The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a smash hit when it was released in 2023, with the film quickly becoming the highest grossing video game film adaptation and the first ever film based on a video game to bring in over $1 billion at the box office. The movie ended on a tease for a sequel, which was subsequently confirmed by Nintendo and Universal to be in production in 2024 — and now we finally know its name.
In a corporate press release revealing its slate of content for 2025, NBCUniversal revealed that a host of future movies would be coming to its streaming service Peacock immediately after their theatrical release. Among them were films including Megan 2.0, How to Train Your Dragon, and Bad Guys 2, but a few others were seemingly left in by mistake, including one big one.

What is the Mario Movie Sequel Called?
According to the press release – which has since been edited to remove mention of Mario and a few other films – the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be titled "Super Mario World":
An exciting range of films from Universal Pictures, Focus Features, DreamWorks Animation and Illumination were presented, including Megan 2.0, Nobody 2, Bad Guys 2, How to Train Your Dragon, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, Black Phone 2, HIM, The Phoenician Scheme, Super Mario World, Shrek, and Minions.
The name is an homage to the fourth mainline Super Mario Bros. game, also called Super Mario World, which was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990 in Japan and 1991 in the US. The game is considered one of the greatest video games ever made, and is remembered fondly by fans to this day.
Super Mario World ties in to the tease at the end of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, too — the game was the first to feature Mario's trusty steed, a dinosaur named Yoshi, who hatches from an egg in the game. The same egg was seen in the post-credits scene in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, leading many to believe that the film's sequel would heavily feature the dinosaur companion.
Super Mario World Release Date
Nintendo and Universal revealed in a Mario Day stream in 2024 that Super Mario World would be released on April 3, 2026 in the US and in most countries globally, with a few additional territories getting the film later in April and May.
Like The Super Mario Bros. Movie before it, Super Mario World will be animated by Minions studio Illumination and produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Nintendo representative director Shigeru Miyamoto. The film will be directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and written by Matthew Fogel, all of whom held similar positions in the production of the first film.
The news comes after Nintendo revealed the release date for its live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, which is currently in production under Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment, with each financing 50% of the production. No cast has been announced for the film, but Spider-Man veteran Avi Arad will be acting as producer alongside Miyamoto-san, and Maze Runner director Wes Ball will be directing the film.

THE MUMMY Director Lee Cronin Says Horror Reboot Is 'All Wrapped Up' and Shares BTS Photo — GeekTyrant

The tomb has officially been sealed… for now. Director Lee Cronin has confirmed that principal photography on The Mummy reboot is complete, marking a major step forward in Blumhouse and Atomic Monster's resurrection of the iconic Universal monster. Cronin made the announcement on social media with a behind-the-scenes image from set. The photo shows a director's chair with the film's logo and a foggy, stone chamber. 'This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before,' Cronin previously said when production kicked off. 'I'm digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.' Coming off the grotesque energy of Evil Dead Rise , Cronin clearly has no plans to play this one safe. The film stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Veronica Falcón, May Calamawy, and May Elghety, though we still don't know who's playing what. No character details have surfaced. Given the pedigree of the cast and Cronin's twisted storytelling style, there's reason to expect something a little weirder and darker than previous Mummy outings. Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are co-financing the film, with genre powerhouses James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville producing. The release date is already set: April 17, 2026. So mark your calendars, and maybe start brushing up on your ancient curses.

Date Everything! From the Comfort of Your Anthropomorphic Home

The frenzy around the Nintendo Switch 2 included the release of Mario Kart World, which our critic said was an elegant experience but one without any oil drips or skid marks. Another critic called The Alters, a sci-fi adventure about a stranded space miner who can select alternative life paths, an extraordinary survival game. Here are three other games you may have missed this month: Date Everything! Reviewed on the Nintendo Switch 2. Also available on the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Date Everything! stands out as a bright, welcoming dating simulation with an unusually comely twist. You meet and consider the attributes of everyday objects that come alive as humans. It's surprising to witness how magnetically sexy they are. After being replaced by A.I. at a megacorporation, you head home to the cold solace of a desktop computer. A drone delivers special glasses that bear a red heart above the bridge. Once you don the spectacles, the magic of anthropomorphism occurs. In Date Everything!, there is no requirement to leave home for nervous flirtation at a bar. One hundred potential mates emerge from a light switch, a fireplace, a refrigerator, a dust bunny, or even a piano. Phoenicia, a woman of color with a bald head who was created from a smartphone, was my early favorite. Joyful and positive, she emanated strength and empathy. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Fast X: Part 2 Release Date & Brian's Return Get Huge Updates From Vin Diesel

Fast & Furious franchise star and producer Vin Diesel recently teased the release date window of Fast X: Part 2 and the return of Brian O'Conner, previously portrayed by the late Paul Walker. As of 2025, 10 movies have come out in the main branch of the franchise. It was previously reported that the upcoming 11th film would also be the last chapter of the Diesel-led movie series. However, the franchise will potentially continue through spin-offs. Diesel made an appearance at the FuelFest, an automobile festival organized by Paul Walker's brother Cody and Tyrese Gibson, and revealed key details about Fast X: Part 2, the finale of the Fast & Furious movie series. He announced that the movie will debut in April 2027. 'As you all know, we've been working very hard to bring you the finale,' Diesel began while addressing the crowd at Fuel Fest. 'Our franchise is only made possible because of the love that you all have for this culture called the car culture.' He disclosed that he had a meeting with Universal, the production company behind the franchise, a day ago, and the studio asked him if they could have the release date for the Fast 11 movie in April 2027. The MCU actor revealed that, in response, he listed three conditions that the fans have been asking for. Diesel said the first condition was to bring the franchise back to Los Angeles, California, which served as the setting of the first movie, 2001's The Fast and the Furious. The second thing, according to the actor, was returning the narrative to the car culture, the street racing. While the earlier movies in the franchise heavily focused on cars and the culture around them, later entries gradually shifted away from that. The third condition, Diesel revealed, was 'reuniting Dom (Diesel) and Brian O'Conner.' He added, 'That is what you gonna get in the finale,' indicating that Universal has agreed to his conditions. Paul Walker last portrayed Brian in 2015's Furious 7. He died in a tragic vehicular accident two years earlier. Walker's brothers, Cody and Caleb, and John Brotherton served as stand-ins for him for certain scenes in Furious 7. The 2023 release Fast X had archival footage featuring Walker's character. At the time of this article's composition, it's unclear how and in what capacity Brian will appear in Fast X: Part 2.
