Lee Min-ho Says He Had ‘No Idea' About His Link With Jisoo In Omniscient Reader
While many characters appear in Omniscient Reader: The Prophet, Lee Min-ho found his character's link with Ji-hye, played by BLACKPINK's Jisoo, puzzling.
Lee Min-ho is making his long-awaited return to the big screen after nearly a decade, starring in the upcoming film Omniscient Reader: The Prophet. He takes on the role of Yoo Joong-hyuk, a formidable warrior trapped in a relentless cycle of destruction and rebirth.
Ahead of the film's release, Lee Min-ho opened up about his experience with the character and the story. While the movie features a wide cast of characters, he admitted that he found Yoo Joong-hyuk's connection with Ji-hye, played by BLACKPINK's Jisoo, particularly puzzling. Despite their bond playing a significant role in the narrative, Lee confessed that he wasn't entirely sure how their characters were connected.
Speaking with the Korean Herald, the actor said, 'I honestly had no idea how we were even connected. I was flying blind." Interestingly, the upcoming movie marks Jisoo's big screen debut. She plays a warrior who fights alongside Lee Min-ho's character.
Despite having multiple members, Lee Min-ho's character spends most of the time alone in Omniscient Reader: The Prophet. Speaking about this experience, the actor said, 'I'll be honest, it was lonely and desolate. If you think about it, this is the protagonist of protagonists. Normally, when we talk about a main character, we build their emotional arc throughout the film. My biggest challenge was figuring out how to fill those gaps convincingly."
Lee Min-ho didn't approach his character with the goal of simply making him look 'cool." Instead, he focused on portraying Yoo Joong-hyuk as a deeply complex figure who has already endured countless struggles and reached the final stages of his journey. Lee concentrated on capturing the character's inner growth and evolving perspective on the world. To truly understand Yoo Joong-hyuk, Lee reflected on themes like life, death, and the emotional toll of reliving the same painful events over and over. Other than Lee Min-ho and Jisoo, Omniscient Reader: The Prophet also stars Ahn Hyo-seop, Chae Soo-bin, Shin Seung-ho and Nana. The movie is scheduled to be released in South Korean theatres on July 23.

In an interview with Zoom, the actor reflected on one of the film's most emotional scenes and shared, 'On Dhadak's set, Janhvi and I could lean onto each other." He further explained, 'My character is going through a lot of conflict. He is trying to be a man for her but he is not able to. He is dealing with his own issues. He has been uprooted from his family. You can see the cracks in him, his vulnerability. He is trying to be supportive, but inevitably he's dealing with his own demons." In Homebound, Ishaan stars alongside Janhvi Kapoor and Vishal Jethwa. The story follows two childhood friends—Shoaib Ali (played by Ishaan) and Chandan Kumar (played by Vishal)—who hail from a North Indian village and are determined to break free from the burden of their marginalised identities. However, a series of events leads to internal and external conflicts that test their bond. While the film has already garnered international attention at Cannes, its theatrical release date is still under wraps. Homebound marks a significant reunion for Ishaan and Janhvi, and fans are excited to see the duo together on screen once again.
