Egypt condemns deadly terrorist attack on mosque in Niger - Foreign Affairs
Egypt has condemned a "treacherous terrorist attack" targeting innocent worshippers outside a mosque in Niger's southwestern village of Manda, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries,
According to a statement issued by the foreign ministry on Tuesday, Egypt reaffirmed its full support for the government and people of Niger in their fight against terrorism and extremism.
Egypt also offered its condolences to the victims' families and the government and people of Niger, wishing the injured a quick recovery.
The attack occurred on Friday, when suspected Islamic State-affiliated militants ambushed worshippers on their way to Friday prayers, in Niger's Tillaberi region, killing at least 71 people, according to AFP.
Egypt urged the international community to intensify efforts to support the Sahel countries in their war against terrorist organizations, and called for coordinated action to eliminate extremist strongholds and combat terrorism in all its forms.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents across Niger in recent week.
In May, a deadly attack by suspected Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS) militants on a military outpost in Eknewan killed 41 Nigerien soldiers.
Moreover, in March, a terrorist attack targeted a mosque in the village of Fambita in southwestern Niger during Friday prayers, killing at least 44 people and injuring 13.

Gaza's civil defence agency said Israeli air strikes and gunfire killed at least 14 people including three children in the war-stricken Palestinian territory on Sunday. Civil defence spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told AFP that 13 people died in air strikes at four locations around the Gaza Strip, and another from Israeli fire near an aid distribution centre. Bassal said two children were killed in an air strike on their home in Gaza City's Zeitun neighbourhood in the early morning, and 'the house was completely destroyed.' 'We evacuated more than 20 injured people, including two martyrs -- two children from the family. The screams of children and women were non-stop,' Azzam said. 'They bombed the house with a missile without any prior warning. This is a horrific crime. We sleep without knowing if we will wake up.' Elsewhere, Bassal said a drone strike on a tent housing displaced people near the southern city of Khan Yunis killed five people including a child. He said that other casualties included a young man killed 'by Israeli fire this morning while waiting for aid' near a humanitarian distribution centre in the southern city of Rafah. Gaza evacuation order The Israeli military issued an evacuation order on Sunday for parts of Gaza City and nearby areas in the territory's north, warning of imminent action there. The military 'will operate with intense force in these areas, and these military operations will intensify and expand', military spokesman Avichay Adraee said in a statement posted on X. He told residents to 'evacuate immediately south' to Al-Mawasi area on the coast. Coptic Church mourns 20 Syrians martyred at Damascus church in suicide bombing
The Coptic Orthodox Church issued a statement on 22 June mourning the 20 martyrs who lost their lives earlier that day in a suicide bombing in the church of Saint Elias in Damascus,Syria. The statement read: 'The Coptic Orthodox Church, led by Pope Tawadros II, bids farewell to the martyrs of Syria as they march towards the paradise of eternal joy. These martyrs fell as a result of the treacherous suicide bombing that took place inside the church of Saint Elias in the Douilaa in Damascus, Syria on Sunday 22 June 2025. 'We condemn the heinous bombing and all similar forms of violence, intimidation, and the stripping of any human being of their natural right to live in safety. The blood of the righteous Abel continues to cry out, bearing witness to human injustice towards fellow humans when evil takes control and the scale of righteousness is upset, so as to leading to a belief that killing is a good deed that pleases God. 'We pray that the comfort of the Holy Spirit fills the heart of our brother, His Beatitude Patriarch John X Yazigi, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East for the Greek Orthodox Church, as well as the hearts of the martyrs' families. According to Reuters, at least 20 people were killed and dozens injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up at Mar-Elias Church in the Dweila neighbourhood of Syria's capital Damascus on Sunday 22 June. Syria's Interior Ministry said the suicide bomber was a member of IS, Islamic State. He entered the church, opened fire and then detonated his explosive vest. Syria's Health Ministry reported that 52 persons were also injured in the blast. Scenes from inside the church showed destruction, a bloodied floor, and shattered pews and masonry. Local Church sources say the church included between 350 and 400 worshippers that day. Islamic State has been behind several attempted attacks on churches in Syria since Assad's fall. The Syria martyrs have been mourned by Churches in Egypt and all throughout the region, also by the Councils of Egypt and Middle East Churches. They unanimously expressed pain, dubbing the bombing 'a wound in our heart', and expressed fears for Christian presence in the Middle East. Qatar sees 'window of opportunity' for Gaza truce: Spokesman - War on Gaza
Qatar's foreign ministry said on Friday that mediators are engaging with both Israel and Hamas to build on momentum from this week's ceasefire with Iran and push for a truce in the Gaza Strip. 'If we don't utilise this window of opportunity and this momentum, it's an opportunity lost amongst many in the near past. We don't want to see that again,' spokesman Majed al-Ansari told AFP. The Qatari statement came shortly after US President Donald Trump said a ceasefire in Gaza could be reached 'within the next week'. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said: 'We think within the next week we're going to get a ceasefire. We're working on Gaza and trying to get it taken care of.' The United States brokered a temporary ceasefire during the final days of Joe Biden's presidency, with involvement from Trump's incoming administration. That agreement collapsed in March when Israel resumed its war on Gaza, launching a wave of air and ground attacks that killed more than 400 people in the first days alone. Since then, Israeli bombardments have continued across the Gaza Strip. According to Gaza's health ministry, 6,008 Palestinians have been killed and 20,591 wounded since Israel resumed strikes on 18 March.
