Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from 2026 defensive back Niko Jandreau
The Oklahoma Sooners picked up their first commitment on the defensive side of the ball in the 2026 recruiting class, earning a pledge from three-star safety Niko Jandreau. Jandreau, out of Chandler, Arizona, picked the Oklahoma Sooners over offers from Washington, Missouri, Iowa State, USC, and Arizona State.
In an interview with Parker Thune of OUInsider and Rivals, Jandreau said, "Out of all the places I went, there wasn't a place like OU.'
Though just a three-star prospect, it's easy to see what the Sooners love about Jandreau's game. He's a force in the secondary. He attacks ball carriers and arrives with force. He has great knockback and doesn't allow the ball carrier to get away from him. Jandreau does a great job reacting to what he sees and playing fast to the football. He's adept at playing along the line of scrimmage but is really good in coverage as well. He has the quickness and agility to mirror receivers out of the slot and can play single-high safety. Jandreau's a versatile piece for Brent Venables' defense that could be deployed at safety or cheetah.
Jandreau is the first commitment for the Oklahoma Sooners since four-star wide receiver Daniel Odom pledged to OU back in January. It's another strong win for Brandon Hall on the recruiting trail, who has made Oklahoma's safety room into arguably the deepest position on the team. When the team adds Jandreau in the 2026 recruiting class, they'll get another fast and physical safety.

Brewers place flamethrowing rookie Jacob Misiorowski on the injured list
WASHINGTON — Three days, three injuries for the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers placed right-hander Jacob Misiorowski on the 15-day injured list with a left tibia contusion ahead of their Aug. 3 game at Nationals Park. Commanders coach Dan Quinn singles out one rookie's performance
Dan Quinn is not going to simply give any player a starting spot. Quinn last season shocked everyone, insisting that No. 2 overall pick, Jayden Daniels, go through drills and reps rotating with Marcus Mariota. The announcement of Daniels as the starting quarterback was not made until the completion of training camp, as Quinn publicly proclaimed Daniels his starter on August 19, 2024. That won't be the case this year. On Saturday, Quinn, who met with the press, made it clear that there is competition in this camp. There are several starting positions up for grabs and players competing for those jobs. "We just want to make competition the central theme, like quarterback last year with Jayden and Marcus (Mariota) and at tackle with Brandon (Coleman) and Luke (Cornelius Lucas), and we're doing it again now with Andrew (Wylie) and Josh (Conerly). It's part of who we are." For example, in 2025, who replaces DE Dante Fowler, S Jeremy Chinn, and Jonathan Allen? Who is the third corner? Who is the starting running back? Who starts until G Sam Cosmi is fully ready to return? "I never wanted a player to feel anything other than that. If you get this gig, you had to earn it and you had to fight for it. And that's the world of a competitor. It's designed some by day, some by period. It takes a while to get there. You have to go through some more evaluations, but it's important." Quinn likes what he sees overall in his rookie class. "It's a good class, JP. They have maturity; their work ethic is strong. I had told the coaches I was impressed by the amount of work they did in the spring rookie camp, getting the guys ready. It doesn't show itself at minicamp. They're still swimming, there's still too much information. But it does show now. It does show now when they are able to compete and fully express who they are." The head coach then singled out WR Jaylin Lane, "I've been impressed by Lane. There's a number of guys who have jumped out to me so far. As we are getting into preseason games, it's really cool to see them really stand and fight for it. They have put themselves in a good position to do that." Terry McLaurin didn't appear unhappy when greeting Commanders' leadership
For the first time in his six seasons (this will be his seventh), Terry McLaurin is at odds with the Washington Commanders. It's unusual because McLaurin is the consummate pro, the good guy, outstanding leader and terrific player. However, that's what happens when money is involved. McLaurin feels as if he should be one of the NFL's highest-paid receivers, likely seeing the deal DK Metcalf signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, with an average annual value of $33 million. McLaurin sees that deal and, like everyone else, realizes he's been the better player. On the other hand, Washington sees a player who will soon turn 30 (September) and likely views him at around $26 million, similar to the deal that Mike Evans signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Evans is a future Hall of Famer, but is about to enter his 12th NFL season. Who is right? Only time will tell, but both have strong cases. In actuality, no one really knows who is asking for what, yet the two sides remain far apart, with McLaurin requesting a trade on Thursday. On Saturday, McLaurin again came onto the practice field, signing autographs for fans, but he was also seen greeting someone familiar.
