National Lottery website is down for 'once-in-a-generation' updates

The National Lottery website is down for around 36 hours for maintenance, and users are unable to buy tickets or claim prizes. Users have reported that they can't get into the site, but it's not an outage - but a planned closure to update the site. All draw game sales and prize claims have been paused in shops across the UK from 11pm on Saturday night following the Lotto and Thunderball draws until 'late Monday morning', operator Allwyn has said. The National Lottery website and app are down over the same period. Why is the National Lottery down? The company say the 36 hour (or so) closure is so that the biggest technology upgrade in the game's 31-year history can take place. This means customers are not able to log into their online accounts, buy draw tickets or claim prizes in-store or online until later today, Monday, August 4. During the pause, Allwyn will transfer and upgrade the National Lottery's gaming and retail systems to new platforms. They should be online again later today too, although the owners have warned that a 'small proportion' of in-store terminals could experience delays coming back up if certain upgrade processes are interrupted for various reasons. The Czech-based Allwyn group which took over the 10-year licence to run the lottery from Camelot in February last year said the systems and in-store terminals powering The National Lottery dated back to 2009, 'before iPads, Uber and Instagram', which now needed to be modernised to deliver on 'ambitious' plans for a National Lottery 'fit for the future'. Allwyn chief executive Andria Vidler said: 'This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver The National Lottery that the UK deserves."

Liverpool ready to agree three more transfer deals

Liverpool are reportedly ready to agree three more deals before the transfer window shuts close. It's already been a frantically busy summer for Richard Hughes. The club's sporting director has been very active when it comes to reinforcing Liverpool's squad. With Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong already secured, Hughes is now working on moves to bring in a centre-back and try to lure Alexander Isak away from Newcastle. Those two additions would make this an incredible window for Liverpool. However, it's not the only two transfers Hughes is focused on. He still has some important decisions to make when it comes to potential departures. There's the notable players like Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa, Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton. But they aren't the only ones. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range The Liverpool ECHO has written about three further deals the Reds are ready to agree including one permanent and two potential loan moves for their exciting wonderkid trio. The first of these surrounds the future of Luca Stephenson who is the subject of an approach from Aberdeen. According to the report the Scottish side are keen to sign him on a permanent deal from Liverpool. At this moment in time, there has been no answer from Liverpool whether they would be willing to allow him to leave permanently. It's also important to note that according to the report, Swansea City, Cardiff City, Rotherham and Reading are also believed to be interested in Stephenson. He is not the only one in high demand. The report claims the second player under consideration by Liverpool is James McConnell. West Bromwich Albion, Ipswich Town, Derby County, Oxford United and Swansea have all enquired about the player's availability according to the report. Meanwhile, French side Metz are also believed to be admirers of him. And last but not least Liverpool are also considering a deal for Lewis Koumas. The exciting winger caught the eye at Stoke City last season and has experience playing for Jurgen Klopp in the first team. Now the ECHO claims that a host of Championship clubs have expressed an interest in the young Welsh star. These include Norwich City, Sheffield United, Hull City, Preston North End, Oxford, Birmingham City and Wrexham. Meanwhile, most interestingly, the report claims Spanish side Sevilla are also considering a move for Koumas, which could be a great move. All in all, it's quite clear that Hughes' focus won't just be on incomings. These three deals the Reds are ready to agree are also going to be on his mind. It's essential he makes the right choice in these situations, too. The likes of Quansah and Morton are examples that the Reds can make a lot of profit from selling on some of their academy stars at the right time.

Motive Launches in the UK to Power Safer, Smarter, More Sustainable Fleet Operations with AI

Industry's most accurate AI platform arrives, backed by London office and regional leadership LONDON, August 04, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Motive, the AI-powered Integrated Operations Platform for the physical economy, today announced its launch in the United Kingdom. With the opening of a new London office and the appointment of regional vice president, Nyanya Joof, Motive will bring its AI-powered solutions for Driver Safety, Fleet Management, and Workforce Management to businesses in the UK with complex physical operations. The company's expansion builds on its strong North American adoption and supports fleets across industries such as transportation, construction, field services, energy, utilities, and the food and beverage sector. "Motive's mission is to empower the people who run physical operations with tools to make their work safer and more productive," said Shoaib Makani, CEO and Co-founder of Motive. "We're excited to bring that mission to the UK at a time when AI can make a meaningful difference—helping businesses reduce road collisions, lower costs, automate manual work, and accelerate the transition to more sustainable operations. Our platform is already delivering measurable results around the world, and we look forward to unlocking that same value for businesses in the UK." Businesses with fleets in the UK face growing challenges, including a projected shortage of 200,000 Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) drivers over the next five years; rising fuel, insurance, and maintenance costs; and heightened road casualties following nearly 130,000 incidents in 2024 alone. At the same time, businesses are under pressure to improve sustainability and transition to electric vehicles (EVs), while managing outdated, siloed systems that limit operational visibility and agility. To help address these difficulties, Joof will lead Motive's regional strategy, hiring, and go-to-market (GTM) execution. With over 15 years of experience scaling GTM teams across Europe, including leadership roles at WeWork, she will oversee how Motive supports UK customers with tools designed to address their most urgent safety, workforce, and cost-related challenges. Motive's AI-powered platform helps businesses in the UK: Protect workers, improve safety, and boost morale: Motive's Driver Safety solution, including its use of precise AI accuracy, detects risky behaviours, such as mobile phone use and stop sign violations, to help prevent accidents before they happen. Businesses can exonerate drivers, reinforce safety standards through real-time coaching, and recognise safe driving, ultimately improving retention and morale. Optimize spend: Motive's Fleet Management solution helps businesses reduce insurance premiums by an average of 21%, lower maintenance spend, and improve fuel efficiency. Its AI-driven visibility into vehicle health, routing, and utilisation supports faster decision-making and more efficient operations—delivering measurable savings. Save time and increase productivity: Motive's Workforce Management solution automates manual tasks such as scheduling, time tracking, payroll, training, and documentation, reducing administrative overhead and freeing teams to focus on higher-value work. The Motive Driver App also simplifies roadside inspections and compliance documentation, removing the need for paper-based systems. Navigate the green transition: Motive helps businesses adapt to rising regulatory and sustainability demands, such as the UK's 2030 Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate by managing the shift to EVs with tools tailored for mixed-fleet environments. Its EV forecasting software, fuel-efficient routing, and digitised workflows enable teams to plan vehicle charging, optimise routes, and reduce downtime. EVs can cost up to 25% more to repair and take 14% longer to service than petrol vehicles, making Motive's predictive maintenance and AI-powered safety capabilities critical for reducing electrification costs and maintaining fleet readiness. These capabilities are further strengthened by Motive's recent acquisition of InceptEV, an advanced battery intelligence software startup. "Motive's AI-powered platform is transforming how we manage fleet safety across parts of our U.S. operations—giving us the opportunity to prevent collisions, protect drivers, and respond faster with near real-time insights," said Zach Spengler, Director of EHS at ABM Aviation. "There's clear potential for businesses in the UK and beyond to benefit from the technology to enhance safety, streamline maintenance, and improve fuel efficiency at scale."
