Big Brother's best bits! From the iconic Nasty Nick and late Nikki Grahame to THAT hot tub scene - the show's most memorable moments as it marks its 25th anniversary

Daily Mail19-07-2025
It has been 25 years since the first series of Big Brother hit TV screens in 2000, captivating the British public and becoming an instant classic.
Deemed TV's 'first social experiment', the concept of contestants being locked in a house together and surveilled 24 hours a day was at that time a baffling one.
The show's name was inspired by the famous George Orwell quote 'Big Brother is watching you' from his dystopian novel 1984, with contestants' every move watched via nightly episodes and live streams.
Big Brother first launched on Channel 4 at the turn of the millennium hosted by Davina McCall, and immediately became a ratings hit.
Despite its popularity, falling ratings and budget cuts saw Big Brother axed by Channel 4 in 2010 - only for Channel 5 to quickly acquire the rights the following year, with its version first presented by former winner Brian Dowling before Emma Willis took over as host in 2013.
However it was axed for a second time in 2018, only to be revived yet again in 2023 by ITV fronted by joint hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best.
Famous for its controversial and sometimes scandalous moments, Big Brother was responsible for some of the wildest scenes to ever grace British TV screens - including a Pamela Anderson cameo.
From Nasty Nick and the late Nikki Graheme's iconic 'Who is she?' rant to THAT hot tub scene between Anthony Hutton and Makosi Musambasi - here are Big Brother's best bits as it turns 25.
Nasty Nick - Series One (2000)
Viewers were left enthralled with the inaugural season, where the behaviour of housemate Nick Bateman was the most shocking.
The city broker won the nickname Nasty Nick after he attempted to cheat in the game and pass notes between contestants to sway nominations.
He was confronted by eventual winner Craig Phillips who gathered the house around the kitchen table to discuss Nick's notes.
'How can you be so two faced?' Craig asked him. 'I know it's true, you know it's true.'
The scheme backfired on Nick as he was ejected from the house on Day 35 for breaking the rules around nominations while Craig went on to win the show.
It sounds innocent now but the scandal featured on the front page of every single national newspaper except the Financial Times which put it on page three.
Fight Night - Series Five (2004)
Big Brother pushed boundaries with its novel concept and 24-hour live streaming however viewers thought it went too far during series five.
The series featured a host of shocking moments, yet none more so than Fight Night.
During series five Emma Greenwood and Michelle Bass re-entered the house after a false eviction landed them in 'The Bedsit', where they watched on as their housemates spoke about them.
Upon their return, the house became embroiled in a food fight.
As arguments escalated, winner Nadia Almada, from Ribeira Brava, Madeira, Portugal, slapped Jason Cowan.
After this Emma and Victor Ebuwa both threw trays at each other before they were separated when she screamed: 'I will f**king kill you'.
When the fight kicked off, BB placed guards at the camera runs and while the shocking activities escalated guards were sent into the house via the bedroom, where the were stationed while the stars slept.
As a consequence Emma was removed the next day and Victor was made to see a psychologist.
All housemates bar four were given warnings by Big Brother.
Makosi Hot Tub - Series Six (2005)
Winner Anthony Hutton and co-star Makosi Musambasi enjoyed a boozy night in the pool in which they appeared to engage in sexual activity.
While Anthony vowed they never had sex, 48 hours after the moment Makosi claimed she was pregnant with his child.
After leaving the house Makosi, who was a nurse, insisted that she believed she was pregnant, however crowds chanted 'liar' at her during the final.
Makosi came in third place in the sixth series of Big Brother but she encountered visa difficulties after she left the house as she was only allowed to live in the UK as long as she was working for the NHS.
She returned to England in 2010 to appear on Ultimate Big Brother before the show moved to Channel 5, being evicted by the public on day 11.
In 2012 she was reportedly deported to Nigeria and banned from Britain after attempting to enter the country using a relative's passport.
The wine bottle incident - Series Six (2005)
Things took an X-rated turn during Big Brother six thanks to eccentric housemate Kinga Karolczak.
