New Golden Bachelor's Comments On Age Draw Backlash
There's a new golden bachelor in town, but I'm not sure if he will be as polished as previous gentlemen in his position.
In season 2 of The Golden Bachelor, the lucky leading man is Mel Owens, a 66-year-old former NFL player who was a linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams.
Before that, he played college football for the University of Michigan Wolverines, and let me tell you, it's pretty obvious because he's got the problematic locker room talk down pat.
On a June 10 episode of the Michigan football podcast MGoBlue Podcasts With Jon Jansen, Mel revealed what he's looking for in the bachelorettes for the upcoming season premiere. He said during the casting process, the producers asked him," 'What's your preferences?' so I just said, '45 to 60,' just being honest."
After Mel was chosen, he claimed he had lunch with the executive producer and told him, "If they're 60 or over, I'm cutting them.
He said the producer told him, "Oh, man you can't—this is not The Silver Bachelor, this is The Golden Bachelor. But they're going to be hot, don't worry about it, don't worry about it,'" while also explaining he "'can't use the word cut.'"
According to the series website, the executive producers of The Golden Bachelor are Claire Freeland, Jason Ehrlich, Bennett Graebner, and Andrew Frank.
Mel said the explained cut is "an NFL term."
But he didn't stop there. Elaborating on his age parameters, like he's recruiting a high school senior quarterback, he said, "They've got to be fit, because I stay in shape and work out and stuff. And I told them to try to stay away from the artificial hips and the wigs. That kind of stuff."
When the podcast host asked what he was looking for, Mel added that he was looking for someone who's "a lifetime learner" and "enjoys life, and workouts, stays fit, eat and have fun," and "be energetic."
Unfortunately, Mel's comments are going viral, and the reactions on the r/thebachelor Reddit thread show that people are not too pleased.
One user wrote, "i already hate this man with a burning passion, and not in a way that makes me want to watch him on TV. This is why I don't mess with The Bachelor anymore."
Someone else said, "Honestly I'm side-eyeing the exec producer the most - he told you these things and you still decided to move forward with him?"
"The wigs and artificial hips comment is actually cruel and deranged. Nobody wants their hair to thin or to have a hip replacement but it happens. How horrible to say a woman isn't worthy of him because of it. He's gross. I'm definitely not watching, unless only women who want to tell him off apply for the sole purpose of doing so on-air," another user wrote.
This person wrote, "Locking in my prediction now: he's going to pick one of the youngest women on his season, dump her within six months, and by this time next year he'll be going to Bachelor hangouts and flirting with the 20-somethings.
"Ew, really? Men who can't appreciate women their own age and demand younger women are gross. I'm so grateful my husband only seems to find me more attractive as I age! And why shouldn't he? He's aging too, something these men all to often forget 🤦🏻♀️," another person said.
This Redditor said, "Listing his range as 45-60 is so weird. I'm turning 44 this summer, and I can't imagine being with a man 20+ years older than me. Even if he is "fit." This guy needs to be humbled."
"Why in the world did they pick someone so unlikeable? They ruined everything that people liked about the first season," another Redditor wrote.
And finally, someone hilarious asked, "have men ever considered literally just shutting the fuck up?"
The general consensus is there's a red flag on the play for the former NFL linebacker. What are your thoughts about the new Golden Bachelor? Let's huddle in the comments.

Woman Says Husband Is Being 'Gaslit' by His ‘Extremely Nosy' Mom, Who Is Constantly Crossing Boundaries on Her Visits
A woman who recently gave birth says her mother-in-law is gaslighting her husband and being "extremely nosy" In an anonymous Reddit post, she writes that her mother-in-law was insensitive during her hospital stay — and then tried to stay with the couple once she went home Now, she's thinking about going no-contact with her in-lawsA woman says her husband is being "gaslit" by his "extremely nosy" mother — and she's had enough. In a post shared to Reddit, the anonymous woman writes that her mother-in-law "doesn't care two hoots about respecting boundaries," and often eats food off her son's plate, lies down in bed with him with their legs touching, and keeps her toothbrush in the couple's toothbrush holder when she comes to visit. The mother-in-law also criticizes the Reddit user's cooking skills and decorating choices — only to start "crying" when the poster "very politely" asks her to stop. "I had come to terms with the fact that she's a manipulative and stubborn gaslighter," she writes. But things changed after the woman's recent pregnancy, which was "complicated" by a rough delivery. "I developed paralytic ileus after delivery. My mother, my (pregnant) sister were there for me throughout the pregnancy and the hospital stay and my brother was there on phone throughout to uplift my morale," she writes, noting that they helped her deal with doctors and postpartum "blues." While her family provided her with "support, love, and endless care" throughout the process, her mother-in-law and husband only complained. is now available in the Apple App Store! "She and her son would only talk of food and how the hospital restaurant doesn't have good tasting food," she writes, "and she would prepare food at home and get it daily for [my husband] and they would gorge on food while I would be lying in bed witn an RT tube down my nose and multiple IV lines." "She would talk to her relatives on phone shouting at top voice about how I have 'gas' due to poor eating habits and unnecessarily being kept there," she continues. "Also, she was extremely uncouth and rough with [my baby], shaking him so much while soothing him. I was sooooo scared everytime she lifted him." After she got home from the hospital, the mother-in-law asked to stay with the couple. The poster turned down the offer, only to be inundated with calls and texts asking to see the baby. The mother-in-law also told her son "not to bother about baby duties," because "he has to go to [the] office and needs rest." "Basically she wanted me to break down so that she would swoop in," the woman writes. On top of that, the poster's mother-in-law and sister-in-laws have been guilt-tripping her about her breastfeeding choices. Now, she wants to go no-contact with her in-laws, but is "apprehensive" that her husband is "not thinking straight." Reddit commenters weighed in on the situation, with many telling the woman she needs to distance herself from her husband's family — and maybe even him. "This is where you tell hubby he needs therapy or a divorce lawyer. His choice," one commenter wrote. "Girl you need to stand up for yourself. Firm, calm, firm. This is YOUR baby," another added. Taylor Swift singing own song with 49ers superstar is the best TEU video
The videos and photos that came out of Tight End University -- the days-long event founded and run by Travis Kelce and other NFL TEs -- with Taylor Swift have been the best. There was mostly her Shake It Off performance at a TEU party that included an adorable Kelce moment that had her boyfriend posting on social media. And now? There's a video of Swift and San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle singing Love Story at one of these TEU parties. It's a delight! We get the joy of Swift singing her own song as if she was a fan, and Kittle just blasting it. And I think that's Kelce singing along when the phone pans. What more can we say? It's been awesome to see Swift supporting Kelce -- he's also been so supportive of her since they started dating -- and hanging out with other tight ends. More, please!
