Tesla Model S, Model X Receive Minor Design And Range Revisions

NDTV16-06-2025

The USA-based electric car manufacturer - Tesla, has rolled out minor updates to its Model S sedan and Model X SUV for buyers around the world. These changes focus on practical improvements, like better range, increased comfort, and quieter cabins, while keeping the core design of the vehicles untouched.
Tesla Model S & Model X: Exterior Changes
The updates to the exterior are subtle. Both models now have updated alloy wheels, 19-inches for the Model S and 20-inches for the Model X with options to upgrade to 21-inches and 22-inches respectively.
The Plaid trims feature sportier bumpers, designed for better stability at high speeds. Additionally, Plaid versions now come with a forward-facing camera and a new "Frost Blue" paint option.
Tesla Model S & Model X: Interior Updates
Tesla has worked on the improvement of the cabin's comfort and NVH levels. The interior features customizable ambient lighting with new color options and an updated welcome sequence for drivers and passengers. Active Noise Cancellation has also been improved, reducing outside noise, especially on highways.
One notable change is that the yoke-style steering wheel is now only available on Plaid models and is no longer standard on other versions.
Tesla Model S & Model X: Range and Performance Upgrades
Tesla's latest models feature a notable increase in range. The Model S Long Range now offers up to 660 km on a single charge, making it the longest-range option from Tesla to date. However, these enhancements come with some trade-offs. The top speed of the Model S Plaid has been reduced from 321 kmph to 240 kmph, for which Tesla has not provided specific reasons.
The Model X has also seen improvements, with the Long Range version achieving 567 km and the Plaid version reaching 539 km, which is an increase of 61 km and 33 km, respectively.
Tesla Model S & Model X: Price
The updated Model S and Model X come with a price increase of 5,000 USD (approximately Rs 4.3 Lakh). Tesla refers to these changes as an upgrade rather than a full redesign.

Tesla employee quits after 7 years over Elon Musk's behaviour, 'Nazi salute': 'Ashamed to tell people where I work'

Trae Cervantes, a former engineering technician at Tesla, revealed why he departed from the electric vehicle manufacturing giant in March 2025 after a seven-year tenure at the company's Gigafactory in Nevada. His decision to quit was not due to the demanding 12-hour shifts or the company's culture, but rather a growing moral conflict stemming from CEO Elon Musk's increasingly controversial public behaviour. Cervantes' tenure in the Electric Vehicle (EV) giant began in 2018 as a production associate. He was drawn to the company during a difficult period in his life, aiming to improve his life after personal struggles. "I was drawn to Tesla because I needed a way to improve my situation," he told Business Insider. 'I'd gone through a divorce, I got arrested for drinking and driving, and I was working two jobs to make ends meet.' During that time, one of Cervantes' best friends who was working in Tesla advised him to apply. 'When I got the job, I quit the two jobs and immediately got a better-paying role with more time off," he recalled. Cervantes quickly advanced through multiple roles during his tenure and praised Tesla for offering him career growth and better pay without a formal education. Despite this, a significant shift in his loyalty began to occur due to Elon Musk's increasingly controversial public actions. While there had always been a "cult of personality" around the Tesla CEO, Cervantes initially "believed in the mission". Even early controversies like Musk smoking weed on the Joe Rogan incident or the 'Thai diver incident' did not deter his commitment. The turning point came with Musk's deeper involvement in Twitter and politics, which Cervantes felt was "detracting from the company's mission." The "giveaway for prospective voters" struck Cervantes as "morally wrong," making him actively dig into Musk's history and the company's unfulfilled promises like full self-driving vehicles. The breaking point arrived with an incident in which Musk appeared to make a "Nazi salute", leading Cervantes to feel "ashamed to tell people where I work". Even though Cervantes chose to leave without a job lined up, he had an explanation: "I have to leave. I can't do this anymore. It's getting to a point where I feel like I'm compromising myself morally by walking through those doors every day." Despite the emotional difficulty of leaving a place that transformed his life, Cervantes asserted, "I didn't leave the place because of the company. I left because of the face of the company."

Watch: Cowboy Hat-Wearing "Jake The Rizzbot" Interacts With People

A talking robot has astounded both - the Austin residents and the online community - with its mastery of Gen Z and Gen Alpha vocabulary. Meet Jake the Rizzbot, a child-sized AI-powered robot, which is operated using a wireless controller. Fitted with a silver chain and a fake cowboy hat on its head, the machine has "IN TRAINING" printed on its chest. Videos of Jake interacting with people at The Domain in downtown Austin and North Austin have surfaced on social media. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jesse Hernandez (@jesseh7203) The bot tried to jog down pavements and even chatted to amazed onlookers and impressed Austin residents with his "rizz." On the recent test run, Jake's owner was excited to show off his newest device and enjoyed informing onlookers that they "might get to see it faint" when Jake's battery began to run low. "Hey! I'm Jake, but you might know me better as Rizzbot. It's nice to meet you," Jake said in a viral video, before immediately launching into the laudatory adulation. "You look clean, nephew. That moustache is hard and that beard is cold, ma homie. That white t-shirt is amazing, and that black wristwatch is completely frosted out," Jake added. The bot used several Gen Z and Gen Alpha words, saying, "You've got that badass energy G, that clean drip locked down, and you're rocking it in style. Props to you, you are a solid boss 'fo real." People on the internet were astounded by Jake's flicks, and some were even concerned about the implications of bots like him for the development of artificial intelligence. "More like glaze bot holyyy," one user commented. "Jake always been a chill guy," a second comment read. "The first iteration of the terminator," said one. The robot stands at four feet tall and weighs 170 kg. It was created by China-based Unitree Robotics, which debuted the Unitree G1 humanoid agent in May, as per The NY Post. The Unitree website states that the price is approximately $16,000 (almost Rs 13.7 lakh), although it frequently varies. The robot is intended to function as an "AI avatar" that grows "based on deep reinforcement learning and simulation training."