Kinga entered the house late in the series and caused possibly one of the most shocking moments of the entire show.
The half Polish, half Kuwaiti market researcher from London left viewers aghast when she famously used a wine bottle as a tool for masturbation in the communal garden.
After getting drunk with housemates Anthony Hutton and Craig Coates, the buxom blonde told the guys that she planned to pleasure herself with the empty wine bottle.
In her exit interview with show host Davina McCall, Kinga insisted that the whole debacle was a joke and she was only pretending.
Nikki Graeme's 'Who Is She?' - Series Seven (2006)
Often regarded as one of the best series in the show's history, Big Brother 7 introduced the public to Nikki Grahame.
The Hertfordshire native became known for throwing tantrums over harmless situations such as having to get out of bed or not being able to make a pair of headphones work.
In her most memorable moment, Nikki stormed into the diary room and vented her frustration over new housemate Susie Verrico.
Nikki shouted at Big Brother: 'I'm feeling very venomous and angry. How dare she vote for me, she doesn't even know me. What have I f***ing done?... She's just marched in in her golden gown and just ousted me out, and it's not fair!
'Who is she? Who is she? Who is she? Where did you find her?' And reality TV history was made.
Nikki tragically passed away in 2021 after a battle with anorexia nervosa.
Pammy's Cameo - Series 12 (2011)
Both housemates and viewers were in awe when they walked into the house in 2011 to discover Pamela Anderson waiting for them.
As the 14 new housemates got acquainted with each other and their surroundings, the shutters opened, showing the contestants their garden.
But as they made their way to the doors, Baywatch star Pamela was sitting outside looking sensational in a figure-hugging red dress.
At first, the housemates were unsure what was going on until the penny dropped and someone shouted: 'Oh my god, it's Pamela Anderson!'
She remained in the house and set tasks for the housemates throughout.
Pamela made her first move into a Big Brother house in 2008 when she joined the Australian version of the show for a three-day visit.
Two years later she was on the Indian version of the show and in 2011, the UK version, with her popping up at the Bulgarian show in 2012 and the German one in 2013.
Sofa Foreplay - Series 17 (2016)
Housemate Laura Carter, who previously claimed to have bedded Justin Bieber, soared to prominence again in the summer following an on-screen romp with Marco Pierre White Jr.
The duo garnered a huge number of Ofcom complaints due to their overtly sexual behaviour, including Marco biting her nipple before they engaged in sex on the programme.
Viewers were disgusted when they engaged in foreplay on the sofa, with Laura seen lifting up her top as Marco Jnr sucked her bare breast.
The episode then closed with the duo between the sheets, writhing around, and appearing to take things to the next level.
Speaking about the rendezvous, Laura said: 'It wasn't full blown sex, but we had sex basically. Straight after it happened he said: "OH MY GOD! What's my family and my fiancée going to say?"

Chart topper Tyla confesses huge success of hit record Water left her feeling ‘trapped' as she releases hot new track

BECOMING an overnight sensation has proved to be a blessing and a curse for Tyla. The South African singer felt 'trapped' after her single Water reached No4 in the UK charts and was a global hit in 2023. While her self-titled debut album was a top 20 hit the following year. At an exclusive Q&A in London last week, she explained: 'For a while, especially last year, I felt so trapped. 'Like, 'Oh my word, I blew up and I just have to have everything right and everything has to be perfect now because the world is looking.' 'It was kind of stressful for me.' But on Friday she released her brilliantly fun and upbeat four-track EP WWP — which stands for We Wanna Party — and has finally given her the chance to 'experiment.' She said: 'I wasn't planning on doing this. I was just making music at the beginning of the year. It was mainly for an album. 'But as I got closer to summer, I was like, 'Hey the songs I was making were too good . . . where are the summer songs? 'We need some summer songs right now' and I am just too excited to hold on to them. 'I really just want people to hear it and party to it, and see how I've grown through the years and just see who I am now.' And it seems like she's more confident than ever, which isn't something she will apologise for. Tyla — who will perform at All Points East festival in London's Victoria Park next month — said: 'I just always knew I had something in me. 