led by senior police officials deployed in the tension ridden areas.
BJP Mandal President Jayanta Debbarma said that when the 'Mann Ki Baat' programme was underway around 100 unruly youths of the TMP attacked the party gathering.
'The attackers vandalised my vehicle too and also attacked the owner of the house where the Mann-Ki-Baat programme was organised. They also vandalised many bikes and several other vehicles,' Jayanta Debbarma told the media.
BJP leaders Papiya Datta, Pinaki Das Chowdhury and Bipin Debbarma separately condemned the incident and demanded severe action against the attackers.
Bipin Debbarma, state BJP's General Secretary, said that a delegation of BJP leaders from Agartala rushed to Khowai district.
'Chief Minister Manik Saha and state BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee talked with the TMP leaders and discussed the unexpected incident,' Bipin Debabrma told the media.
Asharambari Assembly Constituency is represented by senior TMP leader and Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma.
According to Bipin Debbarma, the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, spoke with Minister Animesh Debbarma over the incident.
The attackers used lathi, 'dao' (a sharp-edged weapon) and other locally made sticks to attack the BJP functionaries and members, Bipin Debbarma said, and demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the attackers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his thoughts with the people of the country and abroad in the Mann Ki Baat programme on Akashvani on Sunday, and it was the 124th episode of the monthly radio programme on Sunday.
The Tripura Chief Minister, his cabinet colleagues, many other leaders and thousands of workers and party members from across the state like previous episodes also listen to the programme on Sunday.

"Need To Relook At Our History": Economist As PM Offers Prayers At Iconic Cholapuram Temple
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Gangaikonda Cholapuram Shiva temple, has put the spotlight on the Chola empire, especially on the time of Rajendra Chola, who stood tall when northern India was under Muslim rule. This, however, was not an area or a period that gets much attention -- the study of history being "Delhi-centric", said economist and historian Sanjeev Sanyal, pointing to the big takeaway from the Prime Minister's visit. "We need to begin to relook at our history and think about our great ancestors as a vigorous people," said Mr Sanyal, explaining that the popular conception of Indians as a passive people who are thankful to invaders -- from Muslim to British -- for bringing in technology, culture and cuisine. Our ancestors, he said, "built great temples, they built entire new cities when necessary". "This is a much more vigorous view of ourselves than, you know, we are waiting for somebody to conquer us and give us the railways," said Mr Sanyal, who is also the Principal Economic Advisor to the government. "These were vigorous, risk-taking people, happy to go to war with each other sometimes or with foreign invaders. But the point is, this were not a passive people. And instead, the only person in our history of our, you know, pre-Islamic history that we celebrate is Ashoka. And the only reason we celebrate him is because he was passive, because the empire collapsed under him," he added. He said he was "glad the Cholas are being celebrated," but they were not the only people who had left their mark on the history of southeast Asia. "Even Tamil Nadu itself has many others. The Pandyas, the Cheras, which are from next door in Kerala, the Pallavas, and then the Gajapatis and all the kings of Kalinga, who also had these great maritime linkages to Southeast Asia. The Cholapuram temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site built around 1030 by Rajendra Chola, stands as evidence of the affluence of the of the empire under him. It was built around two decades after the Tanjore temple and in the same style. The Prime Minister's visit comes ahead of next year's assembly election in Tamil Nadu, where the BJP is trying hard to carve out a niche.

Bhubaneswar/Keonjhar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the efforts of two women-led changemaker groups in Odisha who are creating forest fire awareness through devotional music and reviving Santhali weaving, during his monthly 'Mann Ki Baat' radio address. Highlighting the deep connection between culture and conservation, the PM spoke about Radhakrishna Sankirtan Mandali, a folk music troupe from Murgapahadi village in Keonjhar district. "Have you ever heard about people being made aware of forest fires through kirtans? You may not believe it, but this amazing work is happening in Keonjhar district of Odisha. Here, there is a group named Radhakrishna Sankirtan Mandali," he said. Modi further said the troupe was working for environmental protection. "The inspiration behind this initiative is Pramila Pradhan Ji. To protect the forest and environment, she has added new lyrics and new messages to traditional songs. Her troupe travels from village to village, raising awareness against the hazards of forest fire. "The number of fire points in Ghatagaon range reduced from 288 in 2023 to 80 in 2024 and 26 in 2025. Awareness through cultural groups, including sankirtan, has played a significant role," he added. Modi also appreciated another women's collective from Mayurbhanj district that has been quietly reviving Santhali handloom. "There is a success story in Mayurbhanj district. Here, more than 650 tribal women have given a new life to Santhali saris. These women are earning thousands of rupees every month. They are not only making clothes but also creating their own identity," said Modi. Students of Banabasi Kalyan Ashram in Mancheswar area of Bhubaneswar listened to the PM's address along with chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The CM encouraged the students to focus on their studies, work hard and aim to become successful and responsible individuals. He also planted a neem sapling on the ashram premises.
