Who would the Vikings select if they could go back and re-do the Lewis Cine pick?
Kwesi Adofo-Mensah's tenure as Minnesota Vikings general manager got off to a rough start on the first night of the 2022 NFL Draft. He traded down from pick 12 to pick 32 to select Georgia safety Lewis Cine.
Unfortunately, Cine never made an impact in Minnesota. A compound fracture in his leg prematurely ended his rookie season. He only played ten defensive snaps in two seasons before being released before the 2024 season.
Who should the Vikings have taken instead? PFF compiled a list, re-drafting each team's worst draft pick from the past five years. Cine was the obvious choice for the Vikings. In this re-draft, PFF has the Vikings select safety Jalen Pitre, who was originally selected 37th overall by the Houston Texans.
In the three years since getting drafted, Cine has played in just 11 games and has one career tackle. He's currently on the Philadelphia Eagles' roster and will be fighting to make the team during training camp.
New Pick: S Jalen Pitre (originally 37th by the Houston Texans)
Meanwhile, Pitre was drafted just five spots later and has become a fixture of the Texans defense. He's managed to rack up six interceptions, 21 passes defended and nearly 300 total tackles, earning a three-year, $39 million contract extension during the 2024 offseason.
Of course, the obvious decision now would be not even to bother trading down and instead select Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton. The Ravens selected him 14th overall, and Hamilton has lived up to the hype, receiving two Pro Bowl nods and being chosen as a First-Team All-Pro in 2024.
The Cine pick still stings in Minnesota and sets the narrative about Adofo-Mensah's ability to draft. If he had to do it again, the GM would be wise to take either Hamilton at 12 or Pitre later in the round.

Cowboys' Jake Ferguson Labeled 'Bounce-Back Candidate'
Cowboys' Jake Ferguson Labeled 'Bounce-Back Candidate' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After being named to the Pro Bowl in 2023, this past season was a disappointing one for Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson. Advertisement But it might not have been all his fault. In a recent article by Bleacher Report's Moe Moton, he lists some of the players he thinks are poised for a bounce-back in 2025. And the Cowboys star is one of the players that he mentions. "With the Cowboys' uninspiring running back group, expect Prescott to fire away through the air for stretches in the upcoming term," Moton wrote. "He'll have enough targets to spread around for Ferguson to get back into Pro Bowl form." Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott missed a good portion of the season due to a hamstring injury, so he only played in eight games. Not so coincidentally, that is when Ferguson was getting more consistent targets. Advertisement The 26-year-old tight end finished the 2023 season with 761 yards and five touchdowns, which are some very solid numbers for a second-year tight end. However, this past season, he was targeted almost 20 less times. But his QB will hopefully be able to stay on the field and throw him the ball in 2025. Dallas missed the playoffs for the first time since 2020 this past season. As a result, Ferguson and the rest of the offense will be looking to help lead the team back to the postseason to redeem themselves after what was a disappointing 2024 all around. Watch: Every sack from Seahawks DE Leonard Williams in 2024
Leonard Williams came in at No. 99 as the NFL released the first batch of their annual player-voted Top 100 List on Monday morning. He had a career year in 2024, reaching his second Pro Bowl and finishing 14th in NFL AP Defensive Player of the Year Voting. Here are all his sacks from his second season in Seattle, where you can see the mismatches he created to get to double-digit sacks for just the second time in his career. His 11 sacks were the most by a Seahawks defender since Frank Clark in 2018. Head Coach Mike Macdonald utilized Williams' massive frame and elite athleticism in a versatile role between the interior defensive line positions. The physical dominance that earned him the nickname 'Big Cat' was as present as ever in his age 30 season, especially highlighted by the stamina that allows him to stay low and wide while coming downhill in the narrow interior gaps. You can see him use these tools on tape to clean up two sacks against the New England Patriots in Week 2, and to chase down Kyler Murray to the outside in the Seahawks' Week 14 Win against the Arizona Cardinals. Advertisement The Seahawks restructured Williams' contract in February to open up cap space before free agency. He's under contract through 2026 and will look to continue his late-career consistency to have one more chance at a lucrative payday in the open market in 2027. Steelers' Blockbuster Trade Includes Pro Bowl Tight End as Aaron Rodgers Target
Steelers' Blockbuster Trade Includes Pro Bowl Tight End as Aaron Rodgers Target originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers were searching for answers in the weeks after trading receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. With a handful of veteran free agents available at receiver, there have plenty of options to comb through. Advertisement However, the Steelers have also gotten creative. The team investigated diving deeper into 12 personnel by checking in on Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith. ... And on Monday, they traded for him. Jonnu folds into the same blockbuster swap that brings to Pittsburgh the All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The deal as a whole: The Dolphins have agreed to deal Ramsey, Smith and a 2027 seventh-round pick to Pittsburgh in exchange for Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. This all comes on the heels of agent Drew Rosenhaus saying Jonnu wanted to stay with Miami. "Here's what I will say on behalf of my client: Jonnu would definitely like to stay in Miami," Rosenhaus said, via the Miami Herald. "That's his first choice. This is where he lives in the offseason. He had a record-breaking season last year. It was the best season ever for a Miami Dolphin tight end. ... He broke the team record for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns for a tight end and was the team's single Pro Bowl player. He's an incredibly valuable part of this team. ... He went to college at FIU.' Advertisement He did indeed put up numbers there; Last season, Smith had the best campaign of his career, hauling in 88 catches for 884 yards and eight scores. But Miami didn't want to foot the financial bill here (as was the case with Ramsey) as Jonnu is getting a one-year extension in Pittsburgh worth a reported $12 million. Starting tight end Pat Freiermuth is a viable first-teamer, but Smith has long been the apple of offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's eye as the two worked together in Tennessee. The former is versatile enough to play in-line and in the slot, and Smith's ability to make plays over the middle of the field and after the catch mimics a receiver's impact. With Darnell Washington adding an imposing blocking presence to the line, the Steelers could remain multi-faceted, even with heavier personnel on the field. ... as now they have three tight ends who figure as helpers in the Aaron Rodgers-led offense.