'I just always had that kind of peace knowing that this is the life I'm gonna live. 'I don't let anybody or anything limit me or put me in a box. I think I'm just confident. 'A lot of people say arrogant, but I think everyone needs a little bit of arrogance, especially to make it in this industry and to make people believe in your music. 'If you're not that proud and you don't believe in your stuff as strongly as you should, why would someone else?' SIR MICK JAGGER turned 82 on Saturday and his long-term girlfriend Mel Hamrick celebrated by sharing this adorable photo of him with their son. In the snap posted on Instagram, The Rolling Stones rocker was seen grinning and wearing matching bunny ears with his youngest kid, Deveraux. 9 While the eight-year-old lad is most definitely the cutest, Mick was no doubt spoilt by all eight of his children on his big day. In the past, Mick's admitted fatherhood can be a bit of a handful. He said: 'You get a bit out of practice – it's not like riding a bike. The more children you have, the more laissez-faire you get about them, to be honest. 'It's fun to have children, at any age. But if you're working, and always away, you don't get to enjoy it as much.' It looks like he found time for a hoppy birthday, at least. ROBBIE'S LOTTERY WINNER THE LOTTERY WINNERS have been flying high thanks to Robbie Williams, inviting them to be the support act on his Brit Pop tour. Lead singer Thomas Rylance revealed how the friendship flourished. Speaking at the Together Again Festival at Bolesworth Castle, Cheshire, he said: 'Robbie reached out because he'd heard a few of our songs and read some interviews and he wanted to be friends. We spent months chatting on FaceTime. And then one day he asked if we fancied coming on tour. 'It's been stadiums every night. And to watch Rob do those shows, he's just magic. 'He's just as lovely off stage as he is on stage. He's just such an inspiring man to be around. I think he's my soul mate.' Despite his late night headliner slot, Olly Murs won the prize for the weirdest rider request of the weekend – asking for boxes of Coco Pops and Cornflakes. IT'S little wonder Jennifer Lopez has such a huge smile on her face. She performed to more than 70,000 fans in Poland, this weekend and looked proud as punch as she headed out with friends afterwards. 9 9 9 Jen, who looked chic in this nude coloured blazer dress, has been riding high on the success of her shows which have seen her take repeated swipes at her ex Ben Affleck. Last week, insiders told Bizarre's Howell that J-Lo had a whole new album ready to go, with Jen saying on stage she had 'scorned woman energy.' With songs like Up All Night and Wreckage Of You taking pops at Ben, I think he should be running for cover when that album drops. RED CARPET RAIN A PAIN FOR EDITH AS a regular host of glitzy film premieres, Edith Bowman knows all about the ups and downs of a red carpet. But her very worst experience was at one of the biggest events in the showbiz calendar – the Bafta Film awards. 9 In an exclusive chat, Edith said: 'I was eight months pregnant and it was really wet. 'My dress was like a sponge. And so it had literally come up past my knees. 'My dress was kind of waterlogged. And I've got this massive, child-bearing belly in front of me. And so that was probably not the best look and not fun.' But she said one of her highlights in recent years was interviewing Joaquin Phoenix at the 2023 premiere of his film Napoleon – because he did so by accident. Edith recalled: 'We were told beforehand, 'He's not doing anything'. And then he came up not realising what he was coming into. So I was like, 'Nice to see you'. 'I was like, 'You were late the last time we chatted'. And he's like, 'What?'. 'I did a thing for Joker and he went to the loo and then he got lost, and then he came in late. 'So we just got into this really funny conversation, him going, 'I wasn't late, I'm never late!' kind of thing. 'And then he realised his voice was coming out of the speakers. And he was like, 'What am I doing here?'' lIT wasn't just Tom Cruise who headed to Wembley Stadium to catch Oasis in action. My pals spotted Dua Lipa in a VIP box with her fiance Callum Turner. 'Dua and Callum were going absolutely wild when Noel and Liam Gallagher came on,' my mate said. 'They were hanging out with Noel's daughter Anais. 'Jarvis Cocker was there too and looked like he was loving it.' BEYONCE took her fans back to where it all started on the final night of her Cowboy Carter world tour after reuniting with her Destiny's Child bandmates on stage. She bought out Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams for a medley of some of their best loved hits, including Bootylicious and Lose My Breath. 