Narcotics bureau busts drug syndicate in Maharashtra and Rajasthan, 3 detained

During questioning, he revealed his past association with M/s Rohan Chemicals, a now-shuttered factory in Raigad.A subsequent search of the Rohan Chemicals premises by NCB Mumbai and Raigad district police led to the recovery of approximately 34 kilograms of Ketamine in powder form and 12 litres of Ketamine in liquid form. Authorities also found a large stock of precursor chemicals and laboratory equipment. Evidence suggests that the closed factory was being covertly used to manufacture Ketamine.Further investigation has revealed the involvement of a mastermind previously implicated in drug trafficking cases handled by both the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and the NCB.The success of the operation was made possible through 'real-time sharing of information and coordinated operations by Barmer Police, Raigad Police and NCB Zones at Jodhpur, Ahmedabad and Mumbai,' enabling authorities to dismantle the network over the course of two days.Investigations are ongoing under the jurisdiction of Barmer and Raigad district police.Earlier, NCB Jodhpur had also busted a similar clandestine lab in Sri Ganganagar, recovering 5 kilograms of Mephedrone and precursor chemicals. Notably, the accused in that case included physics and chemistry teachers.- Ends

Dharmasthala ‘secret burials': Judge who issued media gag order recuses from hearing case
The Bengaluru court judge who issued a gag order on media reports against the family of the Sree Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara temple administration in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada, in connection with investigations into alleged secret burials in the region, has recused himself from hearing the case. The recusal comes in the wake of an application by a journalist indicating that the judge is an alumni of an institution operated by the temple administration. On Monday, the principal sessions judge allowed the 10th additional city civil and sessions judge Vijaya Kumar Rai to recuse himself from hearing the original suit filed by Harshendra Kumar D on behalf of the family. 'Pursuant to the request made by this court to transfer this suit to any other court, the Honourable Principal City Civil and Sessions Judge has withdrawn this suit and transferred to the court of XVII Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge, Bengaluru, for disposal in accordance with law as per the notification…dated 04.08.2025,' judge Rai said in an order on Monday. 'In view of this, the registry shall forward the entire records of this case to the XVII Civil and Session Judge, Bengaluru (CCH-16),' he said. The judge had passed a gag order on media reports about the family members of the temple administration amid a public controversy that has gripped the temple town following a former sanitation worker's allegations that he was forced to bury several dead bodies in the region during the 1995-2014 period. The injunction order on July 18 was based on a petition filed by Harshendra Kumar D, brother of BJP MP D Veerendra Heggade and secretary of the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Society. The petition had sought directions to 'remove/delete/deindex the unverified false, baseless, reckless and defamatory allegations' against the plaintiff, his brother Heggade and his family members, the temple, and the institutions run by them. On August 1, the Karnataka High Court quashed the gag order with reference to the Mangaluru-based online media channel Kudla Rampage, stating that the civil court 'has ventured to grant a sweeping mandatory injunction, a relief which ordinarily ought to await the culmination of the trial.'

Kochi IT Executive Accused Of Sexual Harassment After Filing Blackmail Case
A week after a top IT executive filed a complaint against his former employee and her husband for allegedly blackmailing and threatening him for a substantial sum of money, a case was registered against him on Tuesday following a counter-complaint by the woman, accusing him of sexual harassment. This fresh development comes just a week after a local court granted bail to the Kochi-based couple, only hours after they were taken into custody by the Ernakulam Central Police. The duo, identified as Krishna Raj and his wife, allegedly blackmailed and trapped Venu Gopalakrishnan -- the CEO of Litmus7, a leading IT firm based in the Infopark campus -- forcing him to transfer Rs 50,000 into their bank account. According to Gopalakrishnan's complaint, the couple even coerced him into signing two cheques of Rs 10 crore each in their names. The woman had been employed at his firm but had recently resigned. Following her resignation, the couple allegedly plotted to fabricate a false case and began threatening the businessman, demanding Rs 30 crore. They warned that if he failed to pay, she would accuse him of being in an extramarital relationship with her and of sexually assaulting her. Based on Gopalakrishnan's complaint, the couple was arrested on July 30. However, they were granted bail later the same day. The latest development came on Tuesday, when the Kochi police registered a case against Gopalakrishnan following the woman's complaint, accusing him of sexual harassment and issuing threats. In her complaint, she stated that it was only after she expressed her intention to file a complaint against Gopalakrishnan with the internal complaints committee of the IT firm that he allegedly framed them in a false honey trap case. With a case now registered against Gopalakrishnan, alongside the ongoing investigation into the couple, the two separate probe teams are reportedly considering a coordinated approach to move the investigations forward.
