Tom Walker pours water over rumours Lewis Capaldi making surprise TRNSMT appearance
Tom Walker has poured cold water on rumours that Lewis Capaldi will make a surprise appearance at TRNSMT.
The Leave A Light On singer, 33, recently performed a show in Edinburgh alongside pal Lewis Capaldi - the West Lothian singer's first show in two years – for the suicide prevention charity CALM. The low key gig was the first live appearance by the Someone You Loved singer weeks before his surprise Glastonbury set.
And Tom says that seeing Lewis make his comeback with the charity gig and then at Glastonbury after taking a hiatus from making music two years ago has been inspirational. Capaldi has since reached No1 in the charts with his current single Survive and will play two dates at Glasgow's OVO Hydro in September.
Responding to the rumours that the Someone You Loved singer might be tempted to make an appearance at Glasgow Green yesterday, Walker said: 'I know nothing about that. Nobody tells me anything. It was an inspirational thing to see that Lewis do that wee gig in Edinburgh and then a matter of weeks later, taking on the Pyramid Stage the way he did.
'I think just what he's achieved is incredible. I watched his set at the Pyramid stage with my mates and I was in awe of the comeback that he's just made. It's just really inspirational. I think it's a great thing for people who've got their own demons to battle to see that it is possible and you can get through the other side.
'It was a proper moment and he absolutely smashed it. His voice was amazing. The whole thing was just so good. So I'm so so pleased for him. And what a comeback. Just absolutely amazing.
'Credit to him. It's no joke what he's achieved. It's massive.'
Walker was among the artists taking precautions in the sunshine on Sunday.
Walker, who also played Glastonbury in June, said: 'I like to buy Factor 100 and at the same time wear a beanie which is a confusing remedy for the sunshine. But a beanie will keep you cool. That's a well known fact. TRNSMT is a great festival. It's not quite the size of Glastonbury but it is such a good vibe.
'Every time we've played it, it's just been an awesome reaction. It's got a similar kind of feeling to it, in terms of how excited the crowd ought to see the favourite acts. Glastonbury is such an easy gig, because everyone's just really happy to be there and they're having a great time. And I do feel like TRNSMT has a similar vibe to it.'
Walker, who opened the King Tut's stage in 2018, played a blistering set on the main stage on Sunday.
He said: 'It's always nice playing gigs when everybody's in the sunshine and they're all really happy. That is quite easy. I'll take the sunshine over the rain all day.'

'Getting to come and tour is one of the best experiences of my life.' Eleanora, 17, and her two friends came to Sunday's show to see Abrams. She described TRNSMT as 'the most amazing experience you'll ever have', while her friend Lauren Wilkie, 17, said it was 'a pure blast'. Niamh, 17, said: 'Fontaines DC have been the best so far, I have to say. 'Just the general atmosphere, it's so fun seeing people dressed up. 'Fontaines were actually insane. Our group was just jumping around getting pushed about but it was so good, we loved it.' Kira McCaffery, 20, said the atmosphere this weekend was 'absolutely electric', adding: 'I have loved it this year. The sun has been splitting the sky.' Her friend, Mia Moohan, 22, said she was 'buzzing' to see Abrams. She praised this year's line-up, saying there was 'more going on' for festival-goers. Ms McCaffery said there was 'something for everyone'. Friends Matthew Turner, 17, Mitchell Mure, 18, and Liam, 16, were less impressed with the line-up. Asked if they were sad the festival was coming to an end, they all said: 'Not really, no.' 'My legs are sore,' Liam said. Mitchell added: 'It was so much better last year.'
