The Los Angeles Lakers came into the NBA offseason badly needing a new starting center. After rumors connected them to quite a few options, the Lakers decided to sign Deandre Ayton following his buyout from the Portland Trail Blazers.
Ayton was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Of course, that was the same draft Luka Doncic was selected at No. 3 overall by the Atlanta Hawks and then traded to the Dallas Mavericks.
Now, the two top 2018 picks will have a chance to team up and play together.

Joining forces with Doncic and LeBron James could be exactly what Ayton needs to take the next step and play up to his full potential.
Following his decision to sign with Los Angeles, Ayton spoke out boldly about Doncic.
"Luka is a once-in-a-generation player and I'm happy to be his teammate," Ayton said. "Hearing about the kind of shape he's been in, he's super ripped and I'm finally glad to be on his side."
During the 2024-25 NBA season with the Trail Blazers, Ayton played in 40 games. He averaged 14.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and a block per game, while shooting 56.6 percent from the floor.
Back in the 2023-24 campaign in his first year with Portland, he averaged 16.7 points per game to go along with 11.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, a steal, and 0.8 blocks per game.
At just 26 years old, Ayton is in his prime. He's more than capable of taking a big step with the Lakers and becoming a legitimate star. It's a great fit from a basketball perspective and Doncic will help him in a big way.

In addition to talking about playing with Doncic, Ayton also sent out his first message on social media since joining Los Angeles.
"New chapter. Let's hoop, Lakers Nation #LakeShow," his post read.
It will be interesting to see what Ayton is able to accomplish with the Lakers. He's exactly the kind of presence Los Angeles needed at the center position and will be asked to shoulder a big role as the team looks to become a championship contender.

Fans Stir Bam Adebayo Trade Rumors After Sighting With Pau Gasol At WNBA All-Star Game

Fans Stir Bam Adebayo Trade Rumors After Sighting With Pau Gasol At WNBA All-Star Game originally appeared on Fadeaway World. This offseason has seen several surprising moves, prompting fans to dream up creative trade scenarios. Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo happens to be the latest benefactor of this chatter after he was spotted sitting next to Los Angeles Lakers legend Pau Gasol at the WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday night. Adebayo has garnered a fair degree of attention in trade rumors this offseason, particularly with the Purple and Gold. Although there have been no explicit links between the two parties, fan speculation has been the driving force behind all narratives. Adebayo's appearance with Gasol on Saturday is more likely to be a harmless coincidence than anything else. But fans were not going to let the possibility of a trade slide. In response to the sighting, several fans took to social media to share their thoughts. 'Lakers recruiting Bam," said one fan, blatantly. "Bam is a Laker," echoed another, in tandem. "Pau to the Heat confirmed," mocked a third, displaying the outrageous nature of trade rumors. Another fan made a keen observation of Adebayo's outfit, which matched the Lakers' colors, and said, "Oh no, and look at the color of his pants." Another chimed in with this and added, "And he's wearing the color lol." "First Luka, then Pau. Uhhh, not sure how I feel about this," added another fan, referencing a prior sighting of Luka Doncic and Adebayo together at a party. One fan had already resigned to the idea of a trade and said, "Must be 5 1st round picks." One fan summed up the situation and shared, "Someone said 'Heat fans think Bam is recruiting Luka, but it's really the other way around' and when you look at it like that it makes way more sense." "If not this season, next one, I guess," added another fan. One fan simply said, "Bro is gone." While several Heat fans are nervous about a potential move involving Adebayo, there is a greater likelihood that there was nothing involved in this particular scenario. Gasol has been an advocate for the WNBA and women's basketball for a long time. Meanwhile, Adebayo's partner, A'ja Wilson, was starting for Team Clark in the All-Star Game. Given the overlap of events, it is far more plausible that they were simply seated together. Even the links with Doncic can be traced to the Jordan brand event. In light of this, there are virtually no legitimate traces of an attempt to recruit Adebayo to the Lakers. Still, a sliver of doubt remains. Considering the rumors linking LeBron James to Miami, the possibilities remain endless this offseason. But at the current juncture, the Lakers seem content with the upgrades they've made to their frontcourt this story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Jul 20, 2025, where it first appeared.

