President, PM reaffirm support on Kashmir Martyrs' Day

Listen to article
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday reiterated Pakistan's political, diplomatic and moral support for the Kashmiri people.
In their separate messages on the occasion of Kashmir Martyrs' Day being observed today, they said the day serves as a reminder of the inherited resilience, resistance against brutal forces, and unwavering determination of Kashmiris for their freedom.
President Zardari lauded the unwavering courage, determination, and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people, who have resisted Indian occupation for decades and continue their struggle for self-determination.
'I pay tribute to the 22 great Kashmiri martyrs who sacrificed their lives against oppression and barbarism and for the right to freedom, outside Srinagar Jail on July 13, 1931.'
'The great struggle that the Kashmiri people are carrying forward today is a continuation of the sacrifices of these 22 martyrs. The candle of freedom that their sacrifice lit in the hearts of the Kashmiri nation is still burning brightly today,' he added.
President concluded his message saying India's "illegal occupation" of Kashmir had turned the region into a military prison, where "extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, political imprisonment, demographic changes, and systematic efforts to erase Muslim identity" were ongoing.
Prime Minister Shehbaz, in his message, said the Kashmiris have been, and continue to, sacrifice their lives in pursuit of their legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination.
'Today, the Government of Pakistan reaffirms its commitment to the resolution of the Kashmir issue and the right of self-determination of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with United Nations resolutions.'
Meanwhile, Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control, as well as those residing in Pakistan and across the globe, are observing Kashmir Martyrs' Day to pay tribute to the martyrs of July 13, 1931, and all Kashmiris who have sacrificed their lives in the struggle for freedom.
The observance of the day has been called by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and is supported by all pro-freedom leaders and organisations.
To honour the martyrs, rallies, seminars, and conferences are being held in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Pakistan, and in major capitals around the world.
In Muzaffarabad, the Kashmir Liberation Cell, in collaboration with the AJK chapter of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has organised a public gathering followed by a rally.
Pasban-e-Hurriyat has also arranged a protest rally at Burhan Wani Shaheed Chowk.
Additionally, a smartly turned-out police contingent will present a ceremonial salute at the Shuhada Monument to pay respect to the martyrs.

PM to visit China next month

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chairs a review meeting on Hajj arrangements for the upcoming year in Islamabad on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Photo courtesy: Radio Pakistan Listen to article Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to lead a high-powered delegation to China next month in a visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and reviewing regional developments, including the May conflict between India and Pakistan. According to officials familiar with the development, the prime minister will be accompanied by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. The visit is likely to take place in August, with exact dates currently being finalised through diplomatic channels. The upcoming trip by Pakistan's top civil and military leadership carries added significance in the wake of the four-day military conflict with India during which Pakistan gained the upper hand, with its Air Force shooting down six Indian fighter jets, including the French-made Rafale. The conflict drew attention to China's military hardware, with several Western capitals closely monitoring the developments in South Asia. Chinese-made J-10C fighter jets and beyond-visual-range PL-15 missiles played a critical role. However, it was Pakistan's indigenous systems integration that made the Chinese hardware even lethal. During a recent visit to Pakistan, the chief of the Chinese Air Force expressed a keen interest in learning from Pakistan's combat experience and multi-domain operations. In a related development, the Indian Deputy Chief of Army Staff recently claimed that India was engaged in a two-front conflict, while pointing out Chinese involvement in Pakistan's military success. Pakistan procures 80 per cent of its military hardware from China. However, the Pakistan army chief at a recent Corps Commanders' meeting clarified that the May conflict was "unmistakably bilateral". When asked about the Indian general's claim, a senior Chinese official reportedly laughed off the assertion. The official reaffirmed that while Pakistan and China enjoy long-standing defence cooperation, Beijing has no desire to see conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. He noted that China consistently encourages both countries to resolve disputes through dialogue. Meanwhile, ahead of the prime minister's scheduled visit, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is expected to travel to Beijing this week. According to a Foreign Office statement, Dar will lead the Pakistani delegation at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting, taking place from July 14 to 16 in Tianjin, China. The visit comes at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Foreign ministers from all SCO member states, including Pakistan, China, Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, will participate in the CFM. Belarus will attend for the first time as a full member. The CFM is the third-highest decision-making body within the SCO framework. It deliberates on issues related to international relations and the foreign and security policies of member states. The council also finalises key documents, declarations and decisions that are later considered by the Council of Heads of State (CHS). The next CHS meeting is scheduled for August 31 to September 1, 2025, in Tianjin. During his trip, Dar is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts on the sidelines of the CFM session.

