Ops Mega Khas: 117 people detained in Kuala Muda district
Kedah Criminal Investigation Department (CID) head SAC Muhammad Yazid Muhammad Yew said the arrests included 51 individuals who tested positive for drugs and 22 people who were on the police's wanted list.
He said the operation was conducted at locations and against suspects who were identified as contributing to an increase in the crime index in the district.
'The operation was targeted at elements of gambling, immorality, gangsterism, potential criminals such as drug addicts and traffickers, as well as areas identified as high-crime areas.
'As a result, we managed to successfully solve 66 property crime cases involving housebreaking and theft that occurred in the Kuala Muda district,' he said in a statement here today.
He also said that the integrated operation involved 163 police officers and personnel as well as other agencies including the Sungai Petani Municipal Council, Health Ministry, Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Department of Environment.
'This operation proves the commitment of the Kedah police contingent in ensuring that the safety and well-being of the community is maintained. This enforcement action will be implemented from time to time,' he added.

KUALA LUMPUR: Some RM721,239 worth of case items, including pornographic Video Compact Discs (VCDs), fake cash and mobile phones have been disposed of by the police. "It will also free up space in our evidence storage and prevent any theft of case items or any of it going to the wrong hands," he added. Among the items being disposed of were pornographic VCDs, contraband, mobile phones, forged cash and computers, ACP Ku Mashariman said. "The forged cash seized was worth US$400,000 (RM1.6mil). We busted a group of foreigners last year trying to sell these notes, claiming they could exchange US dollars to ringgit at a lower rate. "The suspects would wrap up the cash in plastic, to make it seem that the dollar notes were real. "The suspects were subsequently charged and sentenced to a year and three months in prison upon conviction," he said.

Police kill two robbery gang leaders in Cheras shootout
KUALA LUMPUR: Two foreign men believed to be the masterminds of an armed robbery and housebreaking gang were killed in a shootout with police at Jalan Semerah Padi, Cheras, early this morning.