'CP3' lives on as Bradley Beal agrees to give No. 3 jersey to new Clippers teammate Chris Paul

Chris Paul won't have to worry about choosing a number next season as he makes his return to the Los Angeles Clippers. New teammate Bradley Beal has opened the door for "CP3" to continue in what could very well be the veteran's final NBA season.. Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank said Tuesday that Beal, who has worn No. 3 his entire career, offered up the number to Paul, who has also worn No. 3 over his 20 years in the league. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] "Once Brad heard that it was a possibility that Chris was coming, he said, 'I want to give him my number.' And I don't even think Chris knows this yet," Frank said. "So it's awesome that Brad made such a great gesture like that." A similar gesture was made last season when Paul played for the San Antonio Spurs. Forward Keldon Johnson gave up the No. 3 after Paul signed a one-year deal last summer. The 40-year-old Paul, a future Hall of Famer, also wore the No. 3 while at Wake Forest. He's played for seven franchises with 1,354 games played and more than 23,000 points scored. He is a 12-time All-Star, four-time All-NBA First Teamer, seven-time All-Defensive First Teamer and a member of the NBA 75th Anniversary team, among numerous other honors. Paul played for the Clippers from 2011-2017 and is the franchise's leader in assists and steals per game. He will be in a bench role this time around in LA, but can still be productive. He's coming off a 2024-25 season where he played 82 games and averaged 8.8 points, 7.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game. 'Chris was the best guy for the job as long as we all understand what the role is,' Frank said. 'There will be nights Chris plays a lot and there will be nights he does not.'

Bronny James on his development: 'My confidence has grown'

This month's NBA summer league was an overall disappointment for the Los Angeles Lakers. They went 1-4 in the main Las Vegas summer league, and incoming second-year sharpshooter Dalton Knecht struggled throughout both the main summer league and the California Classic with his shooting. In addition, Darius Bazley, a forward who has five years of NBA history, played some impressive basketball on both ends of the floor, but he suffered a leg injury in the Lakers' penultimate summer league game. But while Bronny James struggled offensively early on, he finished strong. He shot the ball well and made an impact defensively, and overall, he looked a lot more comfortable on the court than he did several months ago. Summer league coach Lindsey Harding was impressed with how the 20-year-old did this month, per 'He's been great,' said Harding. 'Having his time in the G League, getting more and more confidence and then coming here and taking more minutes and responsibility on his shoulders. Handling the ball much more than he has in the past and making those decisions and reads for us, he's taken that role on as a leader, that was also part of his growth. And then on the defensive end, where he had those moments where he can really pressure (the ball), pick up full court, be disruptive. That's something where he can really have an immediate impact for our team this season.' In an interview with Mike Trudell, James talked about his growth going back to his time in the G League just a few months ago. 'I definitely think those G League reps were amazing for me to be comfortable in my game, so that's helped for me to be out there for an extended period of time,' added Bronny. 'My confidence has grown from last year, throughout the G League season and some NBA games. It's been a slow progression, but it's working out so far. ' The guard also talked about how he's working on his ability to be a lead guard, even though he will likely have to play as a 2-guard if he ever makes it to the NBA. 'Keeping working on my game on ball, all the stuff off ball will just flow,' he said. 'But if I'm consistently confident in bringing the ball up, knowing my role and being able to play the 1 when it's needed, I think I'll be good. Because I don't really have any problem playing off the ball if I need to. So just getting those reps over and over again of me having the ball in my hand most of the time is really good for my development.' In four games at the main summer league, James ended up averaging 14.3 points on 47.6% field-goal shooting, 3.8 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 steals a game. His 3-point shooting was iffy and he turned the ball over a little too much, but he gave plenty of people continued hope that he can eventually become a rotation player at the NBA level.