9 9 Kelly and Michelle even put on matching chaps when they got up on stage at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The duo also helped Bey with her 'mute challenge' much to the delight of the packed out crowd. Although Bey's 32-show tour may be over, the hard work isn't stopping here. She's now hard at work on her next album, which is understood to be called Betty Black, and has its roots in rock. The record's title is, we understand a bit to reclaim Ram Jam's 1977 song of the same name - which has been controversial in recent years due to its connection to a whip used on enslaved people in prisons. WEDDING bells can't be far away because Becky Hill spent the weekend in glamorous Lake Como on her hen do. The two-time Brit Award winner flew her nearest and dearest gal pals over to Italy for the celebration, which came off the back of a gig she played there on Friday night. It came a week after her fiance Charlie Gardner flew off on his stag do, which was attended by his close pal Gareth Gates. I'm told Gareth is a surprisingly close mate of Becky and her fella and will definitely be there when they tie the knot later this summer. Between touring and working on her next album, it's a wonder she's had time to plan a thing. The week in bizness WEDNESDAY: Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Billie Piper will be among the stars at the premiere of the second series of Netflix hit Wednesday in London. Kelsey Parker breaks social media silence to share family photo as she heads off on holiday a month after tragically losing her third child

Kelsey Parker has taken a much-needed family holiday one month after tragically losing her third child. Tom Parker 's widow sadly suffered heartbreak in June after her unborn baby - Kelsey's first with boyfriend Will Lindsay - was 'born sleeping.' The last month has been incredibly tough for the family-of-four after the devastating news, with Kelsey sharing that they have taken some needed time out. Taking to Instagram on Sunday, she shared a family photo as she, Will and her two children with Tom - Aurelia, six, and Bodhi, four - looked out to sea in a hot location. Kelsey didn't confirm where they were, but she shouted out budget-friendly airline Jet2 for making the process so easy. The doting mum simply wrote: 'Exactly what we needed. Thank you @jet2 for making it so easy. X' In the comments section, she was showered with love by other stars, including Brooke Vincent and Gogglebox's Lisa Baggs. Last month, Kelsey took to Instagram to share her heartbreaking news. She confirmed the loss of her unborn third child, a son she had planned to name Phoenix, one week before his planned due date. Breaking the news in a poem, she wrote: 'The world grew quiet as you arrived, So loved, so longed for, yet not alive. Our precious boy, our angel light, Born with wings, took silent flight'. 'We named you Phoenix, brave and bright. A soul of love, of warmth and light Though we never heard you cry, You'll live in hearts that won't ask why. 'No breath you drew, no eyes to see, Still, you mean everything to me. You'll journey with us, softly near, in every sigh, in every tear. Taking to her Instagram stories: she added: 'Before I receive an influx of lovely messages and heartfelt wishes, I wanted to just say that I truly appreciate everything you are all going to say and share. 'But with the news being so raw, I would really like to ensure that we as a family are given space and time to process this devastating and earth-shattering news. 'I love you all and thank you for your understanding and space. Love always, Kelsey, Will, and the Parker Family'. Kelsey was left devastated after husband Tom lost his battle with brain cancer, but found love again last year, meeting Kent tree surgeon Will on a night out and announced their romance in September. The podcaster later admitted to being targeted by online trolls for moving on with her new partner. Speaking on ITV's Lorraine, in their first joint interview together in March, she explained: 'It's been three years, this is Tom's three year anniversary of his death and it's almost like people want me to feel guilty for moving on.' She added: 'I'm always going to have guilt but what's so hard is that Tom's not here anymore so what do people want me to do?', 'Our house was full of so much sadness but now it's full of happiness, the kids deserve that more than anything. 'They've been through so much, I feel like we are taking the steps forward to heal but I just want other women to feel like it's OK to move on, it's not taking anything away from the love I had for Tom.'
