Rising to the occasion, the South African opener delivered a standout performance—one of the most memorable in the history of the tournament—to guide his team to their maiden World Test Championship title.
"It is a privilege to receive this award. To contribute to a ICC World Test Championship win for our team and South Africa is something that means a lot to me," Markram said upon winning the award.
'Winning the final at Lord's is a historic moment for South African cricket, and it is something we will all remember forever. This victory was only possible due to the combined efforts of the entire team, with crucial contributions from KG (Kagiso Rabada) and Tembs (Temba Bavuma)."
Markram made his presence felt early with the ball, coming into the attack to break a promising stand between Steve Smith and Beau Webster.

He struck swiftly, removing Smith with just his sixth delivery—an early breakthrough that proved decisive in the context of the match.
His first outing with the bat, however, was brief. The right-hander fell for a duck to Mitchell Starc, leaving him with a point to prove in the second innings.
He found redemption in emphatic style. With South Africa 74 runs behind and Australia frustratingly adding 59 for the final wicket, the pressure was mounting.
Markram once again stepped up—first by taking the final wicket of Josh Hazlewood, and then with a remarkable knock that turned the match on its head.
Chasing a challenging target of 282, Markram anchored the innings with composure. Despite the early loss of Ryan Rickelton, he built important partnerships with Wiaan Mulder and captain Temba Bavuma.
When Bavuma considered retiring hurt after an injury scare, it was Markram's words in the dressing room that convinced him to carry on.
Their partnership proved to be the cornerstone of South Africa's successful chase, taking them within touching distance of glory.
Markram's innings ended on a magnificent 136—a knock defined by poise, grit, and masterful strokeplay. More than just a match-winner, his performance etched his name into South African cricketing folklore, securing a long-awaited ICC title in truly memorable fashion.

Michael Vaughan left fuming as England docked points for Lord's Test slow over rate
Michael Vaughan was left fuming at the decision to dock England World Test Championship points for maintaining a slow rate during the Lord's Test. England were given a deduction of two ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points and a 10 percent fine on players' match penalty came under Article 16.11.2 of the ICC WTC playing conditions, which mandates a one-point deduction for each over a team falls short of the required rate, after accounting for permitted time allowances. England's points went from 24 to 22 out of a possible 36, reducing their points percentage from 66.67% to 61.11%. This has affected England's position in the WTC standings, as they slipped from second to third place as Sri Lanka moved ahead of them. advertisementEngland captain Ben Stokes accepted the penalty without contest, which meant that a formal hearing was eliminated. The sanction was then confirmed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Despite the slow over-rate in the Lord's Test, India escaped any sanction. This got Vaughan angry as he took to X to went his frustration. The former England captain said that both teams had poor over-rates in the match and it is surprising that only team has been reprimanded for the offence. "Let's be honest both teams over rates at Lords were very very poor .. How only 1 team has been reprimanded is beyond me," tweeted Vaughan on X. The slow over-rate issue in Lord's TestThe Lord's Test was a match that was marred by stoppages during the game, mainly due to ball changes and injuries. The first day saw just 83 overs being bowled and the second had 75 as fans and pundits were left fuming with rain or other weather conditions not playing a part. While things changed in the final three, it wasn't enough to save England from the sanction. These deductions have affected in the past WTC cycles as they're yet to make it to the final. India and England will lock horns on July 23 in the Manchester Test. - EndsTune InMust Watch

WTC Points Table: England Fined, Deducted Points for Slow Over-Rate in Lord's Test
England has suffered a setback in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) after their win against India in the third Test at Lord's. Despite the victory, the ICC deducted two points from England for maintaining a slow over-rate, causing them to slip from second to third place in the WTC standings. The Ben Stokes-led side was also fined 10 percent of their match fee. Match referee Richie Richardson confirmed the penalty, noting that England bowled two overs fewer than required. According to ICC's Code of Conduct Section 2.22, teams are fined 5% of the match fee for each over short. Additionally, one WTC point is deducted per over bowled late. Impact on WTC Standings: England's points reduced from 24 to 22 Points percentage dropped from 66.67% to 61.11% Sri Lanka has now overtaken England to move to second place with a 66.67% win rate Australia remains at the top with 100% after winning all three matches so far India holds the fourth position with a 33.33% points percentage Captain Ben Stokes accepted the penalty and acknowledged the team's mistake. The ICC stated that no formal hearing was required, as the team accepted the charge.