Punjab made sacrifices for unity of Pakistan: Talal Chaudhry

FAISALABAD: State Minister for Interior and senior PML-N leader Senator Talal Chaudhary said that Punjab has consistently made extraordinary sacrifices for the unity of Pakistan and these sacrifices would shatter all conspiracies against Pakistan. He was addressing a press conference on Sunday after offering condolences to the family of Sheikh Majid Ayub, a young businessman from Faisalabad, who was martyred in a terrorist attack in Zhob, Balochistan. Talal Chaudhry termed the Balochistan incident a clear precedent of Punjab's factual commitment for national solidarity and sacrifice and said Majid Ayub, who frequently travelled to Balochistan for his textile business, was targeted on his return. He embraced martyrdom in an act of terrorism that was not random, but a planned proxy attack sponsored by enemy forces with clear links to India, he added. He said that the enemy is attempting to divide Pakistan on ethnic and linguistic lines, but fails to realize that every street of Punjab houses Baloch, Pashtun, Sindhi, Kashmiri and Gilgiti brothers, who live, study, work and heal together in unity. He highlighted Punjab's historical generosity, citing its sacrifices in the NFC Award, its sharing of water resources with Balochistan and now, its blood. 'When water was needed, Punjab gave its share. When money was required, Punjab contributed and now, when blood is demanded, our sons are laying down their lives', he said. He praised the courage of Majid Ayub's mother and said that she had received her martyred son's body with pride, embodying the spirit of every Pakistani mother who sends her child to defend the homeland. Talal Chaudhary said that terrorism knows no religion, language, or ethnicity rather it is fueled by dollars and foreign agendas. He pointed directly at India's involvement, accusing it of switching from overt warfare to covert attacks through sponsored terrorist networks. However, he said that Pakistan's security forces and citizens have time and again defeated such enemies with resilience and unity. He revealed that Pakistan's security agencies conduct over 150 intelligence-based operations daily, pre-empting over 90% of planned attacks. The current counterterrorism campaign is a continuation of ongoing kinetic and non-kinetic operations in which the federal and Balochistan governments are fully aligned, he added. He said that terrorists now target soft civilian spots like markets, schools, and hospitals, which is an obvious proof of their moral and ideological bankruptcy. During press conference, Talal Chaudhary condemned political leaders who only come to Punjab for votes but remain absent when its youths are martyred. He reminded the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government of its responsibility to build Counter-Terrorism Departments, forensic labs, and smart surveillance systems to effectively combat terrorism, just as Punjab has done. He dismissed the notion that terrorists are representative of any ethnic group and said that a terrorist is neither Baloch, nor Pashtun, nor Punjabi, rather they are enemies of humanity. He outlined the horrifying statistics and said 406 attacks were made on gas installations, 56 schools were destroyed and 178 hospitals were targeted in addition to 219 ethnically-motivated attacks that claimed 514 lives and most of their victims were from Punjab. He called on all political parties and citizens to unite beyond political affiliations and support the security forces as was done during Nawaz Sharif's government when collective political support helped restore peace from Quetta to Karachi. 'We are Punjabis, Baloch, Sindhis, Pashtuns, Kashmiris and Gilgitis after we are Pakistanis first', he said, adding that the country was founded in the name of 'Kalimah Tayyabah' and its defence is a sacred duty. He referenced the recent 'Operation Sandur' as a stark reminder of what happens when enemies confront Pakistan head-on. 'Whether the threat is direct or covert, the result would always be the same i.e. total defeat for the aggressors', he added. Addressing those who seek political mileage from foreign soil, Talal Chaudhry criticized certain PTI leaders for lobbying against Pakistan abroad while instigating unrest at home. He said that many of the so-called 'missing persons' were in fact militants who had deliberately gone underground and were later killed during counterterrorism operations. Responding to a question, Talal Chaudhry expressed hope that this would be the last condolence visit he ever has to make, but he acknowledged that as long as mothers like Majid Ayub's exist who embrace their martyred sons with strength and pride, the enemy would never succeed. 'We are not fighting as Punjabis or Baloch but as Pakistanis and Pakistan would always emerge victorious, Insha Allah', he added.

Bilawal pays tribute to 22 brave Kashmiri martyrs of 1931

KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has paid glowing tribute to the 22 brave Kashmiri martyrs of July 13, 1931, whose blood marked the beginning of a resolute struggle against tyranny and injustice. He said that the sacrifice of the martyrs of Srinagar Central Jail is a timeless reminder that the spirit of freedom can never be suppressed by bullets. He added that those valiant sons of Kashmir laid down their lives not only for the right to speak, but for the dignity of an entire nation. The PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari urged that the Pakistan Peoples' Party, under the vision of Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, has always stood shoulder to shoulder with the Kashmiri people in their just struggle for self-determination. 'The legacy of July 13 lives on in the heart of every Kashmiri. We renew our commitment to their cause and reiterate that peace in the region is impossible without a just resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the aspirations of its people,' he emphasized.
