Miss SA cuts ties with Supranational crown - for good?
The international pageant could follow the likes of the Miss World, which is no longer affiliated with the South African pageant, as it was sold to an independent titleholder, businesswoman Carol Bouwer.
The news comes weeks after Miss SA's Creative Director, Werner Wessels, resigned. It also comes after pageant queen Mia Le Roux withdrew from the 2024 Miss Universe pageant over health concerns.
According to the Instagram pageant fan page @missuniverseza, Miss SA has allegedly ended its participation in the Miss Supranational international pageant, which will take place on 27 June in Poland.
It shared in a post: 'I think it's pretty evident that this year we won't be competing at the Miss Supranational.
'It's definitely a sad and cruel twist of fate. I think South Africans wanted to see Mia [Le Roux] thrive on a platform that would've definitely been more inclusive. This just adds to another long list of disappointments by the Miss SA org.
It continued: 'It's entirely unfair to deny South African women the chance of being on international platforms, where they have a global audience and focus.
'Taking away these licenses is an extension of stripping away their voices and taking away the opportunity to advocate and lead initiatives that demand global attention. It's robbing them of the opportunity to show South Africa in her colours and boast our unique flair'.
The South African has reached out to Miss SA for comment. None has been received at the time of publishing.
In 2021, Miss SA runner-up Thato Mosehle became the first South African representative to compete at the Miss Supranational pageant. She was crowned the second-runner up.
A year later, Lalela Mswane – the South African titleholder – competed in the international pageant, which she won.
In 2023, Miss SA runner-up Ayanda Thabethe placed in the Top 5.
Despite landing in the Top 12, Bryoni Govender was named Miss Supranational Africa 2024.

Ready for her happily ever after: SPCA shares sweet Bobby update
The SPCA has shared an update about Bobby, the female dog that was cruelly abused and left to starve, who is now ready to be adopted. The animal made headlines when a clip of her emaciated body went viral on a TikTok posted by Johannesburg content creator Sasha Tshiamo last month. The influencer and the dog's owners are now facing charges of animal cruelty. On their X account, the SPCA shared another heartwarming update about Bobby, who they had rescued from her cruel owners. The animal activists posted pictures of the dog wearing a warm jacket and a bandana that read: 'I'm so adorable.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by NSPCA (@ Last month, a TikTok video of influencer Sasha Tshiamo quickly went viral. While the content creator danced in the video, all eyes were on the emaciated dog in the background that had social media users up in arms. The SPCA responded to the call to action, removing the dog – affectionately named Bobby – from its owner's care. They said of 'Bobby': 'She is the most lovable dog, handing out kisses to everyone since the moment she arrived! Forced to eat plastic to survive, Bobby was found severely malnourished, suffering from fly strike, and covered in ticks and fleas'. The SPCA has shared a heartwarming update on rescue dog Bobby. Images via Instagram: @ Sasha refused to take responsibility for the backlash to the video. In an Instagram Story, she posted, 'I don't know if I must laugh or cry, guys. That's not my dog.' In her TikTok video, a follower asked her to feed the dog. She clapped back, 'It's not my responsibility.' @ ♬ original sound – Chachamesa Canny Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 . Something on the side? Nando's pokes fun at Astronomer CEO
Nando's has done it again with another hilarious social media post, this time mocking Astronomer CEO Andy Byron who was recently caught cosying up to his alleged mistress during a Coldplay concert. While Nando's originated from South Africa, its Australian counterpart took a page out of its book with a cheeky advert. In an Instagram post, the flame-grilled chicken restaurant ran a promotion that poked fun at Astronomer CEO, Andy Byron. The ad read, 'Little something on the side? Enter Coldplay for a free regular side with any main.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nando's ANZ (@nandosaus) In a clip that broke the internet last week, Byron was caught canoodling with an employee, Kristin Cabot, during a Coldplay concert. Byron is a married man whose wife's name is Megan Kerrigan Byron. Lead singer Chris Martin said of the awkward moment: 'Either they're having an affair or they're very shy.' Meanwhile, Astronomer – the DataOps company Andy Byron worked for – has responded to the social media storm with a cheeky video of their own. In the clip, an unexpected guest – Gwyneth Paltrow, the ex-wife of Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin – made an appearance. In it, she tackled several 'burning questions' about the company and the scandal. Claiming that she had been 'hired on a temporary basis' in a PR post, Paltrow said: 'Astronomer has gotten a lot of questions over the last few days – and they wanted me to answer the most common ones.' The Hollywood actress went on to indirectly answer a few spoof questions about what had happened. 'We'll now be returning to what we do best: delivering game-changing results for our customers,' she added. The video comes after Andy Byron stepped down from his post as Astronomer CEO amid the backlash. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 . Afrika Tikkun celebrated its talent day at DP World Wanderers Stadium
Smiles, cheers, and jubilation filled the DP World Wanderers Stadium on July 26 during Afrika Tikkun's talent day. The talent day is a chance for 3 000 children from different Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres around Gauteng to come together to show their talents. Afrika Tikkun is a South African non-profit organisation transforming the lives of children and youth from cradle to career. Also read: Scouts welcome Johannesburg Children's Home for weekend of fun and friendship The talent day was made up of sporting activities, including netball, soccer, running, and dance competitions. Afrika Tikkun's CEO, Marc Lubner, explained that although there were prizes for winners, every single child present would receive a prize. 'The Talent Day Initiative started approximately 12 years ago; we were a much smaller organisation. We've got a new group that's here today from Marikana, which is part of our latest outreach programme.' Lubner added that the NPO has begun to engage with children with disabilities in an inclusion programme. 'So rather than keeping the disabled children separate, we involve the children in mainstream.'
