South African Jordan Pepper takes maiden DTM victory at Norisring
It means that Pepper heads into the second half of the DTM season joint second in the drivers' standings, just seven points behind championship leader, Austrian driver Lucas Auer and nephew of former Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger in a Mercedes-AMG GT.
'It's been a perfect two weeks and a great way to bounce back after the last three weeks. To finally get that first DTM win, after a difficult Zandvoort, is amazing and coming off a very difficult Spa in terms of physical and mental effort has been great,' said Pepper on his win.
The season resumes at the Nürburgring on August 9-10 while the Huracán's successor, the Temerario GT3 will be officially unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 11.

Volkswagen deal offers hope for Eastern Cape as Mercedes-Benz considers South Africa exit
Mercedes-Benz has temporarily halted production at its East London plant. The factory in East London plays a pivotal role in the province's economy, exporting nearly 90% of its vehicles to the US. Image: Supplied Banele Ginidza Volkswagen South Africa's (VWSA) recent agreement to become the sole global manufacturer of the VW Polo—producing both left and right-hand drive models for all markets—offers a beacon of hope for the struggling Eastern Cape Province. This announcement comes on the heels of alarming news from Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA), which has indicated that the newly imposed 30% tariffs on exports to the United States may force the company to exit the country entirely. During a briefing by the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape Provincial Treasuries, acting Premier Mlungusi Mvalo expressed grave concerns about the potential departure of MBSA. Mvoko said Mercedes Benz had indicated that it would likely leave the country with the composition of the 30% tariffs, adding that this would be devastating for the province's economy. The factory in East London plays a pivotal role in the province's economy, exporting nearly 90% of its vehicles to the US. "You cannot imagine East London without Mercedez Benz. MBSA exports almost 90% of their cars to the US. In our interaction with MBSA, they have said that given these tariffs, it proves it will be difficult," Mvalo said. Video Player is loading. We asked them to think about looking for other markets because the US market is not guaranteed and it is a difficult market. We are hoping that they will consider. "We are anticipating that MBSA might leave South Africa, but we are hoping that the discussion we have had at international level, as we had a delegation going to Stuttgart, that might save it. "Because if MBSA goes, even the East London Special Economic Zone would be gone because half of what the companies established there are suppliers to MBSA. And I am not talking about all those around East London. The livelihood of the whole East London, King Williams Town, is dependent on MBSA." The rampant anxiety surrounding MBSA's future escalated as Mvalo confirmed that the automotive sector, which accounts for a significant portion of the province's economic activity, might be facing dire challenges. "We have also lost Goodyear Tyres just a month ago. This is the second tyre manufacturing company that we have lost, as you know we lost Bridgestone Tyres last month. It's also going to have a ripple effects on all the industries because as you now that the Eastern Cape hosts the majority of the suppliers in the country in the automotive sector. About 80% of suppliers are in the Eastern Cape, you can imagine what will happen," Mvoko said. "Fortunately, VW is still with us with a new deal of manufacturing Polo for the whole world. So it just saved us but you will never know with things. So things are not very good with us. It is going to contribute to the high unemployment rate because now things are really challenging to say the least." Mvoko said the agriculture sector was not performing as anticipated as the second tier economy. Meanwhile, the Motor Industry Staff Association (MISA) said the decision by US President Donald Trump to impose 30% tariffs on the export of vehicles, components, tyres and parts exported from South Africa to the United States will kill any possible economic growth in South Africa. Martlé Keyter, MISA's CEO for operations, said the retail motor industry was already struggling amidst the uncertainty of tariff percentage increases. Keyter said the union was experiencing an increase in employers closing their doors, restructuring in terms of Section 189 of the Labour Relations Act or embarking on short time. According to Tiekie Mocke, manager of MISA's legal department, the negative impact on exports forced an employer within the retail motor industry to cut a five-day workweek back to a four-day workweek, effectively leaving employees out of pocket with at least one week's income per month. "This was done pro-actively to prevent retrenchments but cannot continue indefinitely," Mocke said. BUSINESS REPORT

Ferrari unveils Daytona SP3 Tailor Made for charity auction at Monterey Car Week
Ferrari has revealed a one-off Daytona SP3 to be auctioned by RM Sotheby's during Monterey Car Week in California this August. Created through the Italian carmaker's Tailor Made customisation programme, this unique model features a striking two-tone livery in carbon fibre/Giallo Modena with glossy black elements on the front splitter, side sills and rear diffuser. A full-length Ferrari logotype (also in Giallo Modena) is applied across the upper body, marking the first time the brand has used its logo in this way. The interior features an innovative fabric made from recycled tyres bearing the distinctive Prancing Horse motif, while the dashboard and steering column are constructed from the same lightweight carbon fibre used in Formula 1, underscoring the car's connection to Ferrari's racing heritage. Powered by a 6.5 l naturally aspirated V12 engine producing 618kW and 697Nm, the car carries the designation 599+1, acknowledging it as an extra addition to the sold-out 599-unit run of the Daytona SP3. A bespoke plaque will be fitted to commemorate its singular status. All proceeds from the auction will go to The Ferrari Foundation in support of educational initiatives. Among its recent projects is a partnership with Save the Children, which includes helping rebuild the Aveson Charter School in Altadena, California, after it was destroyed by the Eaton wildfire earlier this year.

Kaizer Chiefs stunned by Maart exit, Doctor predicts big changes
Kaizer Chiefs are set to lose their captain, Yusuf Maart, to Austrian top-flight outfit SV Ried. The 29-year-old midfielder is not included in the Amakhosi squad currently in the Netherlands for pre-season preparations. He was expected to sign a contract extension following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season; however, there have been no official updates from the team regarding this matter. Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Doctor Khumalo said Amakhosi would be a different team without Maart this season. ADVERTISEMENT 'Firstly, let me congratulate Yusuf because that's a very lucrative one. As a player, you need to have ambitions to play outside the country,' he said. 'I think it's going to be a different Kaizer Chiefs because Maart played 90 percent of the games for Kaizer Chiefs. Who is going to forget the crucial goal that he scored in the Nedbank Cup final? Everything has centred around him as he was wearing an armband, but then again, there's nothing anyone can do about it. 'Let him go, but Chiefs will look so different baba, wait for it,' Khumalo said. Yusuf Maart to leave Kaizer Chiefs after three years With Amakhosi losing their leader, it seems likely that Inacio Miguel will take over the captain's armband, with Brandon Petersen and Thabo Cele as vice-captains. Miguel did lead Kaizer Chiefs several times last season, but Nasreddine Nabi decided to hand the captaincy to Maart permanently midseason. Besides their captain, Amakhosi have parted ways with experienced players in the past few weeks. Who should take over from Maart?
