"His teachings are even more relevant in today's times": Uttarakhand CM Dhami greets Dalai Lama on 90th birthday
On the occasion, Chief Minister Dhami announced that the Buddha Temple road would be widened and a tin shed would be constructed at the Tibetan crematorium.
The Chief Minister said, 'His Holiness the Dalai Lama has shown the world the path of peace, non-violence, and compassion. His teachings are even more relevant in today's times when the world is facing many challenges.'
'Dalai Lama himself says - 'My religion is compassion' - this idea makes him the true spiritual guru of the world,' CM Dhami added.
The Chief Minister said that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has always provided love, respect and security to the Tibetan community. He said that the state government will continue to protect the interests of the Tibetan community as well as provide all possible support for their cultural, educational and social development.
While praying to God, the Chief Minister said that His Holiness the Dalai Lama should be blessed with good health and a long life so that he can continue to guide future generations with his invaluable thoughts and teachings.
Meanwhile, the Dalai Lama celebrated his 90th birthday in Dharamshala on Sunday with an address focusing on the values of compassion, service, and the Bodhichitta way of life.
Speaking before a gathering at the Tsuglagkhang temple, he reflected on his spiritual journey and urged everyone to follow a path of kindness and selflessness.
Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh, along with other dignitaries and well-wishers, attended the celebration.
In his speech, the Dalai Lama spoke about the importance of love, unity and service to others. 'As far as I am concerned, I have a human life. As humans, it is natural for us to have love in our hearts for one another and to help one another. Since we come from a country where Buddhist religion and spirituality have spread, there is a strong sense of brotherhood and sisterhood among us. The main practice is as said in Bodhisattva way of life -- considering all beings as my friends and relatives, and I always think of serving beings with the best of my abilities,' he said. (ANI)

Banakacherla river row: CM Revanth Reddy on 2-day Delhi visit; to seek aid for Telangana project approvals
HYDERABAD: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy will leave for New Delhi on Monday on a two-day visit. He will be meeting Union ministers to seek approval for key projects as well as release of central funds for them. The CM is likely to meet Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari, seeking approval and funding for the southern corridor of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project, and cabinet approvals for both the northern and southern corridors of the project. The Congress govt in the state has already declared the area between the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the proposed RRR as Telangana's semi-urban area, where industrial clusters would be set up. Revanth would also address the issue of the Musi rejuvenation project, industrial and defence corridors, and fertiliser supply, and seek forest and environmental clearances for various projects. The CM, along with minister D Sridhar Babu and PonnamPrabhakar, was supposed to meet Union home minister Amit Shah during his visit to Telangana recently. However, Shah, due to his busy schedule, did not meet even his party leaders who had planned a programme at the Begumpet airport. Revanth is also set to invite AICC leader Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi for the public meetings to be organised in Telangana. In May, Revanth had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital and urged him to approve a dedicated channel for Telangana to attract global investments and boost exports. He also requested the issuance of a notification for the Hyderabad-Bengaluru defence corridor, support for defence and aerospace projects, approval to include Telangana in India's Semiconductor Mission, and the Union cabinet's approval and funding for Hyderabad Metro rail expansion, RRR, and the dry port greenfield corridor with dedicated railway lines around it. He met the Prime Minister immediately after the NITI Aayog meeting.

762 PM SHRI schools in Odisha soon, says Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan
JEYPORE: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday said 762 new PM SHRI schools will be set up across the state soon. Addressing a gathering at Vikram Deb University in Jeypore, Pradhan said, 'Earlier, there was little interest from the previous government in implementing the PM SHRI scheme. However, with the new BJP-led government in power in Odisha, the path has been cleared for the roll-out of these schools, which will significantly benefit students.' An estimated Rs 1,500 crore has been earmarked for setting up the 762 schools which are expected to become operational soon. Pradhan said the 'double-engine' government is committed to the development of tribal areas in undivided Koraput district. He announced that the Central University of Odisha (CUO) will soon see infrastructure upgrades, and a new Kendriya Vidyalaya will be established in Jeypore.

14th Dalai Lama NEW DELHI: In a strong show of support for the Tibetan cause, a cross-party forum of MPs has passed a resolution urging the government to confer the Bharat Ratna on the Dalai Lama and allow him to address a joint sitting of Parliament -- a move that's likely to irk China once again. The all-party Indian parliamentary forum for Tibet, which includes MPs from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Janata Dal (United), adopted the resolutions during its second meeting this month. The group had drawn sharp criticism from Beijing following its inaugural sitting in December last year. Led by BJD Rajya Sabha MP Sujeeth Kumar, the 10-member committee has also launched a signature campaign supporting the Dalai Lama's Bharat Ratna nomination. 'We have initiated a signature campaign to award Bharat Ratna to His Holiness Dalai Lama. Many MPs have come forward and some of them have sent video messages supporting the campaign. We will be writing to the Speaker of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to convene a joint sitting which will be addressed by His Holiness,' Kumar, who is also the convenor of the forum said, according to ET. Taking the campaign a step further, Arunachal Pradesh MP Tapir Gao proposed a mass rally in support of Tibet to raise public awareness. "He further suggested that the Dalai Lama address the Central Hall of the Parliament on topics such as peace and compassion," stated the resolution. The forum has also expressed admiration for a recent pro-Tibet bill passed by the US Congress and encouraged similar legislation to be introduced in India's Parliament. Additionally, members discussed the implementation of the 2014 Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy, urging fellow MPs to visit Tibetan settlements and press local administrations for basic amenities. "We have requested all the MPs to reach out to the district administration and respective state governments so that land and amenities such as roads, electrification and drinking water are ensured for Tibetan rehabilitation," Kumar added. As per the 2014 policy guidelines issued by the Union home ministry, state governments are required to lease land occupied by Tibetan refugees for 20 years, issue rent tenancy certificates, and ensure welfare benefits and infrastructure support in settlements. "The land under the occupation by the Tibetan refugees should not be disturbed and welfare benefits of state government schemes should be extended to them. The state authorities have been advised to extend the infrastructural facilities and basic amenities like roads, electrification, drinking water schemes in or around the Tibetan settlements," said the home ministry's directive. The forum's assertiveness marks a renewed political engagement with the Tibetan cause -- one that continues to test India's diplomatic balancing act with China.
