on Friday said the city has the potential to transform into a global economic centre by capitalising on its innovation, educational ecosystem and manufacturing strength.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) Growth Hub at the Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (Yashada), jointly organised by
Niti Aayog
, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and the Pune International Centre (PIC).
"Cities cannot dominate in regions alone anymore. Pune is progressive and innovative; it will create its own strength by entering new sectors," Fadnavis said at the event.

He emphasized the need for planned development to enhance ease of living and attract global investment.
Maharashtra govt, with support from NITI Aayog and PIC, will prepare a comprehensive growth strategy in the next four to five months. Both Pune and Mumbai are part of the 14 growth hubs announced by the centre.
Fadnavis cited Pune's strength in skilled manpower and AI-based innovation. He also highlighted the 'Educity' project in Navi Mumbai, where five global universities have signed MoUs and 50,000 students are expected in the next few years, generating Rs 2,000 crore in GST and skilled talent.

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde said the Growth Hub will usher in a new era of development while preserving Pune's tradition and environment. "This initiative aims to align economic growth with people-oriented welfare. Pune's strengths in technology, AI, manufacturing, and education will make it a globally competitive city," he said. He added that rural areas would also benefit from urban growth via infrastructure and connectivity.
NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam said the Growth Hub initiative, launched in 2023, aims to double PMR's economy from the present $58 billion modelled on Mumbai's $140-300 billion target in five years. Additional chief secretary Rajagopal Deora announced similar hubs will follow in Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Nashik.

Shares of Godrej Properties rose 2.4% to an intraday high of Rs 2,098 on the BSE on Monday, following the announcement of a 15% year-on-year (YoY) increase in net profit for the quarter ended June 2025. ADVERTISEMENT The real estate developer reported a consolidated profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 600 crore in Q1FY26. However, total income for the quarter declined 3% YoY to Rs 1,593 crore, down from Rs 1,638 crore in the same period last year. Despite the dip in income, operational momentum remained strong. The company achieved a booking value of Rs 7,082 crore during the quarter, driven by the sale of 4,231 apartments covering a total area of 6.17 million square feet. While this marked an 18% YoY decline in area sold, it was the eighth consecutive quarter in which Godrej Properties recorded bookings exceeding Rs 5,000 the quarter, the company launched six new projects and phases, with a combined sales potential of Rs 8,500 crore. Additionally, collections rose 22% YoY to Rs 3,670 crore, reflecting strong cash inflows. It also revised its EV/EBITDA multiple down to 9x from 10x, reflecting a moderating growth outlook. The target price is based on 1HFY28E estimates, and the long-term view remains positive. The stock is currently trading at 9x FY27E EV/ Oswal (MOSL) maintained a 'Buy' rating with a target price of Rs 2,843. CCMC approves expansion of ABC facilities amid public outcry
COIMBATORE: Amid ongoing public protests demanding the relocation of the Vellalore dump yard, the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has moved ahead with plans to expand the Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre located within the premises. In a resolution passed unanimously during the recent council meeting, the corporation approved the construction of four additional kennel bays on the eastern side of the Vellalore facility at a cost of Rs 2 crore. An additional Rs 1 crore has been allocated for building four new operation theatres and consultation rooms for veterinary doctors. Meanwhile, a separate proposal to establish a brand-new ABC centre at Vellakinaru in Ward 2 is in the pipeline, at an estimated budget of Rs 2.65 crore. Land identification for this project began earlier this year. In addition, maintenance and renovation works worth Rs 754 lakh have been proposed for the existing Pullukadu ABC centre in Ward 86.
