MLB insider reports Guardians listening to trade offers on relievers

Yahoo19-07-2025
The MLB trade deadline is less than two weeks away, and the Cleveland Guardians are expected to be one of the most prominent teams as the deadline approaches. If they sell, there will be plenty of great options on the market.
Their best assets, who are also the most realistic to be moved, reside in the bullpen. And according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the Guardians are listening to offers on the team's relievers.
"Guardians are listening to relievers, including stars Smith and Clase." Heyman writes, "Prices are understandably high. They are seen as not too likely to trade either top pen guy, and with MLB's easiest closing schedule, they aren't even a certain seller."
This report from Heyman paints the picture for the Guardians that, while they have assets teams would want, they aren't too keen to sell. Combined with their easy schedule, the Guardians might be in postseason contention by the time the deadline rolls around.
Emmanuel Clase is one of the most sought-after trade targets this season. He's been great once again, with a 2.86 ERA and 44 strikeouts to go with 21 saves through 44 innings pitched this season.

Cade Smith is also a hot commodity, as his 3.07 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 41 innings would be very appealing to a team, especially since he's so cheap and under team control for a while (through 2029).
Either would draw a huge return for the Guardians, and while Heyman reports the team is listening to offers, the expectation is neither will be moved at the deadline.
Of the two, Clase is more likely to be traded. He'd draw more in return for Cleveland and has the All-Star, Cy Young candidate pedigree, as well as being signed through 2026 with options for $10 million in 2027 and 2028.
However, regardless of who is more likely to be traded, the Guardians' willingness to listen to offers for both is noteworthy. If a team offers a deal too big to turn down, the Guardians could be parting ways with their long-time closer after five years in the Majors.

Marcus Morris arrest: Brother Markieff confirms situation, agent claims issue stems from unpaid casino debt

NBA veteran Marcus Morris was arrested Sunday on a fraud charge, Broward County booking records confirmed. Morris, 35, was apparently arrested at an airport due to "insufficient funds check," per the arrest information. While Morris has not commented on the situation, his brother, Markieff, confirmed the arrest, but claimed the fraud charge was "crazy." "The wording is crazy," Markieff said. "Damn for that amount of money they'll embarrass you in the airport with your family. They got y'all really thinking bro did some fraud s***. They could have came to the crib for all that. When y'all hear the real story on this s*** man. All I can say is Lesson learned. Bro will tell y'all tomorrow. This weird shit gave me a headache. Can't stop nothin!" Morris' agent, Yony Noy issued a response to Markieff's tweet. Noy attempted to clarify the situation, saying Marcus' arrest has nothing to do with a fake check. Noy claimed Morris was arrested over an unpaid credit with a casino. Noy called the arrest "absolutely insanity." Noy's full statement read: "Just so everyone understands this is zero fraud here or whatever crap outlets have said regarding fake checks or whatever the hell. This is due to an outstanding marker with a casino. Apparently if you have over $1,200 they can issue a warrant for your arrest. Absolute insanity!" Morris, a 13-year NBA veteran, saw time with a number of teams during his playing career. He spent four of his 13 seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers and three with the Phoenix Suns. He also saw time with six other franchises as a player. His final season in the NBA came in 2023-24, when he saw time with the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers. Morris appeared as a guest NBA analyst on ESPN during the offseason.

Messi and his wife had a MUCH better time on infamous Coldplay 'kiss cam'

These days, getting caught on the Coldplay concert kiss cam isn't necessarily the best thing (that is, if you're allegedly hiding something). But when you're Lionel Messi, the world's best soccer player, and you're with your wife, it's not bad! In fact, you might get sung to by the band's Chris Martin! That's what happened on Sunday, with Messi and wife Antonela appearing on the kiss cam and getting these words from Martin: "Well Leo, my beautiful brother, you and your wife are looking so fine. Thanks for coming today, to see our band play. The number one sports person of all time!" It was all smiles and waves from Messi and Antonela. Everyone loved it. Suffice it to say, they had a MUCH better time than others have had on the Coldplay kiss cam. This comes days after Martin's ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow appeared in a hilarious video for Astronomer that winked at the other viral moment that made headlines.
